So a few days ago, I was being upset about the no Halo 4 campaign Theater rumor. I hadn’t spent much time with Reach’s Theater and I wanted to reexamine whether or not campaign Theater was really worth keeping. Also, I wanted to to take out my frustration on the AI, since I hated them (not anymore!).
After a hour and three minutes of recklessly ambushing four Ultra Elites on Heroic and repeatedly getting pwned, I decided to play a little smarter. Little did I know I’d end up with probably my best Elite takedown ever, not to mention the fastest one, at 35 seconds! My previous takedown was 52 seconds, using Hologram.
In previous battles, I would exploit their line of sight (clip shooting), their stationary reactions, and their reckless abandon, not to mention their incessant firing. I’d also move scenery objects around to disrupt their movement, making them easier target. Oh and I leaned on crutches (plasma pistol, needle rifle, hologram, armor lock), taking advantage of the fact that the AI just happen to know my position most of the time. Basically, it was just me cheating because they were cheating. But that’s not very interesting to watch nor is it monumental.
But in this takedown, I barely had a clip of DMR ammo, a Needler as secondary (which we all know is ineffective against Elite shielding), 2 of each grenades, and my sweet new Military Police helmet.
Not to mention Jorge was blocked off from the battle with a dozen of supply cases. The odds were heavily stacked against me (while I did have Hologram, I did not have any intention of using it, and with no Sprint, I was hopelessly cumbersome).
I had to take down the dual wielder first, but that deprived me of 2 stickies. Then I wasted my frags. You’d think I was doomed right? Nope. The Elite fell into my trap then I stealthily made my way to the other Elites. My cover was blown, but I had a little dance with them and emerged unscathed.
P.s. I’ll do it on Legendary someday.
TLDR: I was upset about an aspect of Halo 4 allegedly absent so I loaded up Reach to exact my wrath in game form and after a long time of pleasure seeking, I realized my greatest moment that has delivered me from a cycle of hatred and grieving (over CE AI). I now look at Reach in a better light and hopefully will do the same with Halo 4…
