For me the maps in Halo Reach were the biggest disappointment. They were all in campaign (same with firefight).
In all the previous halo games almost (if not all) of the maps were completely unrelated to the campaign or only related by type (eg high ground was a base, crows nest was a base…).
For me that adds a lot more fun to the multiplayer. No one wants to play the same maps throughout Multiplayer, Campaign and Firefight. In halo 3 there was that sense of wonder when you tried to work out all the little things about the map and its history, for example; hmmm… I wonder what epitaph was, lets try to read this forerunner writing. etc etc.
I agree. I like how the maps were LOOSELY based on the campaign Halo 3. How Valhalla and Isolation were loosely based on the level “The covenant”, How Rat’s nest was loosely based on “Crow’s nest”. The Defiant map pack is a step in the right direction. Instead of exact remakes, maps are loosely based on the campaign.
There are a lot of players that don’t care for some of the original maps, but a lot of them have really grown on me. A lot of people seem to think that they were just torn out of campaign, but it’s actually the opposite. I remember reading/hearing on several occasions from Bungie and MS that they were designed with multiplayer in mind first and then utilized into campaign. That being said some the recent maps are very good. Tempest is my favorite map in the game right now. My favorited shipping maps at this point are Powerhouse, Zealet, and Countdown. I certainly can’t wait for Defiant to drop next week.
Yeah Reach’s maps were the biggest let down for me to… It’s not really that they are bad entirely but that they don’t have much replay value. I can’t really comment on the Noble maps because I don’t have them. Defiant looks good and so did Noble. I might get them at the same time!?
Halo 3 had some pretty maps to. Halo 1 and Halo 2 had the best maps and it just went downhill from their. Reach’s maps are really bad. Noble map pack was OK but really I never get to play on Tempest I always get Anchor 9. I don’t play Invasion so I basically got 2 new maps but It feels like I only got 1 map from Noble map pack. Defiant only has 2 multiplayer maps. I think I might wait til another pack is released and buy the defiant and the next pack at once so it feels like I’m actually getting something.
It’s pretty maps too. Also the two Defiant maps look better than the two Noble maps. And you can either get an Invasion or Firefight map. Either way it’s still on your hard drive and can forge em’ and play locally.
I’m not a fan at all of Reach’s Multiplayer Maps. When I get on and play Reach Multiplayer there isnt 1 shipping map that I cant wait to play, or even for that matter just “play”. To me it seems that every Halo game that came out the Multiplayer maps got worse and worse. Sure you can label it nostalgia but, H1 had great maps I dont think there was even 1 that I hated. H2 still had great maps but less of them. H3 def some good maps but def some bad maps. And H:R… when I go in to play MM its more of which map do I wanna play least and vote opposite of that. I think that they are just some bad maps and of course the 2 good maps they made are $10 DLC which def should have come shipped instead of counting the remakes in forge as “new maps”. It was hard to justify 1/6 the game on maps that they were already working on during Reach’s production.
I do have to say I was very judgmental and skeptical of 343I at first. I didnt think anyone should be taking the “beautiful baby that is Halo” away from their “Father” Bungie but it is indeed for some new people to contribute to this awesome universe. I felt it was a shaky start with Halo Legends and some of the cannon issues with the reprint of the first 3 books but this new map pack. HS! this stuff looks great and though I still feel that they should have kept the DLC different for Multi Maps and Firefight maps, I gotta say they look awesome and am very excited about it. I just hate that I now have to spend $10 on 2 maps now since I never play Firefight. 5 bucks a map is damn expensive in this economy so please keep that in mind if your going to do some more DLC, keep Multiplayer Maps and Firefight Maps seperate, simply cause not everyone plays both.
So suffice to say I’m pretty friggin stoked for what 343i is going to do for Halo.
You’re missing out if you don’t play Firefight very much. That’s one of the best modes in Reach, I think.
It’s sad that the best maps that were shipped with Reach were made in forge.
Halo 3 was shipped with so many good maps, and then the DLC was amazing. I believe that the defiant map pack is a step in the right direction. I would still like to see more symmetrical type maps, or just even maps that promote high competition.
I’m happy that if you haven’t played the campaign, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a DLC map or a release Map due to quality differences in layout and artistic expression.
Unlike Halo2 or 3 where release maps are much duller and less filled than DLC maps.
> You’re missing out if you don’t play Firefight very much. That’s one of the best modes in Reach, I think.
I think is good just doesnt hold my attention long, especially when its filled with so much lag. Every match I play in has way too much lag. When I do play it I’ll grab a buddy, we’ll plug in a controller each and go in with the 2 of us +2 guests and its fine. But when randoms play I cant get a decent connection I dont think I’ve ever had a lag free firefight match on MM. I would def like it more and play more if there were a lot less lag.
$10 to me is FINE for three maps! $15 pushing it but I’d still pay it!! Can’t wait to get the maps!!
