Okay … so I found something kinda cool: You know the symbol for the mantle (the “Eld” I believe it’s called) that shows up on the Halo 3 terminals and in 4? The round thing Chief has Cortana read to him and also shows up on the Ivanoff Station? Well, I was playing Anniversary–The Silent Cartographer–and just before you enter the structure with the two hunters inside and that pelican crashes afterwards … got that? lol … well, right when you enter, there are two symetrical circular designs on either end of the structure’s “foyer”, if you will, and if you switch to classic mode, you’ll see it was originally the symbol for the mantle (only upside down). I guess what I’m wondering is, why did 343 put a different design over it? The mantle plays heavily in 4 and it would be neat to have a connection to it in the Halo game that was released the previous year by the same developer to help give a sense of continuity. I mean, I was suprised it was there in Combat Evolved originally. Now, I haven’t read the books, so I’m sure I’m partially blind to a lot of the back story, but I found it interesting.
Maybe someone can fill me in on what I’m missing or why it was covered up (or overlooked?).
The symbol is also randomly on the ghosts of onyx cover if I recall.
I think Anniversary was largely licensed out to another company to do, they probably didn’t know the significance of the logo, and 343 might not have noticed it either.
The symbol didn’t really get traction amongst the user base till h3 and Onyx, so its fairly easy to overlook in h1.
