The Mantis needs to be removed for Halo 5, or it needs to be drastically altered.
This vehicle legitimately has ruined several maps in Halo 4, such as Ragnarok and Meltdown. It has incredibly powerful weaponry and a defensive melee ability but poor mobility, which is conducive to a defensive, “campy” vehicle. With an enemy Mantis present, it becomes excessively difficult to move around Ragnarok and Meltdown, at the Laser spawn and bridge respectively. It is simply too powerful of a vehicle that is forced into a defensive role that hampers map movement and the flow of the game.
For this reason it should be removed or altered.
Seems ok to me. They get taken down all the time.
Replace Rockets with a lazer get rid of the stomp, allow boarding from the sides+back and lower turn speed.
While I completely agree that the Mantis is one of the few vehicles capable of negatively effecting map-flow, I don’t think that removing it entirely is necessary.
I’m more upset with most other vehicular offerings in Halo 4.
But of course, vehicles should constantly be improved upon or tweaked.
The Mantis is a too-versatile jack-of-all-trades vehicle (anti-air, anti-infantry, anti-hog, etc) with exceptional mobility. Giving it more of a niche capacity would be wise.
I’d prefer if they reduce the missile load.
I think it would just take too much to rebalance the Mantis with the rest of the game. If they’re going to have a mech, they should rebuild it from the ground up and call it something else. Kind of like how Halo 3 had the Hornet, but Halo: Reach had the Falcon.

My first guess would be an armed cyclop
I completely agree. They need to make some serious changes to the Mantis. It would probably be fine if they took away its shields, maybe just give it one gun, change up the movement… but with these changes it’s really not even the same vehicle.

Pretty much this. They might as well just remove the Mantis and replace it with something else.
The mantis was pretty cool at first but after playing multiple matches in it, it got pretty dull quickly to me at least. I wouldn’t be upset if it was removed.
I hate the mantis so i am ok if it gets removed.
You guys are crazy because the Mantis is fine the way it is. It’s fun to use and not all that difficult to bring down. It’s incredibly balanced.
The mantis is easy to shut down if you work as a team and play smart. Try to get to its blind spot while your teammates EMP it. I do think it needs one or two less rockets.
As someone said earlier, the Mantis is simply too versatile of a vehicle. I can’t tell if it’s primarily anti-vehicle, anti-air, or anti-infantry. It essentially fills all of the niches of the other core Halo vehicles simultaneously.
Perhaps the missiles could be replaced by a mortar-like weapon operated by either the driver or a secondary gunner. Splitting its weaponry among multiple players could help, such as giving the chain gun and melee to the driver, and the missiles/mortars to the driver as previously mentioned.
The pilot could also have to temporarily disable weapons in order to recharge the Mantis’ shields. However, all of these changes are somewhat drastic and would warrant a scrapping of the current Mantis in favor of a more balanced replacement.

Or it fills one niche. A support niche. It’s fine the way it is.
it depends on the team you are with. They are easy to take down with a few guys working at doing that. However when my entire team simply runs towards the mantis in uncoordinated assaults with assault rifles, one after the other in an endless stream of deaths it’s frustrating. I have a loadout with cammo, plasma pistol and stickies to deal with this. But when the opposing team has both mantis’s and my team is full of idiots I just quit.

Ah the “vermin” as I’ve started calling them, a la Prophet of Truth in Halo 3. I’ve gone 60 and 2 on Ragnarok in a Mantis thanks to such tactics on the enemy team (though my team never stole the other team’s Mantis).

A weapon that has the capability of destroying anything that takes it on (bar a tank) is not a support weapon. It has incredible offensive and defensive power and simply obstructs the former balance of the core Halo vehicles.

Yea but then it wouldn’t last long at all in almost every map.
Yes, it is a ‘campy’ vehicle, but isn’t that the same for most power-vehicles?
