The Mantis in CTF Ragnarok

I really cannot stand the presence of the mantis in 5v5 CTF on Ragnarok, especially since the removal of the banshees. It’s far too easy for teams to hold the map with their mantis and takes far too long for the opposition to kill them. I don’t have a problem with the vehicle in general, but when there’s virtually no way to take them down they ruin games.

CTF on Ragnarok is over within the first minute: whoever controls the lazer and wins the first mantis duel wins the game. The remainder is then an excercise in frustration for those on foot.

End rant.

Spartan laser! will solve your problem. or team shot it. The secret is not to shot it one persona at a time but to team shot it. Once person in mantis shields are gone, if you have 3 people shooting it it will be destroyed in seconds. FYI banshee seriously gone from CTF? lol there was nothing wrong with it. This is coming from a person who doesn’t like playing with vehicles! LOL

I think I’d rather have the banshee than the mantis, it would make for some interesting gameplay over what the mantis brings to the table.

But that’s just my opinion.

How about you just fight it with the other mantis? Or just sneak around or behind it to get past it or destroy it. The mantis is tough, but I don’t think its all that hard to take down. I took one out with a DMR.

i agree totally, the mantis is such a noob instrument i actually saw one of my teammates betray another just because he got to the mantis first…CTF is my favourite gametype in Halo and now whenever i see Ragnarok in the voting i just vote for something else just coz with the presence of the mantis, the game is so boring, unbalanced, and there’s no REAL competition.

Plasma pistol, that is all.

Yeah i’d prefer the banshee over mantis. Mantis is 5v5 is just a bad idea.

Well said. Though, speaking of the Spartan Laser, I would prefer this weapon to be dropped more often in CTF on Ragnarok to co-inside with the respawn time of the Mantis.

mega yeti has it right…all you need is the plasma pistol. kill that thing almost everytime, along with all the other vehicles…plasma pistol and stickies…if the mantis is in perfect condition…plasma pistol…sprint up to it…freeze him again…and jump on that crap and beat it down. you can also use ur other options people mentioned such as other vehicles or spartan laser

> Plasma pistol, that is all.

I honestly feel that the Mantis actually belongs in the 5v5 CTF for Ragnarok. If used properly, it allows a team to defend well enough to prevent quick starting flag captures as well as lone people driving a vehicle into the base and then jump jetting out with the flag.

The quick grabs have become especially easy with the introduction of the instant flag pick up.

SiLVi I Be and MegaYeti both offer the best solutions to dealing with it, and it prevents teams from taking the mantis up to the middle and dominating it.

The banshee would be a bit unbalanced with the sole reason being it can get from one side of the map the other way to quickly and easily for it to be a feasible part of CTF. If a team has stolen your flag and is pretty much at their capture point, you could still hop into a banshee and make it there before the score and banshee bomb everything in sight.

You could always just use a distraction in order to jet pack to it and then board the Mantis.

Start by taking the laser from the hill via Mongoose, bring the Mantis up from the rear and escort it with the 'Hog.
Concentrate on the vehicles on anti-vehicular warfare themselves. Concentrate the infantry on the infantry.
Use the Laser via the 'Goose to assist the in taking down the vehicles assaulting yours.
Have the sniper concentrate on taking out their sniper and Mantis jackers only until the enemy Mantis is taken down.
Dominate the middle with the 'Hog helping the Mantis, remember they’re better for short-mid range than long range, concentrate on holding the fort.
Send in infantry to retrieve the flag, do not just hold the middle. Give cover fire when needed to the infantry from the vehicles. A single bullet can be what helps your teammate win an seemingly 1vs1 encounter.
This usually only works with a team willing to adapt when needed.

No vehicle larger than a warthog belongs in a 5v5 playlist. Especially a walking tank with machine gun, rockets, and a stomp attack, and can only be boarded from behind. The mantis needs to stay in BTB.

Try all this with a team of randoms, see how well that works out for ya.

The Mantis sucks from long range, the main problem is when they take cover and camp behind the base, essentially forcing you into it’s comfort zone…

It’d be great if weapons actually spawned on the map more than twice. Then you could get some rockets, or laser, or even a plasma pistol!

You know… stuff to help take down a mantis! But no, why would anybody want weapons to help take out big stuff?

Sick of people -Yoinking!- about this. You have the option to create load outs, you have the option to equip a plasma pistol. Use it! Also yes there is a spartan laser to use to destroy the thing on seconds. If anything the mantis is too weak!

I don’t get the idea of 5v5 on Ragnarok in the first place.
