The Mangler's reticule make no sense

As the title suggests, I feel that the Mangler’s Reticule make no sense. It is a single shot gun with an arcing projectile, so why is the Reticule so wide?

The bolt isn’t even as large as the “wings” of the Reticule, and there is no projectile arc indicator either.

Here’s what the Mangler’s Reticule should look like instead:
