Its assume that balance is only a two way Street of “the right way” and “the wrong way”
And not a vertical slice of other balance issues the contribute too the problem.
Which is frankly a remarkably dumb way of thinking about balance.
The Mangler was a fine weapon, it was one of the few non-hit scan weapons that was fun to use.
They could have nerfed its ammo capacity, they could have reduced its effective range, they could have tweaked the magnetism, to make it more challenging to use at close range, they could have adjusted its relevance on the maps its spawns on.
Instead they went with the laziest type of nerf by adjusting its flat numbers.
Now that its been nerfed it doesn’t stand a chance against any of the other 1Tap 1 Slap weapons,
And is a Guaranteed death against melee weapons.
They didn’t identify anything,
they took the opinions of a small minority of people, that “it was op”.
And didn’t listen to a single word past that.
Instead of… I don’t know.
Removing it from maps where it dominates,
they chose to make it basically inferior to all other weapons in the game short of the Disruptor Pistol and Commando.
Instead of balancing it around the vertical slice, they just neutered it to the point of being unviable.
Youre kidding me right? The whole matchmaking system is predicated upon MMR. This is game is made specifically with pro players in mind. Thats evidenced even more by the fact that 343 has publicly acknowledged what the broader community has asked for and denied it point blank, while they basically cater to any and all of the whims of the pro scene.
The community has to beg and plead for the things they want to come to the game while 343 either ignores them or outright denies them. Meanwhile, they are happy to make every single aspect of this game as competitive as possible. Tell me that social games still exist, and I’ll tell you that you’re not playing Halo Inifinite. Because social games dont exist.
Even in casual play the Mangler needed to be nerfed simply because of the respawn time. Insanely fast.
I’m so tired of Mangler fests where you just get instakilled by one of 3 or even 4 manglers roaming around on the map.
Could they have fixed it in a better way? Probably. But it definitely needed to be nerfed, and they have other priorities so they did it as cheaply as possible for now.
I have no issue with their move on this (controlled for other priorities)
Yeah because they way it was working was never intended lmao.
LMAO YOU’RE SERIOUS. So, what, a ten percent nerf to its MELEE DAMAGE ONLY makes it worthless? You obviously have no idea how it’s used. Two shots + BR Burst, it beats out a lot of other TTKs in competitive.
You have NO IDEA how to actually use it. They just removed a part that frankly, was making it work STRICTLY better than the shotgun and as a Tier 1 weapon, outperforming Tier 2!
Man these forums are a joke when it comes to balance discussion, y’all don’t know anything.
The top 5 civs for the “pro” community (higher ranked players, pros in that game tend to be 2000+) are quite different from the top 5 civs for the rest of the community (average players (casuals) in said RTS are below 900-1100)
For example.
Mayans
#1=Pros
#13=Average
Franks
#2=Pros
#1=Average
Malians
#3=Pros
#19=Average
Burgundians
#4=Pros
#21=Average
Huns
#5=Pros
#10=Average
Franks
#2=Pros
#1=Average
Bulgarians
#29=Pros
#2=Average
Vikings
#11=Pros
#3=Average
Magyars
#25=Pros
#4=Average
Goths
#16=Pros
#5=Average
That game is balanced around the pros.
If pros want to balance the game to meet their standards, by all means, do it, but the entire game shouldn’t be balanced around the pros.
One of the first “updates” 343i bothered to do with the game was the removal of Behemoth. Because the “paid competitive community” were unable to form their strategic positions around the map to control spawns, because unlike the other maps in the ranked rotation, behemoth isn’t that small.
Which now going into season 2 makes me fearful that whatever the new arena map turns out to be, better get the tick of approval from these people as well otherwise we may not get to play it in ranked as well.
They really do have their hands on the wheel in this regard.
Eh.
Imbalances around Pro play may not be noticeable on lower level of play, because at that level of skill players either maybe haven’t learned all the ways to play yet, and haven’t experienced most tactics, so they can’t, or haven’t figured out how utilise imbalances which are noticeable at higher levels.
That is also why some things seem unbalanced in lower layers of skill, because players may not have learned how to counter, or avoid, specific tactics yet.
Chess pieces do not behave differently when your ELO rating is below a certain threshold, and you don’t unlock a new move-set for them if you pass it.
You are aware that it’s the developers making the changes?
They chose who they listen to, they chose what to do.
The only thing you’re saying is that you hate players who get it like they want it as long as it differs from what you want.
Same coin, just different sides, because if you’d get what you’d want, maybe they’d “hate casuals” etc.
Um, a gun getting nerfed is gonna be noticed in casual play.
This is quite possibly the worst analogy I have ever seen.
No, chess pieces do not behave differently when your ELO rating is below a certain threshold, but the chess pieces also don’t get their abilities and attributes changed multiple times.
No, it really isn’t, nor is it good for any other game.
Like I said before (yet you seen to conveniently ignore it) casual gameplay is A LOT different than pro gameplay.
What works/is OP for pros might not work/be OP for casuals and what is balanced for casuals might not be balanced for pros.
The funny thing is that it dominates on every map but behemoth, Launch Site, and BTB. All of the ranked maps are tiny, with a lot of CQC areas. If they had some variety in their map design, we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation. Hopefully Catalyst is something fresh.
The point is, stuff is severely unbalanced. I brought up the AR because casuals are fine with it but pros know damn well it’s busted to crap. Saying otherwise is basically asserting it’s fine.
