The Mangler isn't nerfed, its actually a melee focused buff

  • A global melee damage decrease of 10% on all weapons will require the Mangler to land two shots and a beatdown for a kill.

343i addresses the problem about the Mangler, but they didn’t directly nerf it. 343i perspective is individually nerfing the Mangler breaks their sensitive weapon sandbox. Doing anything to it breaks its unique capability from being used. (As for every other weapon I believe) Thus their conclusion was "nerfing the global melee damage.

That means, the Mangler might be becoming a two-shot melee kill, but every other weapon will also require more shots to melee kill as well. 343i main priority here is just encouraging ranged combat, but making the Mangler still a more dominant weapon close up. It may feel like it takes longer to kill someone with the Manlger now , but in reality, its just the melee TTK is longer duration than now, one second. The only weapon they purposely didn’t nerf is the BR, still a two shot melee for reliability purposes.

EDIT: I think I realized that the Mangler is already a precision 3 shot kill. So having to take two shots to already shield break and a melee to finish, kind of breaks the uniquq ability that Mangler had to kill enemies before shields drop… now im conflicted.

Everything for the “pros” right.

Waste of time and just ruins every other weapon.

Melee reduction not needed. Mangler nerf not needed. “Pros” are definitely not needed.

The major problems this game has, and again a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

…bring full collision back…

This! Every weapon is now less powerful just to fix one weapon. If you have to change every weapon in the game just to tweak balancing on one weapon, SLIPSPACE ENGINE IS THE PROBLEM!

If minor changes cannot be implemented in a live service game of 10 years without the entire game changing, SLIPSPACE ENGINE IS THE PROBLEM!

I would like to see how a global melee nerf plays out because I do feel sometimes the amount of bullets paired with a melee kill seems titled too far in favor of the melee.

But that is just my subjective experience. The devs have telemetry to know for sure how these variables interplay; I do not.

It’s also for the long term health of the sandbox. Long term games end up with power creep if nothing ever gets nerfed down to address it.

New weapons being introduced just have to keep getting more and more powerful to stay relevant in the sandbox, and eventually old weapons are drastically underperforming. So then there ends up being no point in using the old guns

this change makes a lot of sense as the mangler is but one of the much larger one shot one melee issue plaguing the sandbox as a whole, hopefully this is a good step in nerfing/curbing the power of melee as it is currently to strong and is used as a crutch.

Thats the scary part. They made each weapon a jack of all trades that in past Halo’s many individual weapons were good at one specific trait. Its going to be hard to implement new weapons if 343i care too much on a balanced sandbox.

I dont think they want to add a mode where there is a lot of chaos, so it just restricts there goals and paths on content.

Although I feel like the 2 shot + melee will make the mangler almost worthless, I tend to agree that melee in general feels a bit too powerful. It almost feels the AR is also a 2 shot + melee kill.

There will now be no reason to pick up the mangler.

The Mauler in Halo 3 worked practically the same way that the Mangler is being used… one shot, quick melee, kill. It was never a problem for Halo 3 and still exists in MCC but now all of a sudden it’s a problem.

Maybe, but the mangler is already a 3shot kill. Why would I use the knives literally welded onto the front when I can just pop off another shot?
Again, its why I didn’t like much of Halo 3’s sandbox. The spiker, brute shot, and mauler did have a slight melee buff, but it was too small of a buff compared to the regular and too weak compared to the energy sword and gravity hammer that no one used them for up-close combat.
Finally we have a Halo game that actually uses the brute weapon melee system, and it gets indirectly nerfed when every other gun needs a buff (which 343 said they are looking at). Now the Mangler, the pinnacle of this system, is back to being another pistol.

Well you’d probably just shoot someone out of arm’s reach. In however, yeah, you’d just punch them, the TTK is identical.

Def what you said just stir inside me something that i shoudl address…

sorry to he annoying I tried looking everywhere for this basic answer but if you could please tell me how to make a post as soon as I’m answered I will delete my post I promise. That is how to start a completey new post not reply to an already made post, I’ve looked all over on mobile and pc and see nothing.

All valid because 343 loves fixing what was never broken to begin with. If it’s enjoyed and works, leave it alone and build atop preexisting assets.

It’s like building a solid brick mansion and finding a shiny piece of gold bricklayer in the driveway, the whole house must go!
