The Little things I want in Halo 4

After going through the forums daily, I came up with ideas that I dont quite think deserve an entire post to themselves, so I decided to make this post listing the little things I want in Halo 4, but arent necessarily a Must-Have (so people dont think I’m trying to take 343’s time away from the actual game)

EDIT:Theater:

Higher FPS in Slow Motion
I think we deserve a higher frame-per-second slow motion in theater, rather than a frame-by-frame slow motion LOOKING slow motion. I’ve seen many videos able to slow the game down without going into frame-by-frame, so the FPS is there, the slow motion just narrows it for some reason

Rewind Function
and an actual rewind function, not just a skip backwards a few seconds. many times I have tried to get the perfect screenshot only to move forward too many seconds and have to skip back 6 seconds and miss the shot when I fast forward past it, then having to skip back again. put it on the left trigger, and move fast cam to something else like clicking the left stick or something.

Forge:

More Natural Objects in Forge
I would really enjoy being able to place actually NATURAL things, and not just rocks. things like trees would be a great addition, being able to make forests and maybe even recreate a “Slender” like map and gametype.

Undo Button
Do I really need to explain why? it’s great to see we have a lock button, it keeps the object where it is to prevent us from messing up after we’re done placing it, but it doesnt always guarantee us not messing up.

Texture/Color change
Being able to change the object’s texture and color, for more veriety. I know there are 3 forge environments, but just in case we get all grey forge items or objects that dont look good in opinions, or if we want different looking sections of our maps. how cool would it be to be able to switch between these items, these items, and even these items.

Multiplayer:

Aim Acceleration Option
that’s aim ACCELERATION, not aim ASSIST. the act of moving the camera and having it pan slowly initially, then speeding up. an on/off option would be very much appreciated.

Higher Sensitivity Limit
I’m sure a few MLG players would agree with me on this. sometimes, playing other games can make you feel like the “10” on halo is a little more like a “6”, but that might just be the aim acceleration.

less cluttered customization UI
all of the footage I’ve seen so far have listed each item next to each other, making the list seem endless. for people who dont understand what I’m talking about, here’s an example:

Eva helmet
Eva helmet(skin 1)
Eva helmet(skin 2)
Scout helmet
Scout helmet(skin 1)
Scout helmet(skin 2)
etc.

This also happens with weapon skins. I think we should select the item, then (like helmet attachments in reach) be able to choose what skin for that item.

More noticeable Secondary Colors
just a preference. I disliked how halo 3 was only limited to part of the helmet and shoulders. reach increased the notice-ability, but not in all the places I wanted. then again, I’m sure skins will help me with this.

Return of old/Addition of new game modes
I actually have a sub-list for this. the game modes that I’m not sure will be in the game but would like them(without reasons, I’m limited in text)

FFAs: Head Hunter, Infection (sort of FFA), King of the Hill, Solo SWAT (my idea. might be fun)
Teams: stock pile, 3 plots, SWAT, Race
Misc: Spartan ops, DLC specific (without being taken down when new DLC is released)

HUD color
Now, I can understand why they wont put it in the game, but I think it’d be a cool addition.

Campaign/Spartan Ops:

Scarab Battles
okay, this is not a small thing, this is a HUGE thing, physically, and figuratively. killing scarabs was one of my favorite things about halo 3, it was one of the things that really made me feel like a badass super soldier. every time I kill one I think to myself, “I did that. Myself”. besides, they are SO FUN! not being able to get on let alone kill one in reach really added to my disappointments list for that game.

Long Campaign
also not really a small thing. I know the amount of missions (8) doesnt necessarily describe how long the campaign is, but it just doesnt feel like much. then again, everything we’ve seen so far is impressive, so I’m ready to be impressed by 343.

For the Silvers
Why shouldnt SO be available to the silver members of XBOX live? they paid for the game, they chose halo, they deserve to play the extended campaign IMO, so why not let them? It can show how 343 cares for the community, and not only the people who pay monthly to microsoft.

Explained without being Confusing
I hope the campaign will be able to tell the story of the pre-covenant war era, the place in the timeline that was never explained in the games. a lot of people who only played the games have only scratched the surface and have a lot of questions that need to be answered (some of which are too ignorant to just watch some videos or read some books) through the game. BUT, the story needs to be explained clearly without being forced or confusing. a few (short but noticeable) cutscenes or scripted sequences, not a bunch of text that hints to a hint of the story in hidden records. also, they need to make sure they dont take too long explaining things, but rather showing things, if that makes any sense.
(the Last Airbender is a good example of how NOT to explain the backstory of a long story)

EDIT: If I have IWHBYD on, this better be playing in the game (and yes, I am jollymanproductions)

EDIT: A truly Scary Level
For many people, the level “343 Guilty Spark” comes to mind when someone asks them what the scariest level in any halo game was. we need a scary level, having a truly dark feeling, a truly lonely feeling, a truly scary feeling. at least something that will jump at you or startle you.

EDIT: Easter 7s
It has been tradition so far that every halo game have at least two dozen references (in some respects) to the number 7, bungie’s favorite number. 343 can easily do this, I know, but just letting you know this is one of my favorite things about halo: how much attention it (and the community) gets. “It’s the little things that make it all worth while”

that’s about all I have. I may have forgotten some things, but I’m sure it will come back to me in a little bit.
Discuss.

I would love a faster turn speed at high sensitivities and the ability to mirror objects in Forge.

> I would love a faster turn speed at high sensitivities and the ability to mirror objects in Forge.

you actually CAN mirror objects, it’s in the RTX video

also forgot to post the forklift, but ran out of characters

I agreed with a lot of these. One big one for me is the Scarabs, that would be totally Badass, or at least a Forerunner equivalent…come to think of it, that would be better.

And to make they VARIED. Like, in totally different locations, or something of the like. Maybe make a “defend the Infinity one” inside the Infinity. Stuff like that.

But overall, +1 for you.

We might not need a higher sensitivity limit since it sounds like a 3 sensitivity in Halo 4 is a lot faster than a 3 in Reach.

link?

You just made a thread that complained about people making threads about ideas and such that would never make it into the game, and you now promote this guy’s ideas.

Interesting.

OT: Maybe Halo 5, now’s the time to generate fresh ideas for the next game, nice and early in its dev cycle.

I want the Cobra to be in the game too, would come in handy if we ever got those Scarab battles.

oh sorry nvm it was actually duplicating, dont know why I mistook it for mirror

No, I made a thread complaining about rants and such, that will never make it into the game.

Its all in the manner your ask for stuff.

Clearly just blindly asserted your own opinion on the thread.

Oh, no worries, I had read the thread in its entirety.

Lol, don’t worry. I didn’t think you were right because i had followed RTX closely and never heard of that XD

Reading Thread == Not Blindly Asserting your Opinions.

Regardless, ES, I’m not derailing this thread.

ODST! ODST! ODST!

> ODST! ODST! ODST!

forgot that, yes, we need ODSTs

> Scarab Battles
> okay, this is not a small thing, this is a HUGE thing, physically, and figuratively. killing scarabs was one of my favorite things about halo 3, it was one of the things that really made me feel like a badass super soldier. every time I kill one I think to myself, “I did that. Only if they’re treated as infantry. As a boss setting, they’re overrated. We should also have suitable vehicles to take them down. There should be many ways to take down the Scarab.

History of Scarab battles (Halo 3):

  • The Storm -

On foot: jumping from the crane, which is very risky if you first don’t do something about the marines on the missile pods (as they can accidentally hit you up there) and can be unreliable (if the Scarab has noticed you, it may turn at the last second causing you to fall to your death)

In a vehicle: N/A

Disablement: mounted missile pods (which can take a long time unless you get lucky), Hog or Mongoose filled with rocket launcher passengers, well placed shots from a detached missile pod or rocket launcher, or by using a Wraith or AA Wraith’s gun

Unconventional:

-board the Scarab right when it comes down (slide jump, gravity lift, launching in a Wraith or AA Wraith)
-bring down a Hornet with a plasma pistol overcharged bolt, jump on top, and hope it flies close to the Scarab
-deload the Scarab. There are two ways, one of which will make it impossible to finish the level

<mark>This fight can be difficult due to the lack of space and generally limited approach but it has a sandbox feel and several unique boarding methods that make me give it a 9/10.</mark>

  • The Ark -

On foot: board the Scarab right when it comes down (fuel rod jump)

In a vehicle: driving a fast vehicle up the ramp

Disablement: Gauss Hog, Scorpion, Wraith, or well placed shots from the Chopper, fuel rod gun, or rocket launcher

Unconventional:

-driving a Chopper onto the Citadel building, driving to above where the Scarab spawns, and landing on it. This method yields no Choppers
-crippling/disabling it’s mobility in advance: jump from a branch onto the Scarab, getting on a turret so you don’t die and so it doesn’t disappear, shoot it in the legs with fuel rod gun or rocket launcher, jump down into the level, grab a Ghost and drive to where the Scarab fight takes place. You will either get an immobilized Scarab or a Scarab that gets down whenever you approach, allowing you to jump on it

This fight is the easiest, with only the Choppers presenting a constantly harassing threat. Once they’re gone, the Scarab’s a piece of cake, not to mention how the other Scorpion tanks can take a lot of punishment from it. <mark>Nonetheless, the unique boarding methods listed above are far too elaborate to ignore. Plus, it’s cool that we can drive it around by killing our allies and enemies than walking around on it. 9/10</mark>

  • The Covenant -

On foot: N/A

In a vehicle: flying to one in a Hornet or Banshee, driving vehicle up the ramp

Disablement: Gauss Hog, Scorpion, Wraith, Hornet, Banshee, well placed shots from the fuel rod gun or rocket launcher

Unconventional:

-getting on the passenger seat of a Hornet, letting the pilot drive, and getting off when it’s over the Scarab

This fight is the most overrated and limited in approach. It can be annoying when you destroy a Scarab too fast, getting launched and rarely surviving it. It’s also annoying when you end up with your Hornet stuck under the Scarab or have difficulty finding it. The Ghosts can be very dangerous unless you can catch one by surprise by boarding it. The Banshees are also very dangerous and very difficult to board. <mark>6/10, it’s tough but it’s not not invincible. It could be said that it’s the hardest Scarab fight in Halo 3 but I think it’s merely because of the limited approach.</mark>

So what can we get from this? Simple. There should be a lot more approaches but a lot more guards. Halo 2 had like 20 Elites though they spawned in waves. Scarabs should be massive so they can fit a lot of enemies. I found the Scarab deck in Halo 3 to be too small. On The Covenant, it’s practically impossible to fight them on foot.

We should also see Scarabs used by the enemy as boarding platforms: Elites driving a Scarab up to a fortification then jumping onto it. Imagine a level where we have to defend a Forerunner structure and there are 7+ Scarabs in the distance, firing at it then when they get up close, they deploy infantry. I always liked references to ancient warfare (boarding towers, ladders, etc.) in modern games…

Absolutely.

I guess
