The Linear Rifle, a Promethean counterpart

From a previous thread, I randomly thought up of a Forerunner counterpart to the Designated Marksman Rifle and the Needle Rifle and I figured this would be a fantastic weapon to put in the sandbox. I also know it should obviously have its own flavor of firing style.

Now I no clue on how it works or what kind of shots it might dish out but I do know that it could be a model mixture of the Binary and Light Rifle considering they both have the same concept idea to look long and slim.

Here’s a list of what equals out on the Halo weapons list briefly.

The UNSC - The Covenant - Prometheans
Sniper Rifle - Beam Rifle - Binary Rifle
Designated Marksman Rifle - Needle Rifle - Linear Rifle
Battle Rifle - Covenant Carbine - Light Rifle
Assault Rifle - Storm Rifle - Supressor
Magnum - Plasma Pistol - Boltshot
Shotgun - Energy Sword - Scattershot
Rocket Launcher - Fuel Rod Gun - Incineration Cannon

I think this would be a well balanced list if anything should be considered. Now remember I said, considered not put into works right this moment.

Just gimme my MA5B Halo 1 assault rifle, it is all i need, but i will happily take CE’s human pistol with explosive rounds.

Good idea, but then people would argue about the LightRifle and your new Linear Rifle, as they both would be either a four or five shot kill.

Again, I’m not even sure how it would work. I would leave it up to Three Hundred and Fourty-Three Industries to figure that out. I mean it could even be like the Focus Rifle or the Sentinel Beam. Who knows right?

Good point, even though there are Sentinels in this game, you can’t grab the Sentinel Beam, so maybe your weapon could fill that gap.

I think that the counterpart to the DMR would be a weaker focus rifle with shorter-ranged zoom.

If you want to expand the whole “counterparts” thing more:

UNSC-Covenant-Promethean

SMG-Plasma Rifle-Pulse Pistol (burst-fire pistol with large magazine)
Minishot (semi-auto dual-wieldable shotgun) - Gravity Hammer - Lightknife (melee weapon that can be thrown as an explosive)
Railgun - Concussion Rifle - Rupture Gun (similar to Brute Shot but fires in three-blasts)
Sticky Detonator - Plasma Launcher - Hardlight Launcher (fires bolts that burst into flame, burning opponents)
HMG - Plasma Cannon - Lightspit (similar to flamethrower, but longer range and narrower focus)
Spartan Laser - Antimatter Beam(does constant damage to target while focused, if target is killed target explodes) - Promethean Mortar (needs to charge up and lock-on to target, once locked-on, launches blast that arcs through air before landing)
SAW - Needler - Starslayer (extreme rate of fire, very low accuracy)

Yeah…The Concussion Rifle is no match for the Railgun…I think that counterpart is a bit unbalanced.

I was just matching them up. If we’re talking balance, the Plasma Launcher easily overpowers the Sticky Detonator and the SAW is better than the Needler.

Yeah, if they went with the original early concept design of the Grenade Launcher from Halo Reach, it would of easily balanced out with the Plasma Launcher.

The SAW and the Needler is actually not too bad 1v1 against each other, if they brought back the Reach Needler and upped the ammo, it would actually be nicely balanced.

OP brings up an amazing point. Where is the Covenant/Promethean equivalant to the UNSC’s DMR?

I felt this would bring the balance back to the gameplay. At least when we’re looking at Halo 4 now, it has three specific types of weaponry and we can break it down easily that way.
