The Librarian's plan continues in Infinite

“Reclaimer, when I indexed mankind for repopulation, I hid seeds from the Didact. Seeds which would lead to an eventuality. Your physical evolution. Your combat skin. Even your ancilla, Cortana. You are the culmination of a thousand lifetimes of planning.”

So, I know a lot of people tend to that this line of dialouge from Halo 4 as signs that Chief is a chosen one kind of person, but when you tie in what Halsey says in the prolouge of 4 about the Spartans being the next phase of human evolution, I think its safe to say that Chief represents the culmination of what the Librarian intends for all humankind. She very clearly wants us to the be the next Forerunners, literally.

MOLNIR? That’s the “Your combat skin” angle. Pretty analogous to Forerunner personal armor and/or combat skins.
Augmentations? Thats the “Your physical evolution” angle. Forerunners could change their bodies through a series of mutations.

The only bit missing thus far has been the ancilla, or AI, angle. Chief and Cortana represented the ideal connection befor she went rouge, but that completed the picture. Forerunners wore personal armor that house an AI construct and changed their physical forms via mutation.

And of course now what has 343 announced that Spartans can get in multiplayer? Personal AIs. At the moment they appear to be the basic Dumb AI variety and no way in hell would the UNSC freely allow Spartans and Smart AI to mix after the Created uprising. But we’ve seen pairings work with Chief and Cortana, Jerome and Isabel, and, in a limited fashion, Naomi and Black-Box.

Either way, it looks like we aren’t clear of the Librarian’s meddling yet. Interested to see what comes of it.

Do you think the Librarians AI could have cured Cortana of rampancy?

maybe off topic, but what is the status of the Librarian is she officially dead?

I hpe Infinite continues that story element.

Firstly, thanks for making a post about tying lore into campaign, and not just talk about multiplayer impressions! (Which is fine overall, but man, the multiple posts on the same topic is tough to wade through.)

I am thirstiest for how 343 is planning to tie the deeper lore into their GAAS model for the campaign, and what it means for us playing as Master Chief in years ahead. We know 343 is planning on releasing content that will effectively update the current world we’ll be playing. We won’t be getting any “new” Halos like a 7, 8, 9, etc - I look at Destiny as a pseudo-basis for what Infinite may be trying to achieve - aka sometimes there is a significant world change but you’re not buying a Destiny 3. And in multiplayer we’re now seeing a level of customizability (not just skins, now AI’s?) that feels like it’s building to a much more personal level of character development that ever before, something more than just for multiplayer. And our characters won’t be going away in a couple years because Halo 69 is coming out. (Doesn’t it feel like there’s a disconnect if, over the next decade, everything in the campaign is just Chief, no customizability, and multiplayer has all these goodies?).

So when I think about the points you made and being guided towards becoming Forerunners… it can’t just be Chief, it’s gotta be all of us right? So I just have this sneaky not-fully-thought-out idea that this first Infinite campaign will be the last time we play as Chief.

see my thoughts on his are similar to yours though HI being the last game as Chief doesn’t mean he’d die/retire etc any time soon. HI is supposed to last 10 years giving us plenty more time with the God that is S117.

while I am cautiously optimistic I am hoping they tie a lot of past lore into the world via terminals, puzzles, world events, locations and so on.

fingers crossed some of that lore will reference things introduced in 4 & 5 and even tie back to CE etc.

Ya, I don’t want to outright state he gon die. That’d be a little weird and I think ruin this fanbase irreperably. Mayhaps something like ascension in Stargate!? lol, I dunno, but I think eventually our personal Spartans will become the “main” character.

I feel like this is something that should be considered as a potential wildcard that gives 343i leeway to introduce anything. We know Cortana mentioned directly speaking to the Librarian essence herself while John was also having his little chat session. But whereas John got his geas activated, Cortana never did mention if the Librarian did anything for her beyond filling her in on ancient human history and the composer. Obviously it’s wholly possible nothing happened at all beyond that. However, it’s also a neat little narrative gap to exploit if need be where the Librarian could’ve done something for Cortana too with the latter never needing to mention it to John.
