The letter contained in the Halo 4 LE

Hi, so people who the Halo 4 Limited Edition would of got a letter that is at the back of the Infinity guide. This letter has got me thinking, now before i go any further i will put what is on the letter so people without the LE can contribute to this topic.

Written on the back of the letter

Thorne-
still looking for more, but i
found this on the network. If she
did put the engines in this thing,
then this has to be a letter to
her, yeah?

The letter itself

To: <<REDACTED CIVILIAN RECIFIENT>>

I realize this is an awkward note. We’re both old and wise enough to know there’s no love lost between us, but i know that, differences aside, you do care about our success. I also realize you’re not here under ideal conditions. You should accept both the reasoning behind and, bluntly, your own responsibility, for this matter.

When we started this project, it was a desperate dream. Create a <<REDACTED>> that could engage the Covenant on its own level. With brute force, with massive firepower, and with unflinching, unyielding ferocity.

We built it in the <<REDACTED>>. Hidden from view at the very outer periphery of our Solar System. It was one of the best-kept secrets in the history of human endeavor. We pulled it together in utter darkness from rock and iron and ice. It simply couldn’t have been built in any other way. The tonnage alone would have beggered mountains on <<REDACTED>>.

But out there, where the Sun’s wan light is as frozen and distant and pale as a specter, we lit our last torch. Our final hope. A startship, <<REDACTED>> miles long. More powerful, deadlier than anything we, or the Covenant, could make spaceworthy.

Of course, the Spartans, or more accurately, <<REDACTED>>, saved us. And your agency in this is not unappreciated - in some circles. They stopped the war before the <<REDACTED>> was complete. The brief moments of peace we had were not wasted. Some of us knew this couldn’t last. So we kept going. And now our desperate dream is real.

But things have changed. We are not fighting the kind of war we all lived through. So <<REDACTED>> has become something new. It has become a missive we fire out into the Universe that will give our enemies a simple warning: we are not afraid. We will not shrink from battle. We will not be cowed. We will force with greater force. We are Humanity. And we are ascendant.

The engines work because you <<REDACTED>>. The <<REDACTED>> was completed because of your research. But this is bigger than you. Bigger than us. I have no right to ask anything of you on a personal level, so i am appealing to you on a professional level.

Take care of <<REDACTED>>. Protect its crew. Protect Earth.

Regards,
M

So it says on the back of the letter “If she did put the engines in this thing, then this has to be a letter to her, yeah?” and as we know Dr.Halsey did the engines for Infinity. So is this letter really to Dr.Halsey and who do you think this is sent from?

For some strange reason when i saw “M” i instantly thourght of Senior Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez.

Thanks for your time

The only person i can think of when i see M is Margaret Parangosky and she doesn’t like Halsey too much. Unless the recipient of the letter is someone else, then it would make sense but i don’t know.

What about Mal From Glasslands/Thursday war?

i just wrote a gigantic post with slabs of text, but the preview button made me go into a white screen, and now i lost it all, here’s the short version:

It has to be Parangosky because both she and Halsey were in ONI.
The first clew is given right away, they’re not on friendly terms and they’re both old and wise.
Parangosky is around a hundred years old, and halsey is pushing 80 i think.
The letter also constantly states very secret ONI projects, which only the top echelon could know.
Even the place where they build infinity is stated.
And more incredibly, i even think the middle and last part state that they build the infinity, but that they couldn’t get it spaceworthy, even with covenant technology?
Which doesn’t really have to mean it sat collecting dust, but it could hint at the fact that halsey created the engines using forerunner technology, which she obviously did as we see in spartan ops.

Anyway, it comes down to the fact that the letter is full of stuff so secret, only a select few, other than those who worked on them, knew about it.
Which means M has to be somebody old, had to be in ONI and had to have a very high rank therein.

It couldn’t be anybody other than Margaret Parangosky.

My very first thought was Margaret Parangosky as well. I think it’s pretty obvious.

Anyways, it doesn’t add anything crucial to the plot now that Osman is in charge of ONI…

Parangosky is dead and Halsey is 66…

Have you watched Spartan Ops cut scenes?

Like the others have said, M is likely Margaret Parangosky. There is definitely no lost love between her and Halsey though, but I think even Parangosky is smart enough to realize that Halsey is still important. With Serin Osman in change of ONI, Parangosky likely made an appeal to Serin to keep Halsey around.

As for Throne wondering about Halsey, well, I like to think there is more to him than meets the eye.
