The Legendary Spartans are no longer Legendary

Unless they were around in previous Halo Games, where their routes are seated in battles and war, etc Buck. Looking at the Spartans now, they seem so bland and unappealing. Spartans like Locke and Spartan Thorne, who is from Spartan Ops, do not seem these badass warriors who could defend against the hordes of covenant. Do you think someone like Sarah Palma could fight till the end heroically like Noble 6? Or Spartan Locke could end a game on a one liner “What can I say, it was a hell of a Night” like ODST Buck? I do not believe so, for the simple reason that they are no longer at war.

On a side note, Halo 6 probably means that Earth has been occupied and now is at total war with Cortana and the Prometheans. However, this is different to the survivalist war of the Human-Covenant war.

  • I recommend you do some research on the background of some of the Spartan IVS, they are Spartans for a reason. - Chief has been bland for 4 out of 5 of his game appearances, Locke showed more emotion in his first game than Chief did in his. Chief expresses his emotion normally in body language in the books but in the games his movements are very wooden. - Many Spartan IVs have already had heroic last stands, Spartans Demarco and Davis are two that come to mind. - They are still at war, not officially but still the battles continue.

I think the Spartan IVs actually portray what actual (super) soldiers would be like in real life. They were already normal people and soldiers before they were augmented, so nothing would really changed once they became Spartans. Another thing is that they should be different to Spartan 2s (and even 3s) in terms of personality because the earlier Spartans were taken as children and trained to be highly efficient super soldiers from a young age. This would make you a very different person if from 5 or 6 years old the only thing you knew was being a solider, and then went through medical procedures that had a high chance of either crippling or killing you. By comparison, Spartan 4s had it easy, even if they suffered through years of war against they Covenant before deciding to become soldiers.

What you want is faceless badasses who can crush brute skulls with their minds. (not literally but you get my point)
Sadly, that’s bad writing, most people like substance to their characters.
Since reach, the characters seem more like individuals rather than something you can project yourself onto, this also means that writers need to work a little bit harder
to satisfy their fans, halo 5 and its Spartan 4s do that badly, with very little character development, relying on fans to seek out knowledge through other media.
I feel with saying that, chief isn’t going to last much longer, as he’s what’s left of previously good story telling gone bad.

But you know, red team are still functional, if you want faceless badasses, try halo wars.

Lol at the guy who said Chief is bland 4 out of the 5 games. One of those games he guides a warhead back to a Covenant ship just by opening an air lock. In the other, he slaps the head of a nuke to set it off in the palm of his hand. You are right, the guy is bland, he should be up in UNSC harassing an 80 year old doctor for making death robots who saved the world a few weeks ago.

dang

I honestly would like to see more of Locke. It’s a character that really has potential, for now, at least. But I would also like to see more of Chief gameplay too.
The two-sided style of the story in H5 is something I like, just maybe it should have been exploited closer to its full potential.
I’m sure 343 is learning from all this and H6 will be an awesome game as there was tons of feedback on H5 and what players want, but for now I’d like H5 to have a nice surprise for us all with Firefight and bringing Score Attack to H5 Campaign.

When you see Palmer shoot hood in the leg then tackle someone out of a window, throw a knife into his wrist to disarm him and finally stab the guy in the neck while defending the leader of the brutes and hood you change your opinion of her abilities

It must have an epic 1 liner though, otherwise what is the point?

And she shot a man as important as Hood because…? (And remember, this is the same woman who shot Halsey for no good reason, causing Halsey’s arm to be amputated.)

I think there is an attitude problem with a lot of Spartans who think they are “the -Yoink-”. The writers of many Spartan characters also seem to try too hard to make them “bad -Yoink-”, and in the end it comes off as over the top. Many of you may hate me for this, but I have disliked how Kelly was written in some of the novels. I’d rather powerful characters have a bit more depth to them, and not be so overly OP in one skill that they come off as prodigious and therefore a walking cliche (Mary Sues or Gary Stues on top of that).

To the OP, I am not finding Spartans “legendary” anymore because there now are just too many of them, with too few that I even give a damn about. I just can’t make myself like most of them. The Spartan label is getting tiresome for me.
