The last Halo game EVER!?!?

Does anyone else think this could be the last ever Halo game? The name Infinite says to me that this can be played for an Infinite ammount of time but I hope it stays relevant and just keeps getting updates like CS:GO or WoW and then gets ported to each Xbox. I would hate to see Halo die but the name Infinite… intrigues me. Anyone have any opinions on this?

Not likely I recall reading some time ago that 343 planned out 20 more years of Halo stuff. Additionally, the reclaimer trilogy has been changed to the reclaimer saga which points to additional games down the road.

Yeh I was gonna say I thought they predicted another saga down the road and they were planning on getting away from numbered games and just calling them like “infinite” or whatever. To me that says they have a lot more planned coming down the pipe.

Theyve said 20 years of Halo in the past. If the brand has weight they will make games out of it. If Halo 5 had bombed badly enough for them to consider ending the franchise then I don’t think they would have made Halo Infinite. Look at Mass Effect Andromeda and the Bioware division that made that. One panned game and EA pulls the plug. Presumably Microsoft was happy enough with the return and if they are funding a new engine and billing them at E3 that suggests they are actually investing in the franchise.

Yeah I do wonder if the Infinite reflects some aspect of the game. It could just reflect a return to big open sandbox maps. More outlandishly, perhaps they have procedurally generated environments to represent the whole ring with the ability to have firefights in these areas? I mean it could just be a campaign reference to the Infinity or Cortanas rule being Infinite because she’s immortal.

i dont know how many games halo has left under 343s banner, but Microsoft will find a way to make more halo games after infinite.

I really doubt it, I think they’d make less money if that were the case and Halo is Microsoft’s biggest franchise. I can’t see them not trying to milk it as much as possible.

I don’t disagree with what your saying, but is Halo Microsoft biggest franchise now? I think one could easily agrue that it isn’t. Just think about it… Halo isn’t the system seller it once was I’m sorry to say. I would make the case the Forza is the face of Microsoft now. I see way more advertising for Forza games then any Halo game now. I’ve actually seen (literally heard/saw this guy say say it in Bestbuy. I’m getting Xbox one x so I can play Forza) and personally know people who bought Xbox one for just Forza. I have friends who’s kids don’t even know what Halo is :frowning: and that’s sad…but they know what Forza is.

I don’t know, I know it’s just opinion but I really don’t think Halo is Microsoft face anymore. Hopefully Halo 6 will change all that.

I highly doubt it. Halo still makes money. Maybe not as much as it used too, but it still does. As long as it’s making money, Microsoft will keep making them. No different then Nintendo making Mario games or Sega Sonic games and so on.

i doubt it will be the last halo ever. even if it bombs worse than … i don’t know.

the “worst” thing i can see happen is, that it will be in some kind of standby until many years down the line it will be revived. And i put worst into “”, because after a bad entry some kind of cool down time never hurts (which i have the feeling we kind of get already after h5… just my opinion).

it is still one of -Yoink!- strongest IPs. i doubt they want it to end.

Fair point, I’m sure Forza has sold much more this gen than Halo has but Halo is still a huge IP for Microsoft. As far as marketing goes H5 and MCC had tons, I wouldn’t say Forza has more. It probably just seems that way because the last new major Halo title was 3 years ago whereas Forza has a release yearly. I’m sure the year of H6’s release we’ll see a lot of marketing.

I like that, possibly in the campaign you team up with Red Team and figure out an understanding and then take on Cortana and Chief is the only who can do it but he gets emotional and has to fight that as Spartans are meant to kill there emotions.

Won’t happen. Cash cow :moneybag::cow2:. Moo.
Right now Halo is attempting to not rock the boat they have done there best with the series but much in the 343 era has been poorly received. So for the last few years they have been solely focused on pleasing those that stock around; hence all the MCC love as of late. The switch back to am older artistic styling would also support this. They want to actually retain the fan base and bring back some of the wayward fans. Making such a major change to the franchise like you are proposing would effectively kill that progress. Halo is trying to get back to basics right meow. Becoming a wow hybrid doesn’t help that goal.
I think infinite is just a name. I think they want people to think expansive. The last title tried to look as big as past titles but several of the so called levels have you talking and unable to use your weapons the whole time. They want to be done with numbered titles I think it is due in party to wanting so seem like there is more story than I’d implied when you see something like Halo 17, its not inviting to new people.
It’s not a bad theory I just think you are reading too much into the name.

I think Halo is at a time where it has become from a Star to a Problem Child.

There’s still so much they can do with Halo, Infinite will not be the last. Its not even the last game of the Reclaimer Saga there’s most likely going to be a Halo 7. Then after that maybe they’ll start working on all of our dream games like another ODST spin-off or Halo Wars 3.

I hope 343 makes a Halo prequel because ODST and Reach were the best when it comes to story.

Dreams for reach from the Spartan II perspective

Also just thought about it, the economics of developing a whole new engine for HI doesn’t make sense unless they plan to use it for future Halo or other 343i titles.
