Sorry for being rude here but 343 you suck at making halo games… you know what the game is good its just your servers suck nades… you need to fix them or halo 5 is going to be atrocious i rather not get a game that is going to suck so please 343 before you make the online for halo 5 UPGRADE HALO 4 because no one will want to play halo 5 if this game keeps up, And i have a question for this main topic.
When Bungie ran halo: Make it for people to love the game.
From what i see when 343 makes halo: If there isnt lag its not a game…
just please update the lag like make the host the best person not the person with the shitest connection like really even i can make a better server system then that and im only 16 TT.TT
Saying “sorry for being rude” doesn’t make your comments any less rude. And bypassing the word filter is a bad idea.
But in other news, dedicated servers for Halo 5. Things should get better.
Another person who is under the misconception that current Halo games run their matchmaking on servers. All curent Halo online matchmaking is running on peer-to-peer hosting. This means that the game is running on the connection of a single person’s internet connection, not an online server. If the host has a bad connection, everybody has a bad connection. This is what causes the lag. The only server for each game is the one that actually sets up the game, deciding the map/gametype for the games in each playlist.
Also, like the other guy said, Halo 5 was confirmed to be having dedicated servers for its online games by Bonnie Ross at this years E3.
Servers are used by Halo4 to impliment the matchmaking system, even though the game is then run peer to peer.
And OP is correct to complain about the lag/networking issues - one of the major problems driving people away from the game.

It’s also a problem that EVERY HALO HAS HAD except CE, of course. Its fine to complain about what you’re seeing now but it’s completely unfair to 343 to take the issues of a basic networking model and lay at their feet its horrible limitations after they did do some decent work to improve it from what Bungie was running in Reach. Go back to the old games and you’ll find the same and worse as what you’ll find here (of course depending on the quality of the hosts you find but the general trend should favor Halo 4 over previous Halos, especially Halo 3 and ODST.)
Also, servers technically running behind the scenes to manage playlists (like servers are running now to manage this conversation) is sort of beside the point…they still aren’t directly involved in multiplayer gameplay.

I barely ever have problems with lag, maybe in around 95% of my Halo 4 games, and only have a standard broadband connection that averages 4-5Mbs download and 0.6Mbs upload. If anything, Halo Reach lags more for me than Halo 4 does because on Reach I go black screen almost every game. Other than when Halo 3 was in its prime, Halo 4 so far has been the best game for me connection wise. Like I said, its all host dependant, not a 343 server issue.

My point exactly. I couldn’t have said it better.
I honestly think 4 lags because of the graphics and lighting system, which are the max the xbox can run. I’ve noticed Reach lags less for me though.

OP is clearly aware that the servers pick the host and wishes the choice to be improved . Read his post - last 2 lines. So it is exactly the point.

In my experience most people find the lag problems in H4 worse than Reach - problems made worse by the lack of a local only search option.
Have you ever considered that it is your connection?
I have played Halo 4 for countless hours and have only had major lag in Co-op and Spartan Ops. Which was the case for Halo 3 and Reach.
In The Matchmaking I’ll every so often have a bit of teleporting of either myself or others, but nothing major. To be honest I had worse lag in Halo Reach.
There was one match in Halo 4 were everybody was teleporting and I had no sprint or AA or reticule… It was pretty intence lag going on… But you know what I did? Left the game and joined another which had no problems.
It bothers me when so many people come onto forums just to whine and complain about things and blame 343 for “ruining Halo”…
Halo 4 pushes the 360 to its max, and if all the other players(for example) were in Europe and you in America the server would pick the guys in Europe for host due to him having the best connection with everyone else. Due to this, we all experience lag. This is unavoidable without dedicated servers and should not take away the main aspects of the game. Sorry for any inconvenience!
