If this has already been posted or discussed, then by all means someone point me to the topic so I can get educated.
My own personal theory is this. 343 tried something entirely new, or cut a few corners, or saved a few bucks with the matchmaking system/coding, hence the lack of playlist options. The more people in a playlist, the faster you’ll find games, local players, etc … that’s common sense. So it could be that the lack of game types/playlists was in anticipation of this overhauled engine failing miserably at supporting everything.
At any rate, here is the issue(s). I often find myself having to put 10-12 DMR shots in someone to kill them. Game types like Swat and SOPs are laggy as hell, but playable … although frustrating and more or less a quit waiting to happen. And probably 1 or 2 times out of 10 (its not often, but why does it even happen at all?) I’ll AR someone’s shield off, then melee … only for the finishing blow to not register at all. There is a thud, like the melee connected, and yet we are still fighting, lulz. I won’t even get into the 3-5 minute waits just to get into games during peak times, either.
So how do I know this is not my internet?
-
because tons of others have the same issues
-
because I never had any of these issues with Reach, despite using the same High Speed Internet set up
-
because a week ago I got so angry at H4 that I put H3 in, with all of 7k people online, and since then I’ve played about 50 games, all of which I’ve yet to experience any ridiculous search times, and/or lag, period. (I find it absurd that a 5 y/o game runs better than a 2.5 mo/old game)
Now here is my question.
How EASY of a fix is any of this for 343? Are we talking tons of money, some in game tweaks, or engine tweaks, or what? Are we talking a year from now, or can this be done by the February update? Is all of this a lack of dedicated servers? Would dedicated servers clean this mess and sloppy play up?
Who here knows about this stuff and fixing it?
