At the moment games are often massively one sided with one team stomping the other. This is going hinder onboarding for new players massively as they’re not going to stick around, they’ll just play something else.
Skill based matchmaking is a must nowadays, not just in Ranked play. Hyper Scape died largely because of the lack of it.
I do definitely feel like this would be nice yeah. Came here to give feedback on this among other things. SBMM and etc. should definitely not be exclusive to ranked. I don’t feel like I should be required to try to play competitively just to play against people that are as good (bad) as me.
(Edit: Maybe I’m dumb and don’t fully comprehend what SBMM actually does but that’s why I said “and etc.” cause just matchmaking in general.)
Don’t agree with this at all. SBMM is the worst for games nowadays. Its understandable for competitive players for game modes like Ranked but its terrible for Social game modes. SBMM is only been around for a few years now and games where way better back in the day when it was random. The roll of the dice layout that made for a better and fun experience rather than constantly being pitted against hyper competitive players for sweaty games. SBMM is terrible for connectivity also. Your ping is increased and your games lag more often because SBMM is Paring you with players from different parts of the world rather than local play. Not only that it’s bad for new and old players who just want to play the game. There’s ranked for serious players but with SBMM there’s no room for fun and this is the main reason why people will not play and end up leaving because every game you try and play will be against big parties who are MLG wannabes. Not only that its very difficult to play games these days solo because of big parties to a point that you feel kinda forced into joining a big party just so you could stay alive long enough and not be spawn trapped to have a enjoyable moment. The fact that people are thinking that SBMM is the normal way games are nowadays is just terrible and no games should really have it at all. Games were more enjoyable back in the days before big corporate game companies decided to make matchmaking into a slot machine money maker. Didn’t win try again…aww you lost try again until you get that satisfaction win that will make you play non stop. How about we make all games super quick to play and if you die your put back into a menu waiting for your battle Royal mode to load back up with stric SBMM to keep you hooked. Im not having a go at you for posting this but SBMM is just terrible and I’m sorry if you never really had a long term experience from games that never had SBMM. Those days were the best
I don’t know what you are talking about, every game I have is always close its working as intended. If its not working for you, you are either statistically getting worse or you have not played enough games for the algorithm to calculate your actual skill level.
I don’t think you understand what SBMM is. It has functionally been around since match making was created. Even Halo 2 had a version of Skill Based Match Making. The SBMM was a part of the marketing for Halo: Reach.
Did you even read what I was talking about. Sounds like you barley looked at what im talking about. Of course I know what SBMM is and how it came to be nowadays. There are more cons about it than pros and im not the only one who doesn’t want SBMM anymore
All games have SBMM. In fact to double check and make sure I know what I’m talking about, I do, I did a minute of research and found an article on TrueSkill, an SBMM algorithm owned by Microsoft for the original Xbox, when it was still new.
All matchmaking in any game; matches players based on skill.
Go ahead and read for yourself. If you search, " Live in the Next Generation: The TrueSkill System" The article in question comes up, dated from 2005 if I’m not mistaken.
We all know this and we all have Google. I have no idea why your “having a go” at me because of this. You have your thoughts and I have mine. I didnt ask you for your opinion. Don’t go around putting your feedback on someone comment its not constructive and you can be banned for doing so. Just FYI. SBMM was made in some way back in the day doesn’t mean its the same as it is now compared to old games like halo 2. I’ve been gaming for years and know what it was like then and now. We all do
I’m having a go at you because what you first said was provably wrong. You said SBMM was something that came from the last few years and that nobody wants it. I proved that false. I never shared an opinion. I shared some facts and facts don’t care about your feelings.
If you don’t want feedback on a public forum don’t go posting then. This is a public forum and what I said was absolutely constructive. I was correcting false information.
I never said SBMM is the same as it used to be. Developers tend to all create or rely on their own proprietary match making algorithm for what suits their needs the best. Not all SBMM is made equal today, but its existence is ubiquitous across the industry. Good SBMM is when you never know there was SBMM to begin with. Halo Infinite has decent SBMM.
You keep saying, “We all.” How do you know what we all do and don’t know?
Having a strict SBMM is bad for games and most people have experience this and most don’t want it. Im not wrong. That’s you with your opinion. I shared some facts too and I didn’t cram them down anyone’s throat. This isnt my post I left a comment its my opinion and you shouldn’t really let anyone else’s opinion trigger you as much. Thuis is a forum not twitter and what you are doing is non constructive. All your doing is trying to correct me because you feel like my opinion isn’t right by your terms. No you didn’t say SBMM is the same as back in the day… I said that. Your having a go at yourself at this point. How do I know what we all know and like because I’ve been on halowaypoint for years now and have seen the same issues, problems, updates and know how people feel about halo. You can to its easy there is a place where you can “SEARCH” in forums. Now try and be civil and not comment back at me kid. Ive read your comment and opinion I agree with some things and don’t with the rest. Learn to deal with things than let them offend you. If you do comment at me again all your doing is being a snowflake and making a non constructive post and I’ve warned you already about that.
Lmao yes I can read and see what I wrote. I dont want to waste my time and qoute you. Thanks for proving my point snowflake. Well done on not being civil and acting like a childbrain oh wait sorry for doing such good work lol and correcting the record lmfao. Your still wrong. No matter how much you Google anyone can do the same. You haven’t even realised we’re talking about the same thing you might have read more on Google then me but I’ve been trough it to see the difference. Your hung up trying to correct me so much and why…oh yea your a snowflake whis easily offended and its trying to be like I’m right your wrong. Kid give it over trust me. Don’t go around forcing your opinion on others. If you don’t like mine then don’t just dont be a snowflake and try to tell me anythjng. Cant believe you quoted me like I cant read my own posts omfg. Hopefully we don’t get banned for this kid because this is pointless thanks to you for trying to correct the record lmfao
then what about btb? or challenges that require quickplay? or even having the bot mode choose the bot difficulty based on your skill level? The “just play ranked” defense completely misses the point thats being made with this thread.
Don’t know how SBMM would fix this. This happens in every game with SBMM. This game is brand new as well, so it doesn’t really matter what system is in place. It also doesn’t help that the system doesn’t encourage winning or give you a choice on what modes to play, so you’re going to get a mix of people who do care, and people who don’t care, regardless of skill level.
Every game of recent that has SBMM in a social setting makes the game not fun for anyone who performs above average normally, it’s a punishment for playing well, longer matchmaking times, laggy matches, constant sweats etc. Social playlists are for people just trying to kick back and play the game not sweat which is why SBMM has no place in the social playlist. Get destroyed one game? Better luck next game. There’s no reason to punish players for performing well just because they rocked you for a game or two.
If we are talking about the “loose SBMM” from older games like BO2 for example then fine, but if we are talking about “modern SBMM” then that’s a hard pass.
Or if you play with friends, at their skill level. If I play by myself I’ll go like 14 and 3. If I play with my friend who has always been amazing at Halo, I’ll go like 2 and 8. Skill based matchmaking sucks.
