The lack of Prometheans is concerning

Initially I agreed that it’s a little ret-conny for 343i to just conveniently not be including Prometheans, but honestly they weren’t all that much fun to fight anyways. Knights were ok. I’m ok with them bringing back the Forerunner faction, but even the Promethean sandbox was a little boring. I’m fine with them taking a hiatus for the next 5-10 years.

Looking at the Halo Wars 2 concept art I think it’s because they wanted this to be a horrific faction like the Necrons. This technological abomination of the Forerunners. But they never quite managed to sell that idea and by Halo 5 they were serving a very different purpose as Cortanas robot army where really sentinels could have fulfilled their story function.

This. I could go on for hours about how genius the Covenant’s AI and weapons are compared to the prometheans.

They discard the Prometheans and the Flood.

As much as I hated fighting the Prometheans. They should not be sidelined entirely. They need to be closed out with good writing and logical reasoning. Not just cast aside for reasons unknown. And the Flood have been abandoned by 343 when the Flood is the whole reasoning behind the Halos. Which is Halo’s identity.

Because obviously with no blood splatters, T rating and game being live service child orientated. The return of the Flood is very unlikely now.

Pretty sure there’s blood in the game, there’s a couple of screenshots on reddit with blood. I can’t predict if there’s Flood but I’d be surprised if they don’t show up considering the game takes place on another Halo ring.

My problem is, why would the Watchers throwing back grenades or revive dead Knights be bad design? They were new challenges, but hardly these frustrating obstacles, even on Legendary. People meme about them now, but Halo 2 Jackal snipers on Legendary felt far more broken than the Prometheans ever were.

I agree fully - I actually found them very fun to fight. That in conjunction with the low ammo in the campaign made me really have to use everything at my disposal to get through legendary - it was one of the most satisfying Halo experiences I’ve played.

For example if you throw a grenade to the left of a knight, he’ll turn towards it and brace - giving you a chance to flank right and assassinate him. Having to come up with inventive ways to take down these formidable enemies (they’re strong, have shields, can teleport etc) is much more satisfying than noob comboing everything with the br.

Not to mention their lore and aesthetic are really cool, bordering on cosmic horror additions to the franchise. Did you ever stop to think that maybe the crawlers were composed children and the watchers babies?

I really do wish that 343 stuck to their guns after halo 4. People complain now about 5 and infinite being less military sci-fi and lacking grittiness, but 4 had that in spades, and was the more mature reboot of Halo CE for what could’ve been a grown up echo of the original trilogy.

Personally, I found a Needler did just fine against the Knights lol

As for the Crawlers and Watchers. I don’t think Crawlers are made from humans, but the Watchers AI comes from that of the Knight AND human children were used to make Knights.

This is very well thought out and valid. My first instinct was certainly “naw I hate prometheans in Halo 4,” but I absolutely see your point.

I think that Halo Infinite is, in some ways, a half measure. It aspires to be a spiritual reboot but honestly I think it should be an actual reboot. They could maybe find a way to pick their way out of the mess they created, but I’d almost rather see them just write off Halo 4 and 5 as non-canon and start again with a new story after Halo 3. They can then pick and choose the good bits of canon from what they have created, and skip the missteps they made. I think that the decision to bring back chief in Halo 4 was the first major misstep. The end of Halo 3 was such a solid way to put him in the background, then have a new character created spartan a la Noble 6 take over in a new “Halo 4.” Then have Chief float around in space for a few games and bring him back heroically as a badass NPC (the new Johnson.)

It’s sad I liked the concept of the Prometheans. I feel like they should have been a boss type construct, similar to how they are done in Warzone. Them being a standard enemy with the description Guilty Spark gave them felt strange. Also I’m glad you brought the idea of concepts constantly being dropped. I feel like things should be fleshed out in Halo. I would love to one day see a Promethean and Flood AI battle in game.

That was a cool ability, meant you had to kill watchers first, otherwise they’d just be ignored until afterwards.

Wasn’t this only in Halo 4?

This was infuriating/annoying, they should’ve had a visual cue for sure indicating they were about to teleport, but even then, it’s still annoying because you wouldn’t know where they’re going.

I believe they were much better in Halo 5, where most of the time you weren’t fighting knights but instead fighting soldiers (which were far less tanky) and the Binary rifle variant was also well designed, I think.

Don’t get me wrong here, the prometheans were not fun/well designed enough to be a central enemy type, but do I think they’d be fun as a side enemy? (Sort of like Buggers or Hunters and so on) probably yeah.

Make Halo 4 and Halo 5 non-canon and that’s going to have a ripple effect on the media and stories connected to it. I get your point, but I think it’d be better to let Infinite get the story back on track and then circle back to bring closure to the things 343 shelved from 4 and 5. Making them non-canon would be a major slap in the face to the fans who enjoyed those stories and just simply isn’t necessary. It’s just a lazy way to manage a universe.

I like them a lot too. They have an intriguing backstory. Despite what others said those years ago, I LOVED the Knight’s warping-toward-you ability. Once gave me a shock, then I said, “Woah!”
Seems the developers took the hate of the Promethean Soldiers as bullet sponges as the reason to toss them aside. 343 needs to stop that. Most of what they come up with is fascinating.

Honestly the fact that they were robotic just doesn’t satisfy me when I kill them. There is something about shooting an organic being that sprays blood out of their brain, that makes it so much more fun. I do really like the lore behind them though so it’s def kinda weird. I mean there’s now way they could be organic Cause of the flood and all that it just isn’t as fun to kill them for some reason. It’s like I didn’t kill anything if that makes sense.

I can’t find any sources saying they aren’t in the game. As a matter, I would rather enjoy them being used later on in some seasonal aspect once they really get the engine running with this. Perhaps it was simply for a later reveal they do intend to bring them.

Here’s to hoping.

Agreed except for the whole human are the original holders of the mantle. That really threw me off for some reason.

Can you think of why?
Having them be the Reclaimers instead of ancient humans being the Forerunners was a better move.

Escalations, yes, but I don’t buy it personally. The Didact is far too great of a character embedded in Halo lore to die that easily.

They’ll probably come eventually if the Flood are found at some point. I just hope there just not spammed like they are in 4,5 since I got sick of them plus there not fun to fight in 4 or 5.

We all know how well it worked to do that with Star Wars.
