I mean wow… that premade map (4 bases map) they showed in the gamespot video… white… white… WHIIITTEEE!!! everywhere! I will have no clue where I am when I’m gonna respawn in that map everything is identical to the oppsite side… Didn’t you learn from reach 343? Give us tools! This is beyond obvious that we want this… Why don’t give us the option to add colors in our map? I really hope that I’m wrong and there is actually texture modification or colored lighting. I’m so disappointed… everything but this is great about forge but it seems to me that is a major element needed.
For asymetrical maps like lockout or ascension, its fine to have one color because its easy to situate yourself by looking at the structures.
But for a symetrical map we absolutly need colored lights, think about Heretic(midship) in halo 3 how the 2 bases have a blue or red light, I’m very worried they removed the colored lights because in the map they shown, none of the 4 bases had different lights exept for shadows of the dynamic light. In a competive game it is very important to know exactly where you are at all time and also, to callout where the enemy is.
Different texture colors would be important also, think about The pit in halo 3, the green hall and the yellow walls, it just helps alot to callout.
Halo really needs a real map editor… forge is outdated. 343i plz… Stop thinking that we are dumb players and give us more complex but complete tools. I just hope that in halo 5 forge is replaced by a map editor.
Yeah, sadly I noticed the same. It looks better than Reach’s grey, but it’s still very repetitive. I like the Forge, but they need to add textures and colors. Also, they said each map had a specific theme, but both Ravine and Impact seemed to have the same white blocks. Is this just because the build used here wasn’t finished?

Grey was better. I predicted Forge’s failure in Halo 4 from the announcement. They could have had it be Greenish for UNSC and Purple for Covenant, but the devs put little to no work on forge and too much on their “Trait Zones” and “Gravity” crap.
I am disappointed with CA and their inability to make a forge map look good. We had a big enough pallet in Reach, we didn’t have color. They remove all the color that existed.

Moa doesn’t. It isn’t the colors that cause the FrameRate Drop, it is the lighting that causes in in Reach.
I want you to go back and look at every single map in every single game. Most of them have a dominant color!!! This comes as no surprise! I’ll take a milky white over depressing grey any day.

I think they are a little too excited about the trait zone stuff. It’s nice to have and all, but I’m more concerned with the look of things. I like what they’ve done to make building easier with magnets and dupiclations, but the look needs to improve. Relay was what really struck me. I couldn’t even tell what the map looked like until I focused on it.

Pretty sure it was the amount of things (forge stuff) on the map.

The lack in contrast causes that strain on the eye. Reach had more contrast with is “Unique” lighting on the forge objects. The new lighting seems to make the maps look worse, and create that distinct lack of contrast, which if you couldn’t tell irritates the crap out of me.
I’m not over the moon with forge in Halo4. It just wasn’t the ‘massive leap’ I was expecting; like from Halo3 to Reach. But think of it this way: at least it isn’t grey.

Lighting in Reach includes the custom colors on the objects, the light balls, Man-cannons,
and Kill Balls.

When I first saw the space thing, I was like “HOLY CRAP I CAN FINALLY BUILD A FRIGATE IN SPACE!!!”
…a white frigate, that is. How is white UNSC themed? When has the UNSC ever used white?
That lack of contrast in colors and textures is good for building large overarching designs out of pieces, but it really falls flat when creating a small map, as any forger will tell you. I hope there are darker pieces to add more contrast.

Don’t care, dynamic lighting and different base environments will help out a lot with the “samey” feel of the maps.
Besides, tons of older maps were just a single color. Midship, Lockout, Chill Out, and Derelict are ones that come to mind right away. Are you going to call those maps bad?
