What if Master Chief is sent on a mission to retrieve the Janus Key, then after Hasley tells Chief what it is does, locates any forerunner device in the Milky Way Galaxy, he tries to find a way to find Cortana. But before he can the do that, the Didact/Mendicant Bias/Precursor or whoever intervene so Chief goes rogue to find a War Sphinx or a weapon of sorts to fight with. Feeling it?
What exactly is the speculation? That Chief gets in a War Sphinx and fights the Big Bad of the game? That is certainly an idea, but not really much in the way of hardcore speculation. That and Chief likely isn’t going to FIND Cortana seeing as how she is dead.
Forerunner tech can’t resurrect AI’s from thin air.
Janus Key plot is likely to be continued though, as Escalation currently isn’t touching on it. So unless its a tie in to the show/digital thing, H5 is very likely.

Chief might not get sent on a mission, but he may seek out Halsey in order to find out if Cortana can be resurrected. The Janus Key may play a role. It’s likely Mendicant Bias does.
As stated in spartan ops the Janus key will reveal all KNOWN pieces of forerunner tech of course when the 2 halves meet. but in a way I don’t really see the Janus key playing a role in Chiefs story if it is true that he left prior to spartan ops. He will most likely never find out of its exsitance unless he has a forerunner buddy that tells him about it or of the million other reasons that he could find Halsey or the UNSC.
Could it be that the infinity did not return to not just suppress the covenant but to also find the chief.
If this is the case then it means chief fled and is in search of something but we are not completely sure what he is searching for.
Its almost obvious he is not looking for cortana but perhaps he is looking for someone or something that could help with her resurrection.
Perhaps chief has learned that the didact has survived and possess a weapon far greater than the composer, one that was not of forerunner design. In this instance chief is left looking for the one person or thing that could help him fight it.
Perhaps he came by the return of the flood and is now looking for the one way to control it rather than eradicate it.
Maybe chief feels like an outcast. stated in the halo 4 prologue that Spartans kept efficient by the “tools” that Halsey delivered them but now that chief has nothing he feels lost and confused and searches for an answer aimlessly but along the way discovers the true fate of his and humanities imminent doom.
Actually, doesn’t Escalation mention that he left 72 hours after ariving on infinity? Thats 6 months too early to go on a mission to find halsey or hunt the janus key.

Issue 8 is called “The Next 72 Hours Part 1”. What the means exactly isn’t clear. Does that mean this and issue 9 are only covering the 72 hours after Halo 4; or is that only for issue 8, with issue 9 covering the ensuing months after the Chief’s Requiem campaign?

I think he’s meaning because there are fragments of Cortana in forerunner technology the chief then tries to find a way to reunify them into a single coherent AI
and yes there are plot holes but still nice plot theory
I’m…
This thread is rather old, but I still think it has some discussion value left within so this necro is, IMO, a welcome necro.
But be warned, the mods may not share my philosophy.
