easy to play, hard to master. halo 5 missed the first part. Also infinite is not as simple as you say. There are a bunch of techniques to learn .
Hereâs the problem tho. Halo CE - 3 doesnât have standard movement either. I feel like Halo should be its own thing. Not a copy of what works in other games. The classic halos didnât have Sprint, clamber, and slide like most other shooters do
This is why I think no Sprint and thrusters would be cool.
Or HCS settings from Halo 5.
Or even classic itself.
You know. Something different from every other shooter that offers that Sprint, clamber, slide gameplay
I agree that Halo 5 is hard which is why I think comepetive should be its own thing entirely with itâs own maps, modes, weapon placements, and movement. I think standard/basic movement has its place but not as the whole game.
Iâm fine with clamber and sprint, I donât really like sliding. Clamber gives you the same height as crouch jumping, and sprinting is barely faster than regular movement. And Halo did have standard movement as sprint wasnât a thing really until CoD MW which was Halo 3 and so Bungie brought it in in Reach.
a tl;dr should be one paragraph, but whatever you are making a subtle point here so it makes sense it would need more explanation.
Halo (as a series) has always been very very conflicting and/or segmented. You have tons of different communities, whereas something like Fortnite Iâm asssuming is much more straightforward and although there is probably a big split in terms of solo/duos or whatever its a simpler community to understand.
Lots of people like newer Halo, lots of people liked older Halos, its a conflicting franchise so no wonder there are so many that view things differently.
I could elaborate on this further but it would take a lot of time. Halo CE to Halo 2 (yes, weâre going back to OG here you Halo 5 kids, sue me) was a drastic difference, completely different games although they still shared a lot of things, the differences only compounded more over the years especially when you entered 343iâs Halo so the series never settles into one gameplay loop (ala CoD or CSGO, for example)
The reason why people are so split is because most werenât around in the beginning and came in at different places.
Majority of people here probably never played H2 online during its peak because they were too young/didnt have an xbox/didnt have xbox live. Most came on during H3. Then even more during reach. So theyâre always going to gravitate toward the one the played first or grew up with without knowing anything about the predecessors. By that time call of duty had become the staple shooter so kids expect a COD experienc .Then H5 got a lot of hate because of the campaign, req packs., and not being casual friendly.
I think youâre missing the point here.
There is a difference between pleasing the audience by copying a game from the ground up and getting inspired by something in order to improve the formula.
Halo Infinite gets this right for me, at least more than H5, H4 & Reach (Iâm talking about the gameplay here) by putting more emphasis on the sandbox, the maps & the physics.
In terms of sprint, Iâll always dislike games strictly relying relying on Sprint, however, I donât think it hurts the interactions as much as it did in previous Halo games for me. Iâm more or less fine with it.
Equal starts & interactions within the map (Teleporters, Man Cannons, Vehicles, unique Map Layouts, Equipment, dynamique Map Elements, Pickups) are what makes Halo interesting to me.
If you give all this stuff to the player right from the beginning (Spartan / Armour Abilities), the game looks cool at first, but gets incedribly repetitive after a short time.
When everything is designed around many factors, you have barely any freedom in creating unique scenarios.
Some of these points are still not executed well enough, Iâd like to see more engagement with dynamique map elements and more emphasis on vehicle combat and way more involvement of neutral equipment.
youre basically asking for 2 different games. we barely have 1.
halo 5 really was just mashed together mechanics with no real thought. infinites simple movement is an accomplishment. it has the most balanced and well designed sprint, slide and shooting mechanics on the market. no need to reinvent the wheel with movement. Just make it smooth as butter over other janky games and thats it.
This is where the word inversion comes into play because I believe the exact opposite of what your saying.
I think Halo 5 respects the formula more so than Halo infinite because equipment takes away from equal starts. Specifcally the movement equipment. Halo 3 was the only Halo to have equipment when it comes to Halo CE - 3 so to me no equipment is more Halo than having it.
I donât think many people spent much time learning the ablities in halo 5 because it didnât get repetitive. In fact there were always levels to reach. Always new jumps to learn. Always new ways to learn. In fact I feel the opposite of you. I think that Halo infinite restricts unique senarios and creates frustrating ones. I think the ablities create unique senarios.
I think map elements shouldâve been the way to go. You know. Like making a room anti gravity or shooting something to make something fall. Dynamic map elements shouldâve been there instead of equipment.
I also think just because Sprint is the only thing you can do now it takes a lot of work to make the game around it. You can see it in the lunge. The strafe speed. The maps. All of it is effected by Sprint.
I would. Hard disagree on that one. Halo 5 is far smoother. Far more fluid. Even the Sprint is better balanced. You canât run after getting shot because your sheilds wonât Regen and itâs at a nice pace so it doesnât feel almost pointless.
There has been a lot of thought put into it. If there wasnât then movement combos wouldnât be able to be pulled off. They even marketed they game that way when they released a video of the slide thrust being a thing.
I donât think anything compares using halos momentum to get a bounce jump into a stabilize and over a ledge. Or a knee cap jump to a higher platform. There were so many technical jumps that took real skill to accomplish. If there was no thought put into it then the skill gap wouldnât be this deep. There wouldnât be this many layers to movement.
Lastly itâs fun. When I want to play a video game I want to have fun. Not play the same thing in yet another game.
that to me is not a good thing. the fact infinite doesnt need restricting mechanics like that to balance movement is a better design⌠No shields recharging while sprinting is what I consider one of the worse designs ever. It screams patch job to try and fix other issues while actuallly managing to make the game play even more janky.
All the good things you mention about halo 5 seem like happy accidents for players llke you to discover. I doubt 343 thought of all the different unique ways players would play halo 5. Im sure some thought went into halo 5âs mechanics but mostlly I dont think 343 knew what they were creating with halo 5.
Na. I think it punishes players who Sprint all the time. I see it a lot in halo infinite gameplay. So many people have the incentive just to keep running and running. A lot of ring around the Rosieâs happen. A lot of pot shotting and sprinting away happens. I think players engage less now because they can just keep sprinting. Couple that with the long reshield time a lot of people tend to hide a lot behind walls instead of finishing their battles. Not being able to run while one shot forced you to finish your battles and get to a conclusion quicker.
I think 343 knew exactly what they were doing. You can see it in the stabilize. Itâs affected by gravity. The thruster pack is also not static like in halo infinite. If they removed all the thruster elements in halo infinite like the thrust slide, then it was clear that Halo 5s movement was on purpose.
ah, someone whoâs never played CE
no use in talking to you then
I dont mind this. It allows more creativity as a team to teamshoot instead of being committed to a losing
battle or stuck in one spot trying to recover shields.
A kill shouldnt happen just because you shot a guy. you must earn the battle were you know youre guranteed a potential kill/assist or death. The problem with halo 5 was you get shot once from anywhere and it led to a whole domino effect where your whole team dies. In halo infinite, not every shot matters so a lot more teamwork is required to follow up on that domino effect that was easy in halo 5.
Or they discovered things with halo 5 that they never truly wanted in the first place and changed it in infinite.
No sprint. No AAâs at all.
Up movement speed, keep completely equal starts, everythingâs a pickup. There, problem solved. You can get as creative as you want within those parameters. Add cool maps with different environments and bring back the social features Halo used to have and youâve got yourself a winner.
Youâve never responded to any issues Iâve raised with your claims with any actual substance. Just pointing out then when your bold and obviously false claims are questioned, they fold.
And Iâve been playing CE since launch way back when. Mowed lawns for money all summer before the xbox came out to get the money
. Still play the campaign a couple times a year to this day, and itâs been in my MCC composer settings since match making composer since that feature launched.
Iâm even one of the dinoâs who played CE on the laggy beautiful time that was XBConnect, the first online Halo game play possible.
Youâre allowed to dislike Infinite, but donât just lie about the game. Itâs as good a modern coat of paint as legacy Halo has seen in a long long time, and features plenty of the same gameplay emphasis as past titles. Like spawn control, map control, and sandbox gameplay. Donât just say theyâre non existent.
Itâs tough navigating all the different opinions, but I think youâve done a good and thoughtful job with your posts here @DeadCassette
I think magnum will come back.
343 has deleted a lot of things in case their 10-year plan runs out of content later, and magnum or assassins will come back, but I donât know if they will charge for it.
I am a person who has not experienced this og glorious era and can only relive it in mcc.
So I donât really care how much this game og extent is, I think every version has its own fun, as long as itâs fun and balanced.
Infinite is definitely a huge step forward in feel, sound and physics.I think his core game is good.
But I donât like,on the play Weapons are extremely unbalanced.
Most of the maps are also very bad and boring.
The ranking system is full of holes and bugs, not to mention the absence of patterns and forge,343 says theyâre going to do e-sports, but the current version is a little less balance and a lot less fun.
After playing for almost 200 hours, I now think that if I want to play halo, I will go to MCC to play ce or Reach.
H5 has a bad reputation, so many people will be more tolerant to Infinite, because Infinite battles are better, although mediocre but basically meet each faction, make people ignore MPâs broken and unbalanced.
