THE WINTER 2016 SEASON
I played Halo 5 today for the very last time, Why? Because 343i CANNOT DEVELOP a fully functioning multiplayer ranking system. Plain and Simple. When the season reset today (depends when and where you’re reading this) I was excited, I played FFA for a little while and got ranked Diamond 4… Don’t get me wrong its a good rank, but why was this enough to set me off?
Two reasons:
Previous ranks
How I can get a higher KDA than other players, but get ranked lower?
REASON #1: MY PREVIOUS RANKS IN ARENA
For the past 4 seasons I have been getting Onyx in FFA. For the first two I barely made it past 1600 in Onyx. However, for the last two (last season specifically) seasons I have made it past 1800, and even up to 1992 last season. So as you can imagine, when I saw my rank for this season I was driven by shock and anger to uninstall Halo 5. You may be asking: Well you were close to Onyx you imbisile!!! Why didn’t you just play till you got Onyx? My answer is: I’d had enough with Halo 5 and all of the disappointment that went along with it. I had played Halo 5 for a year straight and needed it out of my life…
REASON #2: HOW CAN I GET A HIGHER KDA THAN OTHERS, BUT GET RANKED LOWER?
Before I got ranked, I looked at people who had been ranked. A certain individual had been ranked Onyx 1700. Had won once and had a 0.7 KDA in FFA. Mine remained almost exactly alike except I had a KD higher than his at 1.0 yet I get ranked Diamond 4… I had previously been ranked higher than him for the past few seasons. I was incensed and seething.
Now, I quit because of more than 1 reason. Many of that goes into Warzone… Leave your thoughts down below.

I played with my brother several times online. We both had similar rankings through team arena (usually low tier Plat) however last season I was put in gold after losing one game and having like a 8.9 KDA and he had the same amount of wins but only had a 2.4 KDA and got in Diamond 1… Lol makes sense.

My team were all onyx in arena last season. rolled with a party of 4 last night for our placement matches lost 2 of 10 games. crushing some 1700+ onyx players along the way and nothing but mid diamond players. What do we place at? plat 3/4/5. The ranking system makes no sense at all. Utter trash.
Just a guess, but maybe they lowered the placements since they’re going with longer seasons now. Those two last place finishes probably hurt you as well.

Yeah, however i did face a champion though in my placements… The ranking system is crap…

I was ranked platinum last season in team arena and slayer. I win 8 out of 10 only going negative in 1 game playing against platinums and some diamonds in arena and I get ranked gold for some reason. Sometimes I just wanna give up on this game.
You guys are complaining about placement but honestly that doesn’t bother me as much as having a rank and the system totally ignoring it. For example I played team doubles solo as a gold 4 and got paired up with plats. But the enemy team was high diamond and even onyx. Why?

I remember on my FIRST PLACEMENT GAME IN DOUBLES I went up against two Champs… Screw the ranking system.
Here’s the problem I have is got placed platinum which is fine but played some doubles and my partner wasn’t even ranked and we played multiple champions which I think is horse -Yoink-.Yes they need to do better also when some one quits out on you they should either rotate another player in or ban that person for a month.Get it fixed!!!
Damn that sucks, yeah I never found the ranking system to be too accurate when it comes to first placing. However, for me it has been consistently Gold 6 and last season I got platinum 2. It has worked fine for me but there has been way too much complaints about it which means it’s obviously not accurate for most people. Do you like this system more than H3’s 1-50? Problems I’ve seen with 1-50 was the no placement matches.

As the population declines the seasonal resets will only make almost everyone’s rank worse. That’s why I think 343 will end the resets eventually.
There are a few decent players who drop the game, but by and large the players who quit are having repeated negative experiences (aka losing). The Bronze, Silver and Gold players who get constantly mismatched and/or stomped by smurfs just quit, and why wouldn’t they? They don’t see any chance of improving through competition with similar or slightly more skilled opponents because it rarely happens. They just feel like sparring partners for the kids who spend eight to ten hours a day on the game.
Now just because the bottom half of the population leaves doesn’t mean that part of the rank distribution vanishes with them. The population needs to be redistributed among all six of the ranks every season. So now the players that are left need to be spread out. So unless you are high Onyx or Champ material start thinking of yourself as Gold or Silver because all the Gold and Silver players you used to beat during your placements are long gone. Even the highly skilled players need to go into serious sweat mode to retain their high ranks because where there were a few matches they could coast through before, now their placements are all against the much more skilled opponents still playing the game because they win a lot. Worrying about rank this far into the life of a Halo game is a losing proposition. The honeymoon is over. I predict that eventually you’ll see 343 do away with monthly placement matches to reset everyone. Now that players can drop tiers there’s really no need for it. They’ll just auto reset the Champs’ Onyx CSR to 1700 every month to give the better players a fair run at it.
It’s the same story with matchmaking. There are enough players left to get matches, just not fair ones. If there were enough players in any one playlist to effectively match skill levels 343 would be doing it, and implementing fire team preferences. They have plenty of stat data.
I got into a twitter discussion with some guy the other day that kept saying some arbitrary special K/D needed to be ranked. Like a 1.0 KD = Platinium… 1.5 KD= Diamons… 2.0 KD = Onyx. The guy just wouldnt understand that I think that system sucks but if it is true what about obj players? Not everyone is a natural slayer, so what about that person who helps the team win and gets just +2/3 a game. I think last season should be considered in your new season ranking. It is frustrating when I was Onyx 1790 in Team Arena and get placed in Platnium. There should be cutoffs. If you hit Onyx you should never drop below Diamond.
I’m usually high diamond/Onyx in Team Arena but got placed platinum 6 0%, it really depends who you play against for your placement games. It was also the first season in a while where I did all my games solo which I suppose didn’t help.

You can’t base rank off KD, I could get a 5.0 KD against gold players but a 0.1KD against champions.
I was rank onyx in swat and I don’t play swat for a day and it puts me back to unranked I carried on playing it and got my rank back but please make the play dates abit longer say a couple of days of inactiveness so we don’t keep on losing our ranks
