So, if the Infinity is not meant to wage war, why are they making Spartan IVs on it? Even if they are just for some “defense” just in case I still think regular marines and ODSTs could handle it. I see no reason for them to be spending money on new Spartans.
It’s now the most important vessel that has ever been in the UNSC fleet. It’s going to need adequate protection. They’re visiting unknown worlds, what if they find an ancient evil that needs to be stopped?

It’s like the Spirit of Fire once a colony ship now a UNSC warship used to create bases for the UNSC it would need an good defence to deal with the covenant, prototype weaponry and vehicles and some of the greatest military minds. The Infinity would need Spartans as well a large array of defences if it’s purpose was for exploration. Also with certain species of Aliens out there which would be hostile to them a defence would be need internally and externally.
