The Infinite ranking system is a joke…right?

I just watched a D6 streamer go 12:17 is Team Slayer….he lost nothing to his ranks…NOTHING!

I’ll go 8:6 at D4 and loose 30% of a level.

I can’t take this rank system seriously anymore….it’s an actual joke.

Yea it’s a flawed system. Those 12 kill must have been enough though. Your 8-6 isn’t enough kills. Game doesn’t care if you negative really, raw kills matters more. And the longer a game goes on - the more kills it expects you to have.

I can see this play out all the time with my friends. One goes like 15–18 kills per game but has 15-18 deaths also. Another goes 8-12 kills and 6-10 deaths. Guy with less kills it’s usually positive while the guy with more kills is usually slightly negative. Guy with more kills is higher.

I can see the same in my own play when we play a long game off oddball. I can put up 30-20 and still go down because the game took forever and the game wanted me to have 35+.

But at end of the day, youre both comparable. Those minor differences in csr don’t matter. Your both top 15% players.

I’m sure I’ve posted in your topics before, I’m sure I’ve also said this before but it doesn’t appear to have registered.

Individual games do not matter.

Here is a hopefully simple explanation.

Player A is rated 1,800 MMR, but their visual rank is at 1,500. When they play games the teams are balanced by MMR so using the 1,800 figure. Therefore, if they lose or even do really badly, their rank will not fall. This is because even if their MMR drops from that game, it is still well about their visual rank. They are also playing opponents beyond their rank, so while their MMR might fall a bit, they are still regularly playing well above 1,500 MMR for their MMR to be calculated so highly. Wins will give large CSR gains even if they get little kills and go negative in an individual game. The streamer is likely an Onyx level player so it’s pointless for them to lose rank in Diamond.

Player B is rated 1,600 CSR, but their hidden rank is at 1,500. Collectively their performance has worsened over time, they aren’t playing regularly enough or their rank was over inflated due to a lucky run. Maybe they were playing a lot of gametypes and maps they perform well at. But over time as all gametypes have averaged out their performance is worse than it once was. They are now being paired with players rated 1,500, not 1,600. So they aren’t even close to evidencing they belong at the higher rank when they can’t pop off every game at a lower MMR. They have won some games and their CSR is above their current performance rating. Even if they get lots of kills, they will not gain much CSR for a win. Even if they have a huge k/d in one game they lose, they will lose lots of rank. This is because their MMR is still lower than their CSR as individual performances do not matter.

If a player is losing lots of CSR for a loss it means they are not performing well enough, consistently enough for the higher rank. You are playing on average players worse than your visible rank so strong performances should be easier if you were deserving of the higher rank. If you lose large chunks of rank it means you are playing worse and worse players, so the games should be easier for you. But if they are not, they the lower rank appears to be warranted.

When you hit your “true rank” you won’t be levelling up or down as fast and you’ll bounce around your rank give or take a tier or two until you either improve at the game or get worse. The system is built to understand both options are equally possible.

If a novel has to be typed to try and explain the ranking system is an obvious sign its whack… The fact that this game doesn’t appeal to individual performance is repulsive. They want everybody to “BUY” individualism but be all the same with performance.

Its a completely trash system up and down.
I won every one of my qualifying matches while going on average 20/5 KD in each game and it gave me a gold 5 rank. I play with friends that are plat, diam, and onyx rank and I can spank them all yet I can’t get out of gold rank for whatever stupid reasons. Just like everything 343 does, they break it. . .

Yea…our ranks shouldn’t be determined by some hidden formula that’s explained on a forum outside of the game by someone who is not a developer.

Ditto! I was disconnected from a match while playing with my husband (he didn’t get booted and we are literally in the same room) they won the game so he went up and i went down to lower S5 due to disconnect. Can’t search on fireteam together now, but we were picking up unranked, silver, and golds as randoms and opponents, but don’t try to have a S5 on the fireteam, gotta try to pick them up in a search and hope you are on the same team. It’s all a load of crap!

I’m not sure you are going to get a lot of sympathy for your plight.

We’ve all seen how Onyx level players running around with Silver friends ruins the game for everyone else.

At best it creates bad match ups. Even more disruptive than what we get now. At worst it sets up your team to grind CSR at the expense of your opponent.

It’s frustrating. And I get it I can’t play with either of my sons at the moment. But I see why 343 did it. And no, I have no solution for it either.

At least we still have customs and social.

Let’s stick to this years threads.
