After Halo 5 I thought 343 would focus on balancing competitive with casual but from what I’ve seen of this flight, Infinite is way too sweaty. I generally consider BTB to be the most casual and yet it felt like a total lopsided sweat fest. In fact BTB kinda reminded me of Warzone from Halo 5. In order to put this in perspective I HATED Warzone because it was so sweaty. In comparison, Halo 4 had the best BTB because it felt so casual
whats your definition of sweat? Based on my playtime, infinites btb is anything but

It’s sweaty because I’m constantly being sniped, enemies are constantly swarming all over me as soon as I stick my head out or try to capture a zone, every gun has super low magnetism, and Vehicles are made of paper. I guess I’m basing this as being too sweaty because I can’t manage to get more than 5-7 kills in a match. I know I’m not a great player but I’m at least average in the MCC and this game makes me feel like trash. I literally raged quit earlier because the flight has been so frustrating. I’ve played maybe a dozens matches today and only won 1 or 2. I’m to the point where I’m not even enjoying the wins since I know I didn’t contribute much.
So you mean playing to win? I don’t get it.

If you don’t get it then you’re probably one of those sweaty players.
I mean people playing really intensely like their life depends on it. I’m playing to win but I’m also trying to enjoy the game, trying to explore the maps, experiment with weapons etc. It could just be a skill gap but it doesn’t feel fun at all for those of us who aren’t great at multiplayer FPS games.

i got ya. To be honest, this doesnt feel like a matter of people sweating, more that they are playing to win. Unfortunetly, seems you have been going up against people better then you so it feels bad to get stomped (I get that, its never fun to lose and def does not if you feel like you havent contributed anything). I actually think this is less sweaty then say warzone. However, in a way it is more chaotic given there are more tier 2 weapons, and even power weapons in the match.
Ive had games where ive went 20+ kills but also have had games where ive done sub 8 kills. To be honest, this is kind of a mental hurtle to get over as it entirely depends on what you find valuable. If kills are what you view as having the most value, then not getting them would def feel bad (same with dying a lot). This is easier said then done, but I would try shifting to another perspective in the context of BTB at least. As an example, my friend generally does get many kills in any pvp game. However, he feels like hes contributing when he assists me or others. So while he does still go for kills, he does so along with shifting to driving the hog, going for the loot cave and opening them for teammates, throwing his body into a cap spot to delay the cap etc.
Of course we all want to see the big win screen at the end and seeing defeat is a downer, but I think, at least when it comes to Halo, its best to shift your focus away from that to some extent. Sure you want to win, but Halo is also about making your own fun and or mini wins within a match. That could be getting grapple and spider maning about (whether you get kills is irrelevant). That could be throwing the fusion coil into a mass of players. Heck, it could just be driving an empty vehicle to kamikaze the enemy. I find Halo to be way more fun when you shift focus away from the KD and go for other things. The kills will come along naturally with it and you can make your own fun with the toys the game gives.
Anyway, I guess this was a tangent, but those are my suggestions if your getting down cause you feel like your not getting a lot of kills and therefore not contributing.
I don’t think skill-based matchmaking has been implemented for this flight and that may be why you’re getting games where you are absolutely wiping the enemy team and others where you are getting steamrolled by professional players.
I don’t know if I would call it sweaty, per se, but it’s definitely too busy. You don’t get a second to breathe, and if you stop for just a second you’re swarmed. Fragmentation felt small with 24 players on it. I think this is my biggest issue and also why I think that Behemoth feels so good. You’re not in a fight instantly and you can plan something and actually see it out. No matter where you go in BTB you’re fighting. Sneaking to the flag isn’t and option, and 343i’s focus on “zone” game modes forces all players into small spaces. Slayer felt by far the best as it allowed you to take the game at your own pace.

Yeah maybe you’re right. To be honest , I’m mostly just ranting because I’ve been playing the flight for two days and really thought I would enjoy it. Hopefully the full game will have a proper ranking system so matches aren’t so lopsided. My theory is that the flight attracts more hardcore fans, therefore more competitive and higher skilled. I like Halo but I’m not a big multiplayer person(don’t play Battlefield, COD, Apex, ect). Halo is about the only series I play online and I’m just average-slightly above average at it.
Bro I haven’t picked up a single sniper and I love the game. Maybe you just need to sweat more or something, or yoku naru.

Strongholds for me was the worst game to play as majority of the people on recharge would swarm together and be super coordinated if you were solo-queuing.
For me personally I love the chaos of Big Team just because you were just having fun in a much larger area in comparison to behemoth.

Hopefully SBMM will help to fix this a bit.
I have games where this happens to me too and it can be incredibly frustrating but luckily the majority of my games so far have been somewhat competitive and not so sweaty.
I do think Infinite does have a slightly steeper learning curve than past Halo games though. I’m not sure how casual gamers or those new to the franchise are gonna handle it.
Social Arena is way to sweaty for a casual mode, BTB can sorta get “sweaty” but that’s due to how congested the map is and gamemodes that clump people together. This might be because there’s no ranked mode currently or people are trying to get every last ounce of the tech preview, but if social arena ends up being this sweaty at release, it’ll be damaging for the casual crowd as a whole. I’ve been playing with my mates through out the preview, some have little experience with Halo, some are completely brand new, and with the amount of sweat they have encountered in matchmaking has impacted their perception of the game negatively. They just wanted to have a fun casual experience but instead they became stressed out and ultimately turned away from the game, imagine how many other new players have experienced this and felt the same. If this does become an issue at release I honestly don’t know what would be the proper solution, maybe balance the starting weapons better so they serve roles as utility weapons and not have the ability to cross-map someone or something to make the experience not so competitive. Social arena should be a mode where you can turn your brain off and relax and have fun with your friends, feeling stressed and on edge is the exact opposite feelings you should be feeling when playing a social game.

You have some good points. I’m also a little concerned about how this is going to impact new players’ perception. I’ve been playing since CE in 2006 and I’ve had plenty of other frustrating experiences with lopsided matches specifically in CE, 3, and 5. However, at the end of the day I come back because I’m emotionally invested in Halo. If 343i really wants to attract new players they are going to have to have casual modes and introduce new players without scaring them away. Because unlike me, these players aren’t already emotionally invested in the series
Seems to me “sweaty” = playing to win harder than I am.
Are we actually saying people should play to win, but not too hard? Just the right amount of trying.
I have become legitimately confused by this word.
Hard to say how it will be a release. Mostly hardcore Halo fans are insiders so it makes sense that it’s pretty intense right now
What on Earth are talking about? The only thing “sweaty” about this game is the feeling of fighting the aiming system.
Otherwise its full of RNG bloom, a brainless AR, meanwhile the weapons that don’t have excessive bloom incredibly slow and not especially difficult to use outside of aforementioned aiming weirdness. This game has a lot of problems, but being “too sweaty” is not one of them. With the exception of some grapple/repulson interactions, this has been some of the most vapid, casual Halo I’ve ever played.
I 100% agree with you and I’m exactly in the same position as you lol. Hopefully we can choose which game mode we want to queue in when the game releases, because almost every time I end up on total control or ctf and they are way too chaotic. Compared to btb in MCC, there’s too much going on for it to be enjoyable and (depending on who you get matched up with) there’s barely any coordination between you and your other 11 teammates. Also, flag and control locations sometimes feel unfair for one side compared to the other, which ended up making our team lose 0-3 in total control once. I’ve played like 12 btb games this flight and only won one of them. Though I bet it’ll be better a bit after launch, since there’s only one map right now and people of all skill levels are being matched up against each other
