Pretty much what the title says. This gun is horrendously underpowered for the range its meant for. I’ve seen this, experienced it, and had other friends duplicate my own feedback; The weapon simply doesn’t do enough damage. It is out damaged by the BR, a gun that shares the exact same ammo type as well as the Sidekick, a weapon that fires a 10mm round as opposed to the 7.62 NATO rifle round the AR fires. A sidekick will always beat an assault rifle in CQB and its getting to the point that I never use the AR and always use the pistol, even in close range engagements. Add this to the fact that the pistol can do mid and long range better than the AR and you’ll come to the same exact conclusion, that this weapon is absolutely pointless. It needs to have a higher damage output to match the BR’s in the same number of shots. Granted, if the issue is balance for the ammo types being the same yet the guns different, then the AR needs to be comparable and not completely useless. It takes 7-9 rounds from a BR to kill a target where as it sometimes takes the entire mag of an AR to do the same thing or even more if God forbid you missed one or two rounds. Its just silly. I see people complain about things like the Mangler and they don’t seem to care what so ever about the iconic weapon that this franchise was founded on. Buff the AR or make it have a larger mag. That’s the only way to make this thing viable once more. Return us to the 60 round MA5 if the damage will stay as it is. That’ll make it quite fair and actually viable in CQB
Correction: The BR apparently uses a new bullet when I could’ve sworn on my life that the ammo was universal across the board for the UNSC rifle caliber weapons. Regardless, the point still stands. It needs to have more power for a rifle round.
The AR is better than the BR at close/mid range. It has a faster ttk and doesn’t require the same level of aim- if you play ranked the AR spawns on the map and it’s a useful pickup. The pistol and AR I see as equivalents where the AR shines for a slightly worse at aiming player or scenario like right CQB while the pistol shines if used at peak efficiency which means pacing shots, not missing, and headshots. Both fill the role of a universally good weapon quite well.
The AR has a pretty beefy ammo capacity and never am I reloading it while trying to kill one guy.
The AR and pistol together are so good that they make 90% of map pickups useless imo. With both of them you can hold your ground at anything beyond long range and the current maps make avoiding long range engagements super easy.
I’ve honestly read it all now…the AR is underpowered?! Seriously WTF game are you playing if you genuinely think that? May be work on your aim and trigger technique before posting total BS like that!
It definitely doesn’t need a buff, in my opinion. I actually think it’s too accurate at range. I played a game of Attrition yesterday with just the AR, because 343 thinks it’s cool to make a challenge to get 15 kills with it🤮, and I got the challenge done in one match but at the price of my pride.
I think it all comes down to skill of the person with the SK in the fight. If they have good aim and movement they deserve to win against AR noobs. I genuinely don’t intend this to be mean, but your overall headshot accuracy is ~16%, so I’d try to work on that because Halo has always been a game that rewards precision over spraying autos.
They should make it less accurate but give it more power, to better distinguish between roles for it and the sidekick (CQB bullet hose vs mid ranged precision weapon) because currently they are overlapping really hard.
This has been argued to death but the lower the skill required to use a weapon the less powerful it should be, otherwise it means that someone that just started playing 5 minutes ago can win against someone that has played for decades and it ends creating a system without integrity. AR should be nerfed if anything.
the fact the pistol has no firerate cap makes it automatically more deadly than the ar and its frustrating, ive been in games where the entire enemy team stomps because they only use the pistol
Would like to have a second firemode like the hydra on the AR.
I thought about a grenade launcher attached on the AR that uses the grenades that you pick up.
