So we aren’t getting a perk system. That’s confirmed. What we are getting is some kind of benefit from the armor we pick out. While at first this seemed like a huge relief to me, the more I think about it, the more I realize that this has the potential to be much worse than I thought.
Whenever a game has any kind of “build” or “equipment” system, there will inevitably be one build that rules them all. There will emerge a build that out-paces any other build in ALMOST every situation. It’s the classic “Jack of all Trades; Master of None” scenario.
This wouldn’t be a problem if we had all the armor available to us from Day 1. But we won’t, because we have a progressive unlock system as well. This means that users who have played longer will have access to this build, while new players will not. The situation that almost always arises is that veteran players will spank the crap out of new players simply because they have access to this equipment.
I am worried, to say the least. We need only look back to Reach to find the exact same scenario with Armor Lock. It WAS a “Jack of All Trades; Master of None”. Halo 4s progressive unlock system coupled with bonuses based on said unlock armor will inevitably result in “One kit to rule them all”, and everyone else will be left behind.
How 343 didn’t think of this is beyond me, but I find hope in Frankie’s words that a classic experience will be present in Halo 4.
i agree with you but in this new system , i just hope certain armor pieces dont outweigh other armor abilities
I think 343i has enough common sense to make the so called “perks” balanced.
What benefits does the armor have? Is it like
Recon - 20% faster sprint
E.O.D - 25% damage resistance
I hope the armor wont make a huge difference to gameplay.
> What we are getting is some kind of benefit from the armor we pick out.
The -Yoink- do you think perks are?
What, since they’re chosen by the way you dress up your barbie instead of simply putting them into a slot its not a pathetic rip off of cod?
They are perks, no matter what 343 try to call them and they will always be a terrible rip off from a terrible game and will NOT work well in Halo.
yea i think a armor perk based system is just somthing that dosent fit. let COD have that kind of stuff they just need to try and keep things simple.

WTF?
That sort of crap DOES make a huge difference to gameplay especially when that gameplay it all about everyone starting out as equal…
…do you even know what “Jack-of-all-trades” even means!?
Not only this, but then true Spartan customization goes out the window, and everyone complains we look the exact same.
Will they, though? Will there inevitably be the one to rule them all? Can we say this for sure?
My answer is no. We’ve not even seen any of them. We don’t know what they are, let alone seen how they play. 343 aren’t a bunch of novices - they’re made up of many, many very accomplished people. They know what they’re doing. Don’t complain just because it isn’t Halo 2. If it turns out to be terrible - which I don’t think it will but let’s hypothesize - then I’ll gladly admit I was wrong, but I will only give a definitive opinion once I’ve played the game for long enough. Not more than half a year before it’s release and before I even know what this whole thing will entail.
I’m very sure that Halo 4 will have its own USAS w/Frag Rounds or Armor Lock.
I believe they will implement a system were it will only match you up with people on equal footing compared to your progression on your abilities. So, no level ones versing 50’s or whatever the highest level is.
I have a feeling we are going to get a total crysis copy a.k.a. a meh or absoulute horrible game and giving someone a higher rank an advantage only encourages more boosting and exploits meaning that bad people will look good and amazing people who don’t boost or play 24/7 will look bad
People who boost will probably become frustrated once they face someone of their equal ability level and quit. I’m sure 343 is going to adjust for this problem as well.

Yes we do not have a full knowledge but this is just warning 343 and alos we have seen the people of 343 make good game e.g. pandemic nut we don’t know if they will make a halo game so I do not know but I FEAR that halo 4 will be to much like say crysis
Halo 3 didn’t need any customization and it survived nearly 5 years with a very active userbase. Everyone started out the same in multiplayer, we had to fight for better weapons.
It was a true competition of skill since everyone was equally equipped.
In the “good” days, there were ALWAYS at least 20 people playing Halo 3 in my friendslist.
Then Reach came out. We were all hyped.
But we had to realize that it didn’t feel like Halo (for us personally).
It wasn’t a competition of skill anymore, since someone with Armor Lock would have better chances to survive that someone with - say - a jetpack.
I don’t see anyone playing Reach anymore in my list, and it only came out a year and a half ago.
I know 343 listens to the community, so I started to wonder if I’m alone with my dislike for starter kits in Halo?
If I want to play a game with classes, I go play Call of Duty, Battlefield etc.

My wording was crap but i meant i hope we dont see this in the game

LolMMORPG
There will be a Classic Game Mode in Multiplayer, I’m sure. Then we’ll see how popular it is. Customization is the the way games have evolved now. It’s expected, and selling more games is more important than pleasing the hardcore. Catering to the casuals has already been established as making good business sense.
Don’t like it, play MLG, or whatever other classic playlists they provide.
