The Incentive to win

While the hidden ranking that has been put in place can and hopefully will work in terms of matching players of similar skill, What is the real incentive to win a game of matchmaking in Halo 4?

The thrill of the game, the joy of teamwork, and dedication to do your best.

The more important question is…what do you do once you reach SR 130 and everything is unlocked? What incentive is there to win after that?

like in Reach?

Bahahahaha!

Bragging rights?

Victory Crouching?

The joy of being better?

Making a film out of it?

From what I can gather you will get a tidy little xp/credits/whatever bonus for winning, however this will most likely fail to provide proper incentive to win since you still get xp/credits/whatever when you lose anyway. You may as well save yourself the trouble of trying to win and spend the game playing selfishly.

They should do something like doubling your xp for the match when you win and halving it when you lose. I doubt they would though, because that might hurt some player’s feelings.

…yeah? Whether I’m playing Reach or 3, I’m trying to win, I’m trying to have a good time, I’m trying to enjoy the game. That’s the point of a game. I don’t care about ranking, because I’m not playing to show everyone how l337 mlg pro I am. Stuff like Gears of War, etc, I’ve never even glanced at the leaderboards - I don’t really care.

for fun?

Is everyone forgetting about Halo Waypoints stat tracking?

I concur, good sir.

When I saw the title, I was hoping this would not be a ranking system conversation. In life there are winners and losers, you decide!

So from reach, which was bland, lacked team work, and players there just to piss off others, I am supposed to expect the invisible ranking system to be good in Halo 4?

NO RANKING SYSTEM SHOWED TO BE BROKEN IN REACH SO GIVE US BACK A RANKING SYSTEM

Here is part of the Pokemon anime intro (US)

I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was

Now why can’t this be peoples ambition? Why do we have to show true skill ranks, if you need something to look at, look at stats. That is something that you can always improve.

There is no incentive, just look at halo reach. and because there is no incentive, the hidden skill based rank will not accurately gauge skill. as people try or dont try, as people screw around or dont play that skill will change accordingly. and once again like in halo reach you will have teams of randomly skilled people playing each other.

until 6 months pass and you bored of the game.

Ok, thank you for turning a relatively calm thread in which most of us were agreeing into another war zone.

Guess what? still play reach. Still not bored.

None. It is killed by join in progress alone. Then you only get some more xp on top of what your going to get for just playing the game. So I will eventually rank up anyways, so who cares.

343i GFY!

With no incentive to win, and nothing to play towards in regards to winning games, I will just continue to stat -Yoink!-, destroying every bad player in my way, thanks 343
