The hydra is so sick

Bro each update they release keeps getting me even more hyped for infinite. I absolutely love the weapon designs and especially the hydra it definitely gives me halo vibes. Who else is loving the weapons, and what do you think these new vehicles they teased are??
P.S if there’s a 343 member just reading this post I’m in love with the work on the game keep it up

I gotta be honest I don’t like this redesign. I mean, I would like to see it from another angle to make a final statement or maybe I’ll get use to it later, but it looks a bit too simple, too “barebony”, like the parts were just glued together but they don’t quite have the sense of unity like the previous design. And the skinny squared handle gives me the feeling it is going to fall apart or it can’t support the weight of the front rockets compartment.
I think it shares the same flaws of the MA40 Assault Rifle (Reach and Infinite one), which for me is the worst assault rifle design. The exposed parts, screws all over the place, uneven parts conected between large gaps that kills the iconic silhouette of the gun. It looks like there was a cover which hid all this stuff, but they removed it and now the weapon is all exposed.

Link for anyone out of the loop.

Honestly it wasn’t a weapon I expected to make a return, I’m glad it has though. Somehow managed to get it to fall into classic Halo design while keeping the same shape as Halo 5, well done to the team that designed this (if you’re a 343 member lurking here, please tell them it looks rad).
Wonder if it will be geared more towards taking down players or vehicles?

Every reason you gave for disliking it is exactly why I think it looks so cool. I love that industrial, barebones, rough design philosophy. It’s also a really good contrast with the sleek purple weapons of the covenant.

100% Agree. I saw that picture and was kind of shocked the Hydra was coming back. It was never a weapon I used all that much in Halo 5 but this new design looks sweet. It just looks right.

I’m hoping it has a some more effectiveness against vehicles. Shooting that thing against a scorpion or wraith always felt like a waste.

I imagine with no thrusters on Spartans it’ll probably be a bit better at targeting players directly too. We shall seeee.

I like the look of all the weapons except for the commando gun. It just doesn’t look “Halo” to me. It looks and acted (At least it did and the gameplay demo) something more like out of call of duty or battlefield in my opinion. Just not a fan. Hopefully that changes. Everything else looks fine so far to me.

I’d like to see a bit more color on that bad boy, but otherwise I feel it’s a good marriage of a 343-era weapon with a more “classic” looking design.

Fair enough. I like the rough look, but if the parts looked a bit better conneted together that would be fine. Must be hard to be a 343 weapon designer when everyone has a different opinion on a design lol.

Thanks for sharing that link. Agreed, looks super sick. The Hydra is one of my favorite new weapons in Halo and I’m glad it’s making a return. I love catching people off-guard with it. Effective and entertaining!

Yeah they’re nailing the concept art and designs of the game. I cant wait for new gameplay with each gun.

I think it looks awesome, way better than H5’s design.

The Hydra never had an iconic silhouette, buddy. It was one of many guns added into Halo 5, and has so far appeared in only one game. It didn’t define Halo 5, and it certainly wasn’t the most noteworthy weapon in the game.

By the way, the reason the scopes and ammo feeds are separate from the gun, is because they are slotted on an attachment rail. You know, the thing guns have. Modern ones which don’t just fall apart, because they happen to be made of metal which has approximately more strength than a wet noodle. Further, if you’re going to complain about exposed parts, and uneven parts while defending the Halo 5 Hydra, whose forward grip lazily sat under the cylinder, with a massive hole between it and the cylinder. Even worse perhaps, the grip itself (or “handle”) on the Halo 5 Hydra was even smaller than that of the Infinite one, tapering towards the top, yet with a massive protrusion at its base. Perhaps you prefer your guns to not be silver and and black, and instead think such designs are crude and look “glued together”. However, when you’re comparing such a design to a gun with an olive finish, tomato red highlights, teal accents, and nerf gun aesthetic, you don’t have much room to talk. The original Hydra was a bulbous, clumsy weapon, that suffered heavily from being over-designed, while simultaneously looking like a kit-bashed piece of trash. It was one of the ugliest weapon designs in any Halo game, barring the storm rifle.

Criticism is fine. Pretending the original Hydra was anything other than a clumsy mess of poor design decisions, coupled with a horrible paint pattern is another thing altogether.

Imo, this is just evidence that we’re going to be able to customize our weapons look, either through pure aesthetic customization, or through weapon upgrades impacting the look of the gun.

I’d imagine any functional upgrades would be absent from Arena play, and it would be aesthetic only there.

The redesign kinda looks like a halo 3 AR with a rocket system replacing the reciever

I was thinking the same. I’m guessing vehicles because they said in the inside infinite you can actually damage vehicles. In the gameplay demo, the tire got damaged or popped when they ran over the exploding grunt. This is amazing player interactivity with the environment and I can’t wait to see what other surprises they have for us.

Really love the art style for the weapon. To me it really looks like halo. Cant wait to see more of the sandbox and their design choices.

The Hydra looks like it was ripped straight out of Combat Evolved with the simple, smooth, tapered front and the gunmetal gray coloring. Simple, identifiable, perfect for what UNSC weapons should look like. I’m loving every weapon design we’ve seen so far and I can’t wait to get a closer look at the new Banished weapons.

Agreed, I love the design. It’s simple and looks just like a classic UNSC weapon. One of the biggest problems that 343 had in the past was over-designing weapons, vehicles and character models. I’m glad to see that they seem to have learned their lesson, as all of the weapons in Infinite are looking great.
