The Honeymoon phase is over

For me at least.

I had some serious real life issues come up recently and I had to stop playing for a few weeks. Now that things have settled down, and I saw there was an event for the Mk V helmet, I figured I’d jump back in.

Doing so, I’m now constantly noticing little things I ignored before I left. I mean, these are things that are baked into what Halo Infinite is.

Sprint is a lot less of an issue, but I personally am already super tired of how movement works in this game, and especially tracking targets. Everyone is constantly sprint-slide-jumping everywhere they go. Don’t get me wrong, people have constantly been doing things to make them harder to hit. This however is grating. From an aesthetics pov if nothing else, it’s just looks ridiculous, and just find myself getting annoyed. I know I could get past it, but that’s not the question I find myself asking. It’s instead: What does this add to the game? How does it make it better? Does it benefit everyone?

I just can’t get behind it.

Getting shot behind corners, ping jumping everywhere, and other network problems I don’t see in any other online game I’m playing spare on bad days. It just runs very poorly.

The Maps are boring. They feel like maps made for other games (spare the BTB ones for the most part). There’s nothing Dynamic about them. Theyre safe and unmemorable. I can’t name half of them by name, and every game feels the same. My strategy and the way I move through the map feels the same every game. So burn out has come much faster.

I don’t want to make this into a full rant post, but just wanted to give some feedback to the devs, so I’ll end on this point: The challenge system and the battle pass.

I hate battle passes, and I don’t like challenges. That said, I’ve played a lot of games with them, and this is the first time one has ever made me not want to play the game. Personally, I always felt battlepasses/challenges were the sign of a weak game.

To me it looks like “our game isn’t fun enough on its own, so here’s some superficial reason to keep playing”. So here comes Halo infinite. I just wanted the Mk V helmet. However I get challenges, that I don’t get game types for. Thankfully, because I don’t interact with the battlepass/challenge system I had 20ish swaps to use. However it gives me a pistol challenge. (I’ve only gotten the game type twice) so I use swaps to get something achievable. Do it. Then there are no more challenges. I realize I can’t progress, remember the other stuff that annoys me, and then realize I don’t want to actually play the game. I was here for a reward I can’t get. So I turned it off.

This has never happened to me in a Halo game before. You’ve made aspects of it so medicore and annoying that I’d rather play something else when I can’t do the challenges that I was doing for a superficial reward.

For me the honeymoon phase was over. When this game came out, I was so in to it. Got as many people as I could in. Now no one is playing it, and frankly, I won’t be either.

For me the game will “live” or “die” based on what shape its in by S2. I didnt expect much by way of major changes prior to the launch of S2, but hand in hand with that I’m expecting most of the major and prevalent issues the game currently faces to be rectified.

The microtransactions/progression side of life doesn’t really hurt me as I’m not one of those people that tie such things into gameplay, but the technical issues and limited maps and playlists NEED to be addressed to keep anyone around.

I don’t know exactly what’s going on within the company, but if they can’t get their own issues sorted out, how can anyone expect the game to get sorted out?

There is a post on this forum trending now about Staten saying “keep the feedback coming”. The thing is, we shouldn’t have to be given them any feedback telling them how to fix their game, because 343 has had over a decade and if they can’t figure things out by now? it time for them to hang it up.

Halo was deliberately sabotaged for the sake of a buck. I can’t and won’t support any company that puts their greed ahead of everything. 343 literally destroyed Halo.

I’m having difficulty getting back into it with Elden Ring out. I just want to play that instead as the event really hasn’t captured my attention whatsoever.

Same. I uninstalled infinite a couple of weeks ago but i still check back in from time to time to see if its worth reinstalling. The event is definitely not enough, though. No amount of cosmetics will be. This game needs stability and content and it still doesnt have either. Game is still uninstalled at this time. Idc if the mk v helmet returned just for an event. Cosmetics will never be enough.

mate don’t bother reinstalling it, the MKV helmet will probably come back at some point in one way or another.

It’s been over for a while

A little over a year ago I was on these forums saying if x y and z were not ready then the entire game should be delayed becuase clearly the game in its totality was not ready.

I was mocked and told foolishly and ego driven that “the game should not be delayed for parts of it so few people play”
They were so blind in “I don’t use x so its unfair to me to delay the game” that they didn’t actualy understand what I was saying

Which was if x y z are not ready then its fair to assume a b c are also either not ready or not polished

fouth months later…here we are

Honeymoon period ended for me early in January. I pushed to finish the premium battle pass because I had paid for it anyway, but haven’t played it since.

I’ve got Elden Ring sitting here, a backlog of Game Pass games I have yet to play, a backlog of both Switch and PlayStation games I need to get to, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands coming next week. Why would I want to go back to the incomplete, buggy, frustrating mess that is Halo Infinite? Without co-op there’s no compelling reason to play the campaign again and multiplayer, as you say, is unremarkable with most of the maps being the same bland three-route design with slightly different decor. I’ve got no Forge to mess around in, no Firefight to break the monotony, no UNSC ranks to earn, and the only thing we have to look forward to is a paltry two additional maps?

Meh. I’ve got better things to do with my time. Especially since 343i seems so very slow to respond to issues that have been plaguing this game since it launched as a “beta” pre-release back in November.

I remember everyone even a few of my friends who only ever play COD getting interested with Infinite saying Halo was back, until we all realized the game is lacking severely and has only gotten worse from then

100%. It just really kills me. They got so much closer than they had in a decade that I was like “yeah, there we go!” Then realized all the flaw and incomplete/janky parts and it became something I couldn’t “unsee”.

Unironically I hope the game really does die during Season 2, enough to make Microsoft and 343 panic, to where they go full throttle into desperately trying to change the game to be more like past Halo games. You’re right. 1000 matches and I still don’t remember any of the map names. They’re all generic “3 lane with a middle split” arena maps that feel and play the same. Please 343 bring back Halo 3 and Reach style maps. Give us some maps with a ton of vertical height for grapple and grav lifts. This game feels hardly Halo at all. I have never played a single Halo game I disliked, until now. I genuinely enjoyed even 4 and 5 multiplayer. Even the campaign was… tolerable. Not Halo Infinite.

Halo Infinite just isn’t Halo.

Sorry to say this but 343 doesn’t even care… they probably don’t even read these posts. I mean we have community managers getting paid and they barley talk to the community! I really need that job! Make a boring unrelated post every Friday but get paid for 40hrs a week!

We all know you’ll be back for season 2

Honeymoon…. I like those two words put together.
Honey is awesome
The Moon is awesome
So it’s like double the awesome : )

Well the honymoon is over but now lets see how Halo Infinite and 343i get along with each other

Halo Infinite? More like Halo Finite!!!

I also just want it to die. 6 years plus a $500 million budget, all going to waste because the end product is the absolute worst Halo game, one that does NOT even feel like Halo whatsoever? What a joke! I already lost faith in the AAA gaming industry and this is proof of that.

I haven’t even finished the first battle pass. I’m only at like … what, lvl 40? Battle passes are of no interest to me. It was polished fun gameplay. That was what kept me playing for a decade.
