In halo evolution there is a passage that talks about a special group of elites with red energy swords? who are these guys?
Special Operations Sangheili, presuming that you are referring to Headhunters. There is also a motion comic adaption of the short story that can be found in YouTube if you’re interested in a visual depiction of the Short Story.

A lot of rumors popped up around these guys. Ranging from Ancient Sangheili, to entire possible spin offs in the universe, Overall it is an unanswered question that only leaves in possibility.
Wonder if they have anything to do with the Banished. They have a similar red colour scheme, y’know?
Their equipment would designate them as Special Operations. Energy Swords are known to be able to take the form of a wide range of colour, so don’t be too confused about them not being blue.
I wouldn’t think they have anything to do with The Banished; not with the Commanders particularly pious persona.
I kind of wish there was a spin off game where you played as the Covenant they are so interesting and well done, they deserve their own game in my opinion
I heard they’re in Halo 5 too though. But i have never seen them.

So long as they don’t do like Arbie in H2 and make you use lesser tech than those around you. It would be cool if you could pick your Covie based on difficulty. If you want to play on Legendary you play as a Grunt with no mask. Easy you play as a Hunter with plasma cannon and shield.

Playing as Grunt with no mask would be impossible, you literally would not be able to go anywhere for more than a minute or two.
The simplest and most effective would just be to make the player character an Elite, while it’s an interesting idea to include different races, from a game developing standpoint that sounds like a nightmare, you would have to tool the entire game differently for each race.
Hopefully one day we can get a spin-off game, or maybe even a dlc if 343 ever decides to break the mold, where we play as a member of the Swords of Sanghelios or maybe even a Covenant member.

Indeed. Imagine going up against a squad of those Elites in campaign.

Halo: Reach’s Spec Ops Sangheili have a noticeable resemblance to these particular Sangheili, especially with the armour and their chameleon like plating. The only really noticeable difference is the head gear and the colour of the energy sword (which isn’t THAT big of a deal. Thel has an orange sword, and there have been cases of purple and teal like swords).

The Ravening Silver and Vorpal Talon just to name two examples. There was also the Halo 2 energy sword.
It was a special squad of Special Operations Sangheili, their task was to hunt down the “Headhunter” Spartan squads.
They wore special customized armor as you could see and were one of the unique unit squads in the Covenant.
Mistake me if I am not correct but the Sangheili commander mentioned that he and his unit already killed other Headhunters.
