Alright guys, if in Halo 4 we have big maps like Forge World or even bigger, I have the perfect aircraft idea.
The Heliphant. A flying elephant. It would be similar to the elephant, but there would be more room in it. Turrets would be on the outside, maybe a mounted missle pod or two, and vehicle on it, like a warthog. It would fly very slow, about maybe twice as fast as the elephant.
It would also be the spawning base for your team, and the team can go from there. Pick a ride, mount the turrets, lay down some fire with a mid range weapon, maybe grab a sniper from the map and jetpack up to heliphant.
Could also be a forgeable piece unlike the elephant.
I’d love this! Except there’d have to be no holes in it so there would be a roof and walls on it so you can’t fall off it in mid flight. Also the pilot would have the ability to open the back hangar door so he could open that while he’s about to land in preparation for a warthog driving in. That would be cool. There’d be a hatch on the top as well so that it could be boarded.

Well, nothing, really. The heliphant/flytanic/etc…would be indestructible like the elephant. (Because it’s the team base, and the offensive players in it can die easily.)
Only thing I could foresee happening is the warthog getting a bit of damage, however if fall damage is in Halo 4, well, the team mates maaaay get pissed.

Yeah I posted in that thread as well, I saw your discussion about an air unit based off of the Elephant so I mention the Vulture from Halo Wars and again in this thread.
Rather than them being pilot-able, which might be nightmarish to program and wouldn’t really create that dynamic of a scenario, the map should consist of a red warship and a blue warship both flying an elliptic path around a central tower, along with some ruins along the bottom of the tower.
The tower has man cannons that aim at the ships when they’re close enough, and players can ride them and be blasted onto the deck of one of the ships.
Each ship also has a tractor beam coming out of the bottom of it, and players below ground can ride the tractor beam into the ship (or if they’re in their own base, drop down and the beam will slow their descent). Each ship would have a mannable machine turret (that can’t be ripped off) on the left and a mannable missile pod (that also can’t be ripped off) on the right, and a cargo bay with two hornets. Each base would also have a grenade launcher spawn.
Various weapons like snipers, a plasma launcher, etc. would in various locations below ground or in the tower.
I think this could be a lot of fun. Control of the central tower would be pivotal in mounting an offensive against the enemy, but also control of the ground would be useful as players could sneak into the enemies ship and sabotage their defenses from within.

I think it would make more sense if you stopped flying it it just goes into hover mode.
> Oh my god. Water elephants. Pirate battles. Oh. My. Jesus.
…
Air elephants are already like water elephants, only better. I don’t see the point, especially I don’t see the point of the UNSC producing an aquatic vehicle.
