But the Precursors are tied to the origins of the Flood. It would probably play out like Gears 5 where, yes, everything they tell you was in the lore already regarding the Locust origins, but in game it plays out from the characters perspective as a reveal that drives the story forward. For the Chief, learning the Flood are this cursed abomination spawned from the sins of the Forerunners would be a reveal for a typical player.
In particular revealing the extent of the threat posed by the Flood. They’re not just this Thing parasite but have all the knowledge of this Elder species and their secrets.
It just feels too coincidental for another species to have been locked away on Zeta Halo. Plus, I d seriously question how another species would have been able to take down Cortana in the Domain. If Exuberant Witness and the Warden couldn’t then why would a species defeated by the Forerunners have the secrets or know how to deal with her?

We don’t know the whole situation though. Did the Harbinger take down Cortana? Maybe they did or maybe Cortana is just hiding out and seeing what happens. The only one who suggests Cortana was deleted is the Weapon, but she seems just as much out of the loop as everyone else.
With Infinite having to deal with the fallout from Halo 5 while also introducing the Banished as a major threat for fans who didn’t play HW2 as well as introducing the Harbinger and their forces, trying to tie in the deeper history of the Precursors and Flood is a lot to chew for a game meant to be a start for brand new people as much as a continuation for long time players. Far as I can tell, the Flood don’t look like they’ll factor in much to the story. I could be wrong, but 343’s juggling a lot of plates thus far.
If I had to take a wild guess, I would assume the Harbinger to be one of the tried and failed plans against the Flood. Alpha Halo had the Thanolekgolo. Gamma Halo had the Composer. The Halos could be storage for the failed plans meant to be learned from as well as the means to stop the Flood. That’s just speculation on my part.
My main point is that we should be a bit realistic about what Infinite will tackle in the short term. They could circle back and tackle the Precursors and Flood origins down the line, but I do not see it happening if the brief view we got into that subject in Halo 4 was enough to frustrate most fans.

I think the objection in Halo 4 was more due to the space magic presentation of the Librarian and Chief getting the upgrade that made him immune to the Composer. People weren’t opposed to more background on the Flood. In general people are fairly favourable about the Prometheans being an anti flood weapon of last resort.
We’ve been told something has happened to Cortana and we see a crashed Guardian. There’s also this new anti Forerunner elder species thing walking. It’s a real smoking gun here. If Cortana, the Guardians and the Created were just on the sidelines they would have followed the model in Halo Wars 2 and not acknowledge them at all and create plot device reasons why they wouldn’t interfere. However instead we’re being told there’s been a Murder on the Domain. It would be odd to turn around and say, “oh yeah, still on Earth on that Rogue Servitor playthrough”. The Weapons confusion confirms that it wasn’t the UNSC that did it and I am sceptical the Banished have the know how.
Yeah it’s going to focus on Eshcarum and the Banished but there an option on this very website for Halo Infinite campaigns and they’ve said it’s the next ten years of Halo. Why not, hint at that looming threat?
If they want to introduce new players to the franchise then the Flood/Precursors are central to the narrative. They are why the rings were built in the first place. So having the Harbinger be tethered to them would be an easier sell than another contender to the Mantle.

I don’t know what happenend with the created but I do have the feeling that this campaign will primarly focuss on the banished and maybe cortana goals and have the flood and precursors mentioned or talked about in possibly terminals. With that the ending of the become campaign could tease more about the precursors for the next campaign.

Or Cortana’s supposed disappearance and the crashed Guardian could be red herrings. We just don’t know. And you are right, Infinite is billed as a 10 year experience, so there really is no reason to jump into the deep lore waters in Year 1. If they do, I can’t say I’d complain. But I just don’t think it’s realistic this early in the game.

It was heavily implied the primordial was made up of human corpses.
Its confirmed he was a grave mind and not simply a precursor.
Now my hope is they return to the concept in halo 3 that we are forerunner and just make it so we are an offshoot of the first race and the precursors but after the betrayal by the forerunners we lost our cultural memory so when humanity emerges in orion it was actually the return of precursors.
SPerhaps the mantle was never being passed on at all and that was the reason for war with the forerunners that ended precursor reign.
Thats a fan theory but yeah I hope harbinger is something new and super mysterious we dont know about from outside orion and connected to bastion and the reclamation of the forerunners.

It is not confirmed who’s Geas Chief has.
Ancient humans are dead, Harbinger is not composed. She is organic.
No, she has nothing in relation to San’Shyuum, ancient or current, and Prelates.
