The Halo vs. COD Conundrum

Since there so many threads saying Halo is trying to be like COD, I thought I might pose the opposing point of view’s question. Is COD trying to be more like Halo?.. I believe the answer is yes.

With COD Advanced Warfare and Black Op 3, they are trying to become more futuristic; be like Halo. They have introduced their suits that allow them to be like Master Chief. Regardless of who added certain features to their game first, COD is clearly trying to be more futuristic, more Halo-like.

Furthermore, games produced by Activision are all cash grabs, they create huge development teams and release an updated version every year. So I don’t believe any argument that states that COD added a similar aspect before Halo is relevant. They add a few things every year and charge you $60, plus $40 for DLC, and repeat every year.

343 took the time to develop a great game and added things that make Master Chief finally feel like a genetically altered super human in an ability enhancing armor suit, and they did it at the appropriate time.

Halo tried to be like COD in Halo 4, 343 really went too far to appeals to those guys, whereas this time they went just about the right distance

C.O.D. is definitely trying to be like Halo. We got Advanced Warfare last year, now B.O. 3 which is another future game.

And we all saw how Ghosts got received, reception-wise, didn’t we?

Halo always feels just right to me. Any other shooter I play I always have at least one huge issue with, because it’s never the halo experience I guess you could say. I’ve tried to play a bunch like cod, far cry, battlefield, rainbow 6, and a hell of a lot more that I can’t think of off the top of my head and I just can’t get into them. Multiplayer to me always seems half -Yoinked!-, the gameplay is always awkward, and it just doesn’t feel right to me. I always find myself playing the one game over and over again and that’s halo.

COD is trying to be like loads of games taking cool things from other games but COD isn’t the only one doing it.

Here is some thing funny though my friends loves COD but hates Halo but now he is hating all the things COD is doing and he is like Halo 5 is alright.

It’s because the customers are finally realizing that each new COD game is just a re-skin of the previous one.

Assassin’s Creed is following that same path, and I love that series. It’s why I didn’t buy Syndicate.

How about…neither?

Lol @ CoD trying to be like Halo. People are kidding themselves. How does CoD, in any way, try to be like Halo? Someone please explain it to me, cause I don’t see it. CoD has always been CoD.

Because it takes place like 50 years in the future! Duuuuuuh!

Advanced Warfare had thrusters and a jet pack. BO3 has an even more Halo-like jet pack and has the melee system that has been around since Halo 3. Also, future.

They’re setting it in the future and they’re also giving the soldiers advanced exo-skeletons that heighten their abilities, one of which are booster packs which are basically thrusters from Halo 4 except in 1st person. They also changed the standard melee from stabbing your knife to hitting the enemy with the butt of your gun. And at this point they’re ripping off Titanfall as well by implementing wall-running and a double jump/jetpack.

Aside from recharging health I don’t see how CoD has ever tried to be like Halo. Even the new mechanics brought in by Advanced Warfare don’t really resemble Halo in the slightest.

However, it’s pretty clear how Halo tried to be like CoD with its own adaptation of perks, killstreaks, and etc, in Halo 4 and Halo 5’s Warzone mode.

All I have to say is that having enjoyed both franchises for what they are I have seen that 343i has tried to sneak in some minor aspects of CoD. Gameplay had accelerated in terms of how close opposing players spawn together for one thing. Spawnkilling started becoming very ripe with Halo 4.

Halo 4 also had weapon drops for killstreaks and such. Halo 5 cooled down a lot with all that nonsense.

I don’t think either game is trying to be like either game

Halo tried to be like CoD in Halo 4.
CoD is trying to be like Titanfall in AW/BO3.

Halo didn’t invent supersoldiers in power armor, so COD isn’t trying to be like Halo at all.

becoming more futuristic isn’t a good comparison. If that’s the case, both are just copying Unreal Tournament.

That is literally the DUMBEST argument I’ve EVER seen. Just because an FPS is set in the future (Only 50 years, as opposed to Halo’s 500 years), and they nerf the melee to two hits, it’s copying Halo?
No, exo suits have nothing to do with Halo. So that doesn’t count in the slightest. In fact, Activision patented the exo-suit mechanics in 2009, before even REACH came out with abilities.
CoD literally took nothing from Halo.
Black Ops 3 was in development for years now; there’s literally 0% chance they took any ideas from titanfall. If you understand game development at all.

Yet, it’s quite obvious that Halo has taken MANY ideas from other shooters since 343i took over.
