The Halo Sandbox and the Classic Shotgun

After seeing many different opinions about the lack of the classic shotgun in Halo Infinite, I am quite confused by certain POVs.

  1. A large percentage of people have “countered” the shotgun’s disappearance by reminding everyone that the Assault Rifle was not present in Halo 2 and that this is nothing new.
  • I don’t understand how this is a valid counter argument, considering that there was no “Halo Legacy” to live up to at the release of Halo 2. By that, I mean there was not a decade’s worth of consistency to refer to when making Halo CE’s sequel.
  • The shotgun, on the other hand, HAS nearly two decades of legacy. People loved that shotgun, dude. They had been using it in every Halo game.
  1. There is a new shotgun that fills the exact same role.
  • This is not remotely true. From the mere glimpse of gameplay we saw with the Bulldog, we can see that it has its own unique role. The Bulldog took two shells to kill one grunt at close range, whereas the shotgun would have only needed one shell. I am also inclined to think that the Bulldog would be more viable than the shotgun at mid range.
  1. 343 did this with the rocket launcher already.
  • No, they did not. The rocket launcher got a make over and functioned the same.

Closing statement:
I am confused as to why they are not ADDING to the Halo sandbox. To me, it seems like they are trading old for new in unnecessary places. If Halo Infinite is truly releasing without the classic shotgun, then the campaign is going to be missing out on a beloved piece of the Halo sandbox experience.
