The Halo "infinity" armory

I’ve got to say, I love the new armor in Halo. We’ve got returning classics and new takes on old favorites along with an entire platoon of brand new designs. I’m just hoping that Halo 5 and 6 retain this armory and add to it. There’s nothing worse than having your favorite armor (Mark V) vanish from one game to another. I’m truly hoping that the infinity simulation that’s going to take place over this trilogy keeps the same variants and simply adds upon it with the power of the Xbox One instead of removing and reimagining every time.

So do you want to see a recurring armory or do you want entirely new sets each game?

If there’s enough disc space, bring them all back, if not then the fan favourites from prior games like ODST, Recon, Mark V, Mark VI, etc.

Of course I’d love to see some new armour too, we can’t just have a new game consisting of classic armour, I want some new classics!

I dont see why they cant just bring all of them back for the next installment. I really want the security helmet back I miss it a lot

I like a lot of the older armor better. The newer armor has so many details that they are no longer distinct from one another. If they simplified the armor, it would look much better. Take Halo 3’s armor for example. You can clearly tell each of the chest and shoulder pieces apart. Look at Halo 4. A lot of them are the same shape, just slightly skewed or different sizes. I also liked Reach’s attachments instead of completely different armors.

I thought Security was left out for the same reason Hayabusa was, Security was based on Marathon and Bungie still owns that. Or that’s my understanding at least.

Disc space is always a huge factor. Unless they want to make the game have a patch on day one with new armours, then we’re always going to be limited by it.

I’m always going to prefer more content that improves the gameplay rather than cosmetic items that have no effect on the game. If there comes a time were they need to choose between gametypes/maps and armour, I’d want them to choose gametypes/maps.

I’m thinking that since they’l be using Bluray this time around, they’ll have plenty of space. Especially if they do the two disc thing like they did with Halo 4.

I like the armor, but there is very little to separate me from my peers.

First off the chest pieces all seem the same for the most part. There are very small variations to them. There isn’t enough flare to them. In Reach, I was able to name some of the variants. In H4, there are a few permutations that stick out, but I still have problems differentiating one from another.

Everything else was fine (shoulders, legs, arms) but I LOVE the helmets. I love how they made some very hard to get by linking them to commendations. I’ve only seen a handful of people using the Commando helmet (unlocked through Dominion wins). I’m proud to say I have it. Making helmets harder to get makes them that much better to unlock and wear.

I felt like the Credit system in Reach(with some tweaks to award better players and the winning team) was perfect. It presented players with having to make decisions on what they wanted to use instead of unlocking the variant by leveling up. You would then really see what players prefer to wear instead of having them use the brand new armor the unlocked with the last level up.

Final note, GIVE ME MASTER CHIEF’S H4 ARMOR. -Yoink- is too sweet.

I think the chest plates stand out quite a bit, I can pick one out in mid-battle no issue. I just wish SKINS stood out more… What’s the point of unlocking skins if most gametypes just neuter your creativity by reverting your secondary colors?

That being said I’d love to see attachments come back, those were fun just to add to finish off a look. Just better ones, the attachments in Reach were kind of tacked on.

Oh and as far as the Chief’s armor, I’d hope we could get one that’s not battle damaged!

I personally think the UNSC should have Katana in it’s arsenal to counter the energy sword. Please use up the disk space!

i like the actual armor and chest pieces. most look pretty good but man…those helmets 0_o

I like Reach’s armor attachments over Halo 4’s skins. The attachments stood out more, even during quick gameplay.

Reach and 3 looked better

I agree with the new armor selection variety. I do prefer attachment over skin permutation though.

I wonder if a lot of the new armor was disc locked on the second disc, and that’s why the diggers didn’t find it, because they were using disc 1 as a dig site.

Some of the armor in Halo 4 looks more like something I’d expect in a Japanese anime than something I’d expect a cyborg to wear.

I like the sci-fi look of Master Chief a lot more than the space fantasy look of FOTUS and Raider.

I agree with this completely. I look back at the armour in Reach, and I see that it’s all simple in design, which is what I love about it. Each different piece of armour stands out as being unique, functional and interesting. The armour in Halo 4, however, is super far-fetched and cluttered with unneeded details. Simple is often better, just like in the case of armours.

In future Halo games, I think that 343i should tone it back with the clutter and take a good long look at what Bungie gave us with Halo 3 and Reach. They did a great job with Master Chief’s new armour, since it fits in with previous aesthetics, as well as some sets like Recruit and Warrior, but for the most part, they just went too far.

The skins don’t help much other. In other Halo games, the secondary colours were placed sparingly and tastefully, creating a nice-looking, clean Spartan. In Halo 4, our armours have big random lines of colour that just look messy. This adds a ton of other unneeded detail, making our Spartans just look like chaotic blobs. Not appealing in the least bit.

A few H4 armor sets are decent but their poor design means most times the only way you can distinguish one piece from the other is by way of the skin. Overall I’d call H4’s armory the weakest yet.

Halo 5 should have all the classics from CE through to 4. Plus armor effects + add ons like the katana or medpack or whatever. 343 should make it so on-disc space isn’t an issue… just make it all downloadable.

PS - the armory should have better commendation tie-ins. Perfection nets you a pair of forearms? Extraction nets you nothing? A bit more thought into the rank/commendation/armor unlock could go a long way.
