The Halo 5 Magnum

As you all know, there’s a pretty large controversy surrounding the Magnum in Halo 5. Some say it’s too over powered, some say it needs a buff. This is my opinion on the Magnum.

So, I personally love the Magnum, and I think it should remain the way it is. Sure, the BR, DMR, Carbine, or Light rifle usually beat it at medium range, it still stands a change against them. And at close quarters, the Assault Rifle, Storm Rifle, and SMG usually wins a dual, it still stands a good chance against them. The Magnum is a jack of all trades, which makes up for its low rate of fire, and lack of damage.

Atleast for me, in past Halo Slayer games with AR and Magnum starts, I find myself immediately huffin it down to the nearest precision rifle spawn. Usually those who govern the precision rifles, win the game. But with the greatly increased range, the Magnum stands a real good chance against the rifles. Though I’d grab a BR over the Magnum any day, I won’t feel lost if i don’t manage to grab one. In past Halo games, the Magnum was more of a close quarters weapon, so having two close quarters guns against a guy with a mid range weapon doesn’t end well unless you’re right in his face. But with the Halo 5 Magnum, right off spawn you have a decent close to mid range chance. I think the range of the Magnum balances out the lack of range for the Assault Rifle.

So yes, I love the Magnum. But this is all my opinion. What do you guys think?

The pistol seems real hit or miss for me. There’s days where I can use it to good effect, and others I’m better off throwing rocks. While I would love a buff on those days where I could use the help, I realize it would just allow those better than me to melt my face all the faster. An issue I do seem to be having though is shots not registering, I’ve put shots on an AFK player only for him to eat one or two shots more than they should for that particular weapon. You mentioned the BR, how good are you with it? I can’t get used to its cadence. The three round burst is waaay to tight, and I think the audio cue for it screws me up more than the individual rounds.

Uh uh. I know what you’re thinking.

“Did he fire six shots or only five?”

Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself.

But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you’ve gotta ask yourself one question:

“Do I feel lucky?”

Well, do ya, punk?

Pistol is perfect where it is
Strong enough to defend long range from BR’s and strong enough to defend short range from auto’s but not strong enough that you keep it for a full match, I still find myself picking up a BR DMR Carbine, LR when I find one to replace it
And this is how the pistol should be

I completely agree. And I know this sounds cocky, but I think I’m pretty good with the BR. But yes, it’s very tight. I remember when I first saw game play for this game I thought it was single shot.

I completely agree! I hope 343 keeps it the same. It’s a perfect gun.

Indeed brutha man.

Pistol is good where it’s at.

I’m one of the people who think it needs a buff in relation to the rest of the sandbox. The reality is: players are not being rewarded enough for sticking with the magnum. It demands the most skill, yet is at a disadvantage against pretty much every map pickup . . . even weapons that aren’t fought over and instead are chilling near a spawn point uncontested (BR, DMR, Storm Rifle, etc). Even the AR, a spray weapon, has an identical TTK to the magnum (~1.2s) yet it is much, much easier to handle. The TTK gap and skill gap don’t match up, and that’s a problem. In Halo, there has always been a relationship between a weapon’s TTK and its skill gap (power weapons being the exception), but in Halo 5, that relationship seems to be blurred and distorted.

Let me add: the magnum loses/trades against the AR at mid range much too often. The AR performs too well outside of its niche. I have even melted a players’ shields in seconds by pinging him from long range using ADS.

Hard to aim with, but definitely agree on it’s power/range.
