I don’t have very many complaints about Halo 4. I know it was 343’s first game and they tried very hard on it. However if I could truly hope for one big change from Halo 4 to Halo 5 it would be for a better “Feel” of the game during gameplay. Something more like Halo 3 or even Reach. I’m not talking about extras like sprint, or loadouts, or packages. Those things I’m fine with. I’m talking about how the game feels when you play it, the core gameplay. If you know what I’m talking about than you will know every Halo was different in this aspect. But they all still felt like Halo, and they all still felt good. Halo 4 was the worst in my opinion, I know they tried but I imagine this is a difficult thing to get down. So for Halo 5 I’m hoping for a much more classic feel to it like Halo 3 or even Reach, or something that atleast feels a little more Halo than 4 did, but obviously with all the things that are new to halo such as sprint and customizable loudouts. So please 343, if you know what I’m trying to say, please aim for that!
EDIT: I’m not talking about playlists. Just how it feels when you control your spartan, when you play. Bullet magnetism may have some to do with what I’m trying to explain but playlists certainly do not. I’m talking perspective, view, your player movement, aiming, reticule, that kind of stuff. How it feels to control your spartan… If that makes sense. If you switch between games you may understand what I’m trying to say here.
If anyone feels like they know what I’m trying to say and think they can say it better, please do! Some proper clarification is needed.
Edit #2: I think you guys are trying to hard to pin what I am trying to explain to one thing. When really I think it is a combination of thing that creates the feeling of shooting, moving, ect that I am trying to describe. I think FOV might have something to do with it, as well as proportions, and some of the things you guys said. But Yeah that point was for a hope that Halo 5 feel like 3 or 2 or Reach or a combination of such, while retaining all the new features.
I agree, it felt like part of its identity was missing. Like there was an even more empty void as compared to even Reach. It was essentially Reach on steroids imo.
People say, " why not have them make a classic playlist for you." That didn’t bode to well in Halo 4, but was more well received in Reach since sprint wasn’t everywhere. I say in order for this game to be close to successful, the base gameplay needs to focus on core competitive gameplay. The majority of slayer and objective playlists must include much less randomness and include more basics of halo. I felt like everything I played in Halo 4 had something different or changed later or sooner.
Nothing felt really organized to me. A playlist would have PO, then no PO , then one with this weapon or this spawn or type. They need to scrap fiesta ordnance, bring descope, return AAs and power ups to pick ups, I don’t see sprint leaving now so no comment. Set static spawns and bultshot as power weapon. Decrease bullet magnetism and just get rid of hybrid LR. Return classic objective gametypes, and it will fill more like halo. Oh n no pp or p nades in loudouts. Get rid of jet pack once and for all…
I didn’t really mean playlists actually. I meant the feel of the game when you play it. Not necessarily all of what you were talking about. I don’t know if I really explained what I was trying to say quite right, but then again what I’m trying to say is very hard to explain. Very hard. But I meant the way it feels when you play it, the feel of playing it. You switch between game maybe you’ll be able to understand what I’m trying to say. But yes this does have a lot to do with Halo’s identity and I felt that you were right in saying that that was missing in Halo 4.
I get you basically saying it doesn’t feel like halo. So are you talking about the physics of the game. Like movement speed, movement momentum, floaty feeling when you jump with jump height and all? If it’s something like a reticule that bothers you too, than it’s safe to say that every other thing I mentioned also would have an effect on the “feel.”
It seems like your talking about everything that doesn’t feel or look like halo, which includes the changes I described.

Basically nothing you’ve mentioned has anything to do with that.
I think maybe it’s a combination of the sprint/walk dynamic and the tons of aim assist/bullet magnetism that’s bugging OP, but to be honest I’m not sure what he’s talking about either.

Guys, I’m sorry I can’t explain it any better. Honestly I am. I guess physics might be a good way to describe what I’m trying to say. I’m talking about how you feel as the Spartan playing. In the perspective, physics, and movement in aiming a walking. The way Halo 3 or Reach feels like when your playing. Like I said when you switch between the games you might understand better what I’m trying to say. I think you guys partially understand what I’m trying to say which I suppose is good enough. But I don’t want to say you fully understand because this feel can be achieved without changing all of those things. Maybe anyways. But Halo 4 did feel like Halo, but it wasn’t as well done as the rest. Saying it didn’t or did feel like Halo is too broad… Each game felt different, yet the same… So yeah… I’m hoping for a better feel to Halo 5… The best way I can describe it is the “feel” of the game…
I completely understand what you are talking about OP, something just feels missing when playing Halo 4. It’s like when you eat fake branded or real branded food, sometimes they can taste really similar, but there’s just a little something missing and it’s hard to put your finger on what it is.
I think the reason many on here do not understand is that they struggle to deal with human emotion (lol) and are always looking for a completely obvious explanation such as bullet magnetism etc.
I can’t put my finger on what it is but it’s different. It could be something to do with movement but actually that combined with the new look of the game? I think the two don’t match up well.
The OP is discussing the pacing and physics from game to game.
Reach had heavy gravity, while Halo 3’s movement was significantly slower and floaty.
While Halo 4 has slippery strafe instead of a crisp one like Halo CE.

It’s not the new look of the game. But I’m glad you understand!
Each game has had their own feel, I think it all has to do with the different physics and graphic engines.
It’s not just the feel of moving and shooting in first person. Think about the feel of driving vehicles and highjacking vehicles, think about everything you can do when controlling your spartan. Every Halo has felt different.
Even killing enemies in campaign has felt very different with each game (except ODST since it had the same engine as H3).
I think overall H3 has had the best “feel” in terms of movement physics, colliding particles and general feel of everything being part of the same enviroment… if any of that makes sense. IMO H3s engine just made everything feel smooth and elegant if you know what I mean. Banshee and Ghost handling was perfect aswell as the look of their explosions when the blew up. It’s the little things like that that made it feel good.
Reach had best ragdoll physics and felt most satisfying when killing people or covenant in campaign. When I think about it Reach felt good in many aspects but there were just little things that ruined it which I won’t go into.
H4 was ok but something did feel off. The spartans in MP looking like they’re made of plastic and rubber comes to mind. Also shooting the covenant aliens felt the worst out of all the Halo games, although I did love the Prometheans.
There are so many different things that contribute to the “feel”. I’m hoping that H5 has a feeling of H1, H3 and Reach combined made perfect.
I get what your saying, I started playing H3 the other day and nearly burst into tears, it just felt so GOOD, the movement the graphics everything.
I think it has a lot to do with the scale of things, Spartans in halo 4 are so tiny compared to the other games, have you seen the size of mongooses? there huge!
sprint has a lot to do with it to, try not sprinting it makes it feel so much more like classic halo.
oh ya and of course the graphics are BLINDINGLY shiny! try turning the brightness way down.
Slightly off topic, Does anyone feel like the reticule is less “sticky”?

I’m glad you understand too. The reticule is a lot different but I don’t know what you mean about “sticky”.
