The Halo 4 Jackal

Since we have gotten a bitter picture on the Jackal I thought, why not make a thread with a poll so we can see what people think about it.

Best picture of the Jackal this far:
Jackal

In my opinion it doesn’t look like a Jackal.
Jackals used to be birdlike with big eyes and a bit slimmer. Halo 3 Jackal

As you can see their mouth is more like a bird beak and not like a piranha mouth or something. They also have a more brown skin and not beige.

So what do you guys on Waypoint think about the new Jackal?

You already know my answer

It looks pointlessly menacing and different.

This particular breed of Jackal looks fine.

> This particular breed of Jackal looks fine.

There’s nothing saying this is a different breed. We have to assume it’s the same breed, just pointlessly redesigned based on other things that have been redesigned without consideration. Saying it’s a different breed is a secondary assumption without any reason to believe so.

I like the new look Covenant they actually look kind of scary, which every other Halo failed at.

I wish they’d designed it a bit closer to home, but that’s not to say these don’t look good.

If they use the “subspecies” excuse again, I’d be fine with it. Considering the diversity of the human species during the time of the Forerunners, I’d be surprised if there weren’t more subs introduced of other races.

The Covenant species are not suppose to be dim-witted monsters. The Covenant aren’t very bright, but they’re not mindless beasts as these look to be.

I guess you can assume it was changed needlessly if you absolutely have to have something to endlessly complain about. No one has imagination anymore. Why the hell can’t it be a different species of Jackal? We already know for a fact there are at least TWO different types of Jackals already so why can’t there be a third? People need something to complain about I guess.

Looks like a Jackal. I don’t look at it confused, having no idea what it is. It’s obvious.

What’s the problem?

I like the new one, but i would like to see the old ones 2, it gives you feel of multiple societies that live on their planet, I think you have too look at it this way.

The fact is, we have African people, muscler people, asian people and more, they all look different, so why cant there be multiple races on a different planet?

People who claim that they never should have changed dont think of that kind of facts. These jackels have a large neck its something new.
They look different from their skirimish brothers, they look different from their jackel brothers from the Halo Array campaign. Does it even matter? The way i see it, anyone who dislikes these new Elite / jackel / grunts are just racist.

^^ Nah joking. but think of it.

We will see how it effects, well anything. (dont really think so)

Piece out

I dunno, I thought the Brutes in Reach were terrifying, and the Elites weren’t puppies either.

I do think Jackals should look vicious, though. They’re basically one of the worst species besides the Brutes behavior-wise, just not as smart. A beastlike appearance would fit them.

You mean by gameplay?
And yes, they are normal aliens with a mind of their own. They are no Grubs from Gears, they are no mindless zombie killing machines, neither are they CoD campaign AI.

What people fail to see is the complexity of the Convanant and their deep story. As well in game as in the books.

All races have their own view of the universe and the convanant.

I think story wise, i have no complaints about bungie and 343 so far.

Aw they look so cute, I wish I could hug one of them.

To people saying we have to assume they are a sub-specie or something like that,
we don’t want assume things about Halo because Bungie were so good at explaining everything in their Halo universe. If someone questioned something there was an answer to why it was like that. There were never any cheap–Yoink- explanations like the damn nanobots in the Chief’s suit. They’ve never been there why would they be there now when 343 make the game? There is a lot of thing 343 have to explain before I can think Halo is a “Halo-game”. Because the explanations are what is making the Halo universe so believable. In my mind there is a possibility for that universe as Bungie explained it. But this far 343 have not been that good at explaining why they have added some things and why they have changed some things. That destroys the whole feeling with an alive universe like Halo’s.

To me the Jaw looks cool, but the neck ruins it, but only because it looks fat and frog-like.

So far, this is the only covenant reimagination i’ve had any sort of problem with.

It’s obviously a Jackal, its not like they them unrecognizable. I actually quite like 343i version of the covenant. They look more menacing than previous iterations. I mean its not like they’ve reinvented them, they’ve just re-imagined them. and whos to say they aren’t a different race, it would be nice to see some diversity within the covenant instead of just different armour.

I don’t care about it’s appearance. all I care is how tough it will be to take down

I just think the head and the neck are too thick.

looks fine, maybe the head is bigger for easier headshots, i know 343i announced designing enemies over and over to make sure headshots were possible.
