The Halo 4 Experiment

Personally, I believe Halo 4 should, in a way, be an experiment for how multiplayer should be formatted in the future.

Halo 4 should have a Classic playlist that allows players to play with no Armor Abilities (or, just using certain ones as pickups). This, along with a newer revamped playlist which includes AA’s would give 343 a good idea of how many players would rather play Classic than this newer style of Halo.

For example, if Halo 4 comes out and the standard playlists are largely populated, we know people enjoy the additions to the game. On the other hand, if everyone migrates to the Classic lists, we realize that players prefer the game without the additions.

It’s not a lot of work to make playlists that are bare bones, and we will likely see a Classic list, or multiple Classic lists, but I really think that doing this is the perfect way to see which direction is the right one for Halo to move in.

Classic playlist should be a 4v4 playlist called “Team Hardcore” and it should have:

  • Playlist-specific ranking system.
  • No armor abilities off-spawn whatsoever. Maybe pick-ups on map.
  • Very few custom load-outs.
  • No ordinance drops.
  • Decent Arena-style maps.

I personally think it should be under a menu like in Halo 3 and Reach matchmaking, for example - ‘Competitive’, ‘Co-operative’, but this time, have a ‘Classic’ with about three or four playlists on it.

Classic Slayer.
Classic BTB.
Classic Objective. (??)

And then the other one switches around from time to time.

That’d make me satisfied anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

Why not just call it Team classic. There’s nothing hardcore about it XD)))

Plus, it would be more ammo for “Halo iz CoD.”

It’s been confirmed that classic playlists are available from the start.

Entices more people to play it. Team Classic sounds boring. That’s all.

If 343 has learned anything from Reach it will definitely be to give themselves a lot of Dials and buttons to fine tune all the playlist. I could easily see a classic playlist as being possible, however I see it as being unlikely until sometime after launch.

Agreed, I’m also hoping there isn’t a play list called “Team Slayer”. I swear people just choose team slayer, subconsciously, just because that’s what they played in past games, I would really love to see the stats between a “team slayer classic” and “team slayer” playlist in terms of users and user response as long as they are named differently.

So you think is just a big and over-inflated beta test for Halo 5? Not on my watch. This is going to be a full released title, not a trial version.

Already will be a classic playlist. It won’t tell you though whether people like the classic Halo or the new Halo.

08’ kid confirmed, Team Hardcore was what the “MLG playlist” was called in H2 before they changed the name in H3.

OT: Classic playlists will be less popular than Infinity and such because social players will flock to infinity because its easier for them to be average at. Still, Classic playlists should be with the settings above I agree, only I would implement the traditional PW system on 30 second/1 min timers instead of the ridiculous 2/3 min timers in later Halo games to create a more dynamic game.

Not everyone had live back then, so don’t go confirming anything just yet. I think the majority of my H2 experieces were LAN, which was fun with friends n all. I didn’t play that much online. I honestly don’t remember a team hardcore playlist.

Not quite sure what an "08’ “kid” is, (I started playing Halo when Halo PC came out) but as Mambaa said, not all people had live back then, and even if it was called “Hardcore” in Halo 2, I don’t care. It would still cause people to say that Halo stole it from CoD. Guaranteed. If you’ve been on these boards long enough, you’ll know this.

If it’s filled to the brim right off the bat, that means that competitive players are stubborn, and aren’t giving the new gametypes a chance. Plus, you have no idea how the population of the lists is going to work, so I’m not sure how you talk like you can predict the future.

Basically, what my thread is getting at is the fact that if people really wanted the Classic play style back, they would all move to Classic, leaving the newer lists with low population. This, in turn, would probably cause 343 to realize that people don’t want to play with the additions. Of course, this is all theoretical as I obviously don’t know how evenly they will be divided.

Myself? I’ll probably be playing both styles as it is always a good change of pace. I find myself playing Anniversary gametypes in Reach when I’m looking for a change.

Wasn’t the classic gametype in Reach removed due to low population?

> Wasn’t the classic gametype in Reach removed due to low population?

Not sure if it was removed, but it sure had a low population.

I think that’s a great idea. One thing I noticed with Reach is that I didn’t like armor abilities but need armor lock at times to protect myself from being killed by overpowered grenades. But now that I have noticed they are more balanced, I would rather there be no armor abilities.

Ah come on, you’ll play the default game types. If days of forum going promoting “Classic Halo” didn’t stop me from succumbing to “Innovation”, than I’ll give you a day after release before you stop playing the classic playlists.

On another note, I think the new way of Halo can be fine if done properly. I’m just hoping it’s all balanced, and there’s no Type 95 or MP& Overpoweredness. If that’s a word. (Spellcheck says it isn’t)
