Do you think we will see Chief in some sort of mental conflict from failing Cortana like in Halo 3,
when he felt bad about leaving Cortana on the infested high charity with the gravemind?
I think there will indefinitely be some sort of internal conflict with Chief. Considering the AI he knew for years, which he saw die at some point and presumed her to be dead, turned against him and Humanity after entering the Domain, I say its no doubt he’s already in some sort of internal turmoil. Nonetheless, I would like to see that mental conflict grow in Chief’s character throughout Infinite, like there being a “I don’t want to do this but I have to” kind of deal for him.

I dunno. We’re fast-forwarding three years in which a lot has obviously happened. In the trailer he seems pretty resolute. “We need to fight.” Maybe he’s pissed off? Lol

That definitely something I considered. That said, maybe him being resolute could be due to whatever happened to the ring in the trailer. Like, for example:
He was fighting on the ring with the UNSC against the Created for some thing; maybe even control of the ring. Whatever the case, the battle is getting severe and it all ends in some hectic explosion due to either something the UNSC did(Infinity blowing up maybe) or something the Created did (Guardian collision?), resulting in the ring’s destruction and the loss of many UNSC assets. All of a sudden he wakes up in some Pelican with a deserted pilot and finally gets a look of the aftermath of the battle. At that point, wouldn’t be surprised if he was like “Alright, now you’ve done it”, lol
Ever the case, thats just an example/idea of what could’ve happened.

You’re up to something there! Personally I think maybe an important character could have been killed of like Sgt. Johnson was in Halo 3 in the control room!
Edit: Since Sgt. Johnson was a close friend of Chief from HCE to H3, I think 343I is going to go in the same direction as Bungie did an use a character that has been created by them and been most appreciated by the fans. In this case: Lasky.

Could be interesting if they killed Lasky off to stoke up Chief.
@Max, I definitely love the idea of an “Alright, you’ve had it,” Chief hahaha

i could see this happening…the question is will he be able to save her or not… im thinking no
I hope Halo: Infinite carries on the idea of Chief’s humanity that started in Halo 4. It wasn’t present in Halo 5, and him going back to a blank slate was jarring. Especially since he was essentially with his family (Fred, Kelly, and Linda).
I’ve been very mixed about how hard and inconsistent 343i has been about leaning into John’s struggle with his long-repressed sense of humanity. It isn’t a bad idea for a narratively interesting source of drama, internal and amidst other characters he interacts with, but as I say it seems to me like they’ve been really all over the place with their implementation and portrayal of it in Halo 4 and 5.
At this point it’s a bit of a catch 22- it’ll feel inconsistent with some of what has come before no matter what they choose to do with his character this time around. Io personally tend to prefer Chief when he’s got his mission blinders on, and is hellbent on succeeding against overwhelming odds. He really brought that calm, deliberate and deadly sense of efficiency in the original Halo trilogy, and I’m encouraged by his one liner, “No, We need to fight,” since it sounds like something he would’ve said in any of the original trilogy games in response to any character’s suggestion of retreat.
That’s not to say 343 can’t deliver a satisfying resolution to the Cortana plot- Halo 3 featured a powerful and resonant showing of Chief and Cortana’s unique connection without going quite as far off into the mush weeds as Halo 4 did, and I found its portrayal of their partnership better than Halo 4’s overall. It could be a really cool reversal if Cortana expects John to behave more sentimentally as he did in Halo 4 just for him to take her down, adhering to his original portrayal as the supersoldier who accomplishes the impossible mission to save humanity, regardless of his personal feelings on the matter.
