The Halo 2 Easter Egg You've Never Seen Before

Okay so I use to play the heck out of Halo 2 when I was a child. Despite the fact that I probably played for months before I even got past the first level, I loved playing it, and would pretty much just run around in that first level doing dumb stuff.

I played Halo 2 on my original xbox, with the original game. When I was a kid I remember finding this strange level. I couldn’t beat it, neither could my brother or my dad, so I restarted on the first level and was never able to go back again.

I have searched for this easter egg or level or bug or whatever it is multiple times over the past 7 or so years to see if anybody has identified it or talked about it besides me. I have not seen this discussed anywhere. So I’m going to break the silence on this matter(hopefully) with this post. With my above description, of course I have no evidence and nothing to actually show you, so I’m sorry if you needed that, I’m hoping that Bungie can confirm this as not my imagination.

Okay. The easter egg. I came across this, I remember, by playing around on the first level, in the first area where you meet enemies. There are pods on the side of the room. I’m fairly certain it was these pods that I was jumping around on (by the way I might be getting memories mixed up, so I’m not certain this is how I started the easter egg) and somehow this all started. I also remember being in a level selection menu where I saw a picture of the map from the second level. I did not know this was the same picture from the second level in the level selection menu at the time of this happening, as I had not yet unlocked the second level. So of course I’m like, “oh, what’s this?” and I selected it. I don’t think I was played a cutscene, I think the level just loaded up and I was in what appeared to be the second level. Again, I didn’t know it was the second level. Anyways, there was nobody up in the crash zone like there is in the second level. I heard Johnson yelling at me to get down there, so I walked down and he said something along the lines of “alright, boys, let’s show the chief how it’s done” or “alright boys, let’s do this”, something like that. Then he told the chief to do it. By it I’m referring to a good 20 hunters appearing all over that initial street area and getting destroyed by the marines. So yeah, the chief was expected to kill 20 or so hunters all attacking him at once, and the marines did not help, neither were they attacked from what I remember. So you can see why I could never beat the level.

That’s my story. If you had a similar experience, please tell me about it. I really want to know that this isn’t some weird figment of my imagination. So yeah if you have seen this, if you haven’t but would like to try to find it on your original xbox, which I don’t have anymore neither do I have my game, and if you’re a bungie employee or worked on Halo 2 please tell me if this is completely false or if this actually could be a thing that happened.
Thank you!!

I’ll have to check out this glitch, Halo has many secrets.

Never heard of this but it sounds pretty cool. Might load up Halo 2 on my OG Xbox and see if I can make it happen.

Edit: Since you’re talking about playing it on Halo 2 as a child, this topic might be more suitable in the Halo Reach and Legacy Halo forum. Also, I tried to load it up and my OG Xbox tray is now stuck so I’ll have to work on it before I can try.

Very interesting, but I never really came across anything like that when I played

yeah, I realized there’s a legacy halo forum after I posted. I reported my post but it hasn’t been moved yet

Not a huge deal, just for future reference more than anything. I really hope I can get this trick you are talking about to work it seems exciting.

Depending on your Xbox’s revision, there may be a small hole on the faceplate near the disc drive. Put a paperclip in it to manually eject the drive. Else, you can try pressing eject and then slapping the top over the disc drive lightly to get it to open. Once it’s open, unplug the Xbox from the wall so you can take out and clean the drive’s belt. A little soap and water, put it back in (dry of course), and then you should be good to go.

Okay I’ve scoured the internet looking for this sort of secret mission within the first mission. You’re correct! I can not find this easter egg anywhere. I would much love to watch it in action though! I no longer have my original xbox, my father sold it once i made the switch to PC so if you could for my sanity record your findings for you tube and message me the link as to avoid forum disaster, (a lot of work but it’d be humbly appreciated.) Then I will buy you a some donut for your troubles!
