So there is a lot of arguing and controversy going on throughout the community right due to one thing. One feature that some people think doesn’t matter but other people would say is game changing. You all know what it is. Sprint. Now it would seem that a lot of the conflict doesn’t come from the discussion itself but more so how each side looks at the other. Here’s the thing, we all love Halo, and sometimes we get a little… defensive. Which is good! except when we start going at each others throats. To the people defending sprint, those who think sprint needs to go are just a bunch of haters. Some old, nostalgic, hard -Yoinks!- that can’t accept change. To those opposed to sprint, the people who think it’s okay are just a bunch of little 343 fanboys -Yoink–riding 343 and not understanding how sprint affects the game. Now we all know those statements aren’t completely true. Emphasis on “aren’t completely true”. The statements do hold some amount of truth. A lot of the people defending sprint are just fanboys or don’t really understand how much sprint effects the game and those opposed to sprint are often times just nostalgic fans who don’t like change. Personally, I used to totally be on the sprint side. I thought it made sense for super soldiers to be able to sprint and it made the game feel more immersive. I’d fight anyone who’d dare challenge the use of sprint. Bu that was during Reach and Halo 4. Then I started playing a lot of Halo 3 and started playing more competitively. I then understood all the backlash from the community. Sprint and competitive Halo don’t go together. It changes everything. The maps and the gameplay are effected by sprint. I found a great post in the forums about how sprint changes things. https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/6e35355aecdf4fd0acdaee3cc4156fd4/topics/why-sprint-doesn-t-belong-in-halo/782e9ad6-7d54-41fb-82bb-2c14d5276e07/posts Now for you who didn’t read it the article goes into how the developers must make adjustments to maps and core gameplay to accommodate for sprint. What this means is that Halo maps aren’t made for sprint. Truth is the H5 remake of H2 midship. Truth is much larger because if you had sprint in midship, you’d be across the map within seconds. SO the made the maps larger. Sprinting from one side too the other in Truth is just about the same amount of time as it would taketo walk across midship. Map control is no longer important either because it’s easy to run up and grab power weapon and run out. CSGO, arguably the most competitive FPS game out there, doesn’t have sprint. This is because it isn’t a competitive feature, it’s for immersion. So, how do you make an immersive game with sprint but still have a good competitive game. You take it out of the competitive arena. I love having it in Warzone and Campaign, because those are immersive kind of game modes. A good way to do this is have a Classic playlist like how some of the modern Call Of Duty games have. So no sprint, thruster packs, Spartan charge, any of it. But you also have it in there for those who like it. WIll it divide the player base? Yes. But it’ll be more inviting to older fans so there’s possible customers there. This doesn’t even have to be an immediate change, something that they can d in the next Halo. So there you have it folks, sorry if the read stops making sense at some point I got kinda bored. Leave your ideas down below and try and keep it civilized.
I think sprint is fine. Games change and I think it brings a new level of strategy to the game. When you sprint you lose the ability to start shooting right away when you see someone that’s too far to spartan charge. Of course it’s frustrating to have someone who’s “one shot” and they sprint around the corner but hey that’s the game. Are you gonna sprint around the corner and get punched in the face or are you gonna rethink your strategy? I think it’s fine and doesn’t need to be changed. Just my two cents
Sprint is here to stay, now and for future halo games whether if you like it, or not. You have a couple choices, accept it and move on, or just play another game if you don’t like it.
Jeez, all it takes is one sprint thread to come up, then a million more threads about sprint pop up. Then it dies out for like two weeks, then it repeats itself…
We don’t need yet another sprint thread; especially when it references one of the other active threads within the wall of text. Please use one of the current existing ones.
Thanks.
