As the title indicates, I’m interested in what you think about the changes 343 is making to the game. There is still much we don’t know about the game, but from what we’ve seen so far, what do you think?
What are some of the good changes? What are some of the bad changes? And what changes are so bad that you just say to yourself, “Halo Reach”!
Feel free to add some GREAT changes as well. It’s your opinion, and feel free to argue your statements or just provide a list.
Agreed, hitscan is one of my favorite aspects of Halo 4 with the many precision weapons.
> Reach: Jetpack
I’m the number 1 jetpack hater, but from what I’ve seen in the PAX gameplay, 343 has fixed this gamebreaking element of Halo Reach.
Rather than flying 300feet in the air for what seems to be an infinite amount of time, the jet pack pretty much allows you to fly up by one level. Lasting about 2 seconds from what I can remember, It wouldn’t even be able to fly from S1 to S2 on the pit in Halo 3.

I have to say, I agree with all the above.
I have yet to really know how Spartan Ops and the mm/cannon thing will play out, but they definitely don’t seem like bad ideas.
And the release date, I have to agree here. Even though I don’t know much about the marketing side of this decision, I just don’t see how it can be a good idea.

Well that ‘exclusive armour’, it’s not. That is the default armour, you’re getting an exclusive SKIN for that armour.
You know how strider and scanner helmets come with the War Games Map Pass? You think you get those with the LE? No. You get the War Games Map Pass. But you don’t get the strider or scanner helmet. Only people who buy the War Games Map Pass off of the marketplace get those.
Early access to specializations? Lol. Some retailers get to use that as an pre-order incentive for the standard edition. You still get it in the LE, but it’s not like LE users are the only ones that get it.
-Making Covenant weapons viable in the player’s hand
-Spartan Ops as an episodic Campaign after release
-Custom weapon loadouts
-default Sprint with balancing changes
-enhanced forge UI
-Halo 2 style main menu UI
-Faster paced gameplay
-Beefier vehicles
-Waypoints on power weapons
-Bleedthrough
-Enhanced enemy AI
-Longer campaign missions
-Removal of Sword Block and Armor Lock
Unfavorable changes:
-Random ordnance
-AAs instead of neutral equipment
-‘hexagonal’ graphics on the screen when player is shot
-Not having some traditional gametypes on launch
-Similar sounding audio
Completely odd changes:
-Personal ordnance
-Tactical packages and support upgrades
-Specializations
Game still looks great and I like most of the changes, but there are some real head-scratchers in there.
Will these maps be ready on day 1? Then why don’t they just include them in the game. It’s stuff like this that resets my loyalty to a company back down to zero.
Similar to the Capcom decision, which provided post lauch DLC, which was actaully already on the Disk.
In fairness, I believe that good games like Halo deserve to be priced more than other games, or worst games priced lower than the normal 59$. However, making us pay to get extra content that could ship with the game is frustrating.
campaign (the art style alone will keep me playing it, also, long campaign missions, reasonably improved enemy AI in that 343 deliberately wanted to avoid Crawlers feeling like Drones, new enemies)
story (it’s not just about Chief. As shown by the box art, it’s about Requiem, as well as the UNSC and Covie forces occupying it, both of which eclipse Chief. And of course, it’s about Cortana)
sidearms are being treated better (faster animations)
Bad:
armor selection apparently takes up a chunk of resources (343 can’t add Mark V armor). If there are 2 discs, 1 for campaign and 1 for mp, then this is not really a problem for me
Covies seem mostly unchanged in behavior besides a few noticeable changes (Jackals try to dive from grenades, Covies don’t seem to do the same stumbling animation when they get shot, Rangers seem better at combat)
Reach wasn’t bad. I can say Halo Wars and ODST were bad. Not Reach.
EDIT: Well, It WAS a prequel, and I hate prequels. So I’ll admit Reach wasn’t good.
