The Ghost's ROF, AR's horrid design

Why does the Ghost still fire PAINFULLY slow bolts? Wouldn’t it be more satisfying to use if the ROF was Halo 2’s speed, but with balanced damage rates?

It’s the same deal with the AR. Shooting rapidly is inherently more fun than a slow automatic ROF, which is why the CE AR is most of everyone’s favorite; that high ROF makes the gun FEEL powerful, even if it’s artificial. It’s part of what makes CE so satisfying.

Speaking of the AR, thirty-two rounds is an abomination for canon’s sake, and for gameplay’s sake. The gun is robbed of its full satisfaction of use due to the low clip and ROF. And come on, 343i, we’ve already had THREE games with this inexplicably badly designed weapon. Enough is enough, change it for Halo 5. Even if its damage is boosted in Halo 4, it still doesn’t reach the satisfying feeling of firing Halo CE’s counterpart.

It bugs me that frustrating things like the painful ROF of weapons and vehicles seem to be thoughtlessly carried over from past games. Even if it works decently, I’d much rather try something different that works equally as well, or perhaps better. In this case, change for the sake of change is good.

  1. ammo count doesn’t change cannon. The human covenant war was going on for so long by halo 3 that they were scarce for ammo and it makes sense that it’s at 32 to conserve ammo.

  2. it’s not painfully slow, it’s meant to keep the ghost from becoming an overpowered vehicle, you can always splatter opponents

  3. another reason why the AR has a 32 clip so people don’t become a walking tank. you have enough to drop someone’s shields and do a little damage to their health, not to kill someone then go kill another person in one clip.

This is what everyone wants, for the sandbox to be balanced and this is what has to happen in order to keep the sandbox balanced. If you don’t like the way the ghost or the AR feels then feel free to not use them.

also, the 60 round AR had jamming problems in cannon, another reason to shorten the clip

and just so you know, you CAN get a kill with the AR

yea, depending on how many shots you land on him, but you don’t have enough ammo to kill one guy then kill another in one clip

i’m fine with that also long as you don’t need to be 1 inch behind him in order to kill him

yea, it should be medium to short range

Well, in the longbow gameplay I saw the AR used rather effectively out to medium range, so I think AR is probably fine (if you run out of ammo you can just headshot them with the magnum assuming the reason you chose the AR isn’t because you can’t aim).

I’m more worried about the storm rifle. Ive seen it a few times and it seemed rather strong in close, but I keep hearing people say it fires paper bullets…

yea, but plasma weapons have always been more effective on shields but i guess we’ll find out, hopefully 343i makes it similar to the AR as damage is concerned

Going by that logic, Ideally (my opinion) the time to kill would be similar, but perhaps the range, RoF, and accuracy would be a bit different (so they aren’t clones of each other), and where as the storm rifle would rapidly strip shields and then drain the health slower, the AR would take a little longer to down the shields, but would reduce the health really quick.

But in the end the effective kill time needs to be close enough that the choice is a matter of preference rather than a matter of practicality. I don’t think anyone wants to be forced into picking one gun, and from the recent gameplay the only gun that really seems to be getting shafted (no one uses it) at the moment is the storm rifle.

yeah i agree, i like how OP hasn’t responded yet

Sometimes canon isn’t balanced. You know what I’m sayin’ OP?
