Change radar back, enemies should always appear regardless if they are running or walking
The weapons part is a you problem, the ravager can be really op if you use it right, plasma pistol is used to drain peoples shields then get a quick head shot on them, commando just gotta shoot in bursts or auto in close range, disrupter I would say is mainly for vehicles.
EDIT, i agree also with this:
I hope 343i can fix all that problems, it would improve the game a lot.
It’s true, Infinite isn’t as great as people like to claim it is. It’s not terrible, but needs serious work. What I’m most concerned about is the aiming mechanics on both inputs, and general weapon balance.
Aiming just doesn’t feel good whether I use an Xbox controller or a mouse (On Xbox, I don’t have a PC that can play it). Default aiming settings on controller are borderline unusable,
And the way 343 went about altering weapons made a lot of them feel plain bad. The Assault Rifle is now a magdump weapon up close, like in Reach, because it received a straight damage nerf. A tiny rate of fire reduction would have been better, combined with a tiny bloom increase nerf to keep it from being too good at range and encroaching on Commando territory. The Ravager was over-nerfed to a 3 burst kill, 2 bursts should be fine due to the fact you are very likely to miss a few shots in real gameplay. The Commando was given a damage nerf when it should have been given a tiny rate of fire nerf, which would also help reduce bloom and recoil by a tiny bit, making slower than the flights, but also making it more user friendly.
And then there’s recoil on top of the things I mentioned above, which just makes aiming feel even worse in a movement based shooter where you have to consistently track rapidly moving targets for a significant amount of time. Recoil has always been a terrible solution in Halo.
It’s aggravating to wait on the sidelines to see how 343 will change the game. Maybe my ideas are terrible and something else would be better? I’ll never really know because we can’t actually communicate with 343.
My main concern is the gameplay, and I agree, it’s not as good as it could be. The weapons, radar, and movement speed stick out the most to me.
Some weapons are too difficult to use, like the Commando’s recoil or the Pulse Carbine’s low accuracy. It feels like I’m fighting the weapons themselves as much as I am other players. Makes me wish I had a DMR or Covenant Carbine instead.
18 meters is too short of a range for the radar. Most of the time, I don’t know if an enemy is approaching from the sides or behind until they start shooting at me, and that makes it feel a bit more like a twitch shooter to me.
And movement, namely strafing. It doesn’t feels as smooth as it had felt in previous titles. Which amplifies the previous problem with the radar. I get shot, and I can’t strafe to dodge as effectively. It might be that I’m not used to Infinite just yet, but still.
I think Infinite would be a lot more enjoyable if they prioritized these. Buff most of the weapons, increase radar range, and quicken strafe speed. I also hope we might get some more weapons down the line. Not weapon variants like what Halo 5 did, but bringing back missing weapons.
Look - as someone who geniunly loved Halo 5 Multiplayer due it was the first Halo MP since Halo 2 where i invested so much time into it, i’ve to tell you this:
I’d personally argue, Gameseries face at some point a issue, which is - what direction do you take? You have many pathways to choose from(or even create one) and follow that direction. Also - the way it is received (goes for Fans as well) might also differ from one to another because everyone sees something different in a series and prioritizing something different(that’s why - to give you a example, as someone who started playing Battlefield with 1942 all the way back, still find 2042 great/fun to play, because for me personally Classes aren’t the most defining features in a Battlefield, but that again is a different topic to give you an insight what i mean), that’s why since Reach the Community is pretty split on, goes for me personally as well, because since Reach we lost something versus the OG Triology which i liked about it. And Reach was the thing which 343i followed since than, enhancing loadouts etc etc.
Halo 5 however was the Game, which tried - on the same “road” / “direction” as Reach/4 - re-capture some stuff from the classics, but still go this hugely modernized road. That’s why i enjoyed the Game, because it fixed some flaws which Reach and 4 had for me, but even with that, they still missed somewhat the Mark.
Halo Infinite however feels differently. I don’t know what exactly happened, maybe it was they working on Master Chief Collection to realize some stuff, but Halo Infinite feels like: “Look we tried with 4 and 5, but now let’s go back to the basics, build on what Halo 3 did left” - And that’s the thing, it’s not a modern, somewhat different type of Halo trying to reproducing what Halo 3 did, but rather is creating a new Halo 3 - but modernize it. It’s like going back to the pathway of Halo 3 and instead of going the Halo Reach sidepath direction, go straight forward and evolve what made the OG Games so great.
It’s the Fundamentals which Infinite absolutely nail it, and why People praise it so much. Because that’s stuff which hardly can be fixed after a Game is released, but stuff like Content, Mode and Forge can be… if you find it lacking. Because maybe it’s only me (i don’t want to say might not a OG Veteran as well, because it’s possible), stuff like that aren’t for me even that important, i come from the OG Halo 1+2 era, esp. if you didn’t have Halo 2 Mappack Disc at first, you hardly had any content as well. I might need to relook how much it was at release, but weapons, gimmicks and stuff was quite a few, same goes for Map. And back than i never heard anyone complain about to few content. Of course you were happy if new stuff did come, but as long as the fundamentals nail it, it simply works. That’s why Mobas (especially at release) work with a single map and a small roster, that’s why BattleRoyal work with singlemaps and stuff.
Would it be cool to have more Modes, Maps, Weapons for Sandbox, Forge (and heck i want so much to have a firefight mode): YES, absolutely. But i wouldn’t downplay that as “gameplay isn’t as good as people say”, atleast for the wider approach, because People praise it for the Fundamentals.
Not meaning that you can’t feel different about that and share your opinion what you miss about it etc… but please don’t downplay other peoples opinion about that.
Strafing definitely feels off in Infinite. It also messes with aiming because you can reverse direction faster than before. It looks and feels janky. Regardless of input, everyone is missing a bit more than they were in past games. Infinite is still a bit too high strung. And that would be fine if this was a different franchise, instead of Halo that was always a bit on the laid back side of things.
I think for a start the foundation of the game is actually the best its been for along time, as good as h3 tbh without the janky hit boxes.
It just needs some love in areas, like hit reg, dysnc, some weapons being pulled up to par with others and ofc more game modes, forge ext.
for me biggest issues right now are melee and lunge not working half the time…
Im really enjoying the game so far, its so close to being one of the best mp halos.
As i may not agree with everything in the post, for example, I actually really enjoy the feel of the commando rifle. But I’d say that this post is perfect for actually summing up everything wrong/missing in the game in general.
I’d like to add another issue. This is how you’d get shot through walls, and how your last shot of a br won’t register…or even seem to leave the chamber
huh?? discounting turrets, infinite has 22 weapons + 4 grenade types. that’s more than what we got in reach and 3, and its a far more diverse roster than 4 and 5’s.
IMO the issue isn’t how big the sandbox is, it’s what is IN the sandbox that makes it so bad
that wall thing is really starting to P me off it happens to me at least once every match, I’m really starting to think this game is peer to peer instead of on dedicated servers
You say 343 halo like current bungie would do it better. Have you seen what’s happening with destiny? THATS money hungry but low radar enough to steal that cash from customers.
This is beyond ridiculous there are 22 weapons in the sandbox it’s launching with more than halo 3.
Never said anything about Bungie in my post but since you brought them up at least they came out with three legendary halo games that have stood the test of time. Yeah they absolutely changed and haven’t pumped out a good game since halo 3. You can’t say 343 had one good halo game, in fact they have all had population plummets well within six months. Never played Destiny but you do realize it is possible for two gaming developers to both suck? It doesn’t have to be one or the other.
An exaggeration, fair, but I wouldn’t call it “beyond ridiculous”, we do have a very small sandbox, about level with Reach, but bare in mind reach had no forerunner weaponry, so specifically the unsc/ covenant equivalent sandbox is smaller.
So let’s look at what we’ve actually gained/lost from the last few games:
For the unsc:
Magnum/Shotgun have been replaced with Sidekick/Bulldog. This is a net neutral, but is a real shame to be missing such iconic halo weapons. Also could have a huge impact on infection’s gameplay.
The smg, dmr & saw have all been somewhat fused into the commando? Except in its current iteration it doesn’t really fill any of their roles well and instead falls squarely into the same realm as the battle rifle, albeit generally less reliable. So much for no sandbox redundancy.
The Spartan Laser, railgun, missile pod, flamethrower and target locator are all seemingly missing completely with no equivalent. Obviously many of these weapons were only in certain games or campaigns, but nonetheless they are missing weapons leading to a less diverse sandbox overall.
For the covenant, obviously it’s a bit of a mess because their armament varies more in general & we’re now dealing with the banished, so I’ll try and summarise:
Plasma rifle (plasma repeater, storm rifle, spiker etc.), an iconic halo weapon, has been replaced with the plasma carbine, which like the commando doesn’t seem to fit the previous role and isn’t particularly effective except for bots for whatever reason. It’s also generally a much more bland design in general.
Concussion rifle/ brute shot has been replaced with the ravager, which is a neutral trade but my god post nerf it is just a terrible weapon. I highly doubt it’ll stay in its current state for very long (even past Dec. 8th tbh), otherwise may aswell discount this useless weapon entirely till it’s buffed. (Alt fire is cool tbf but ammo hungry)
Mangler is awesome and a great update to the mauler.
Stalker rifle presumably standing in for the carbine/needle rifle. Changes things up for sure although I do generally find it a much harder weapon to use on controller. Shame to lose the carbine though.
Shock rifle is probably the closest replacement for the beam/ focus rifles, in damage at least (infact the stalker rifle is the one with a sniper scope, so perhaps it is the other way round). Cool gun but the Hitscan emp puts vehicles in a bad place in a way that I fear may be detrimental to vehicle combat on the whole. Similar issue with emp grenades.
The disruptor is bizarre because the plasma pistol still exists - but the disruptor stole the thing that gave it it’s niche, then put it on a weapon with the slowest optimal ttk in the game. As a result both guns are niche at best with the plasma just being a choose range noob/melee combo machine (which is outclassed by the mangler anyway). Disruptor gives dot which is alright I guess, but still strictly inferior to a gun that can kill quickly. Honestly don’t know if it adds anything to the sandbox that wouldn’t have been solved with just the classic plasma pistol on its own. Its a +1 to the gun count tho.
And that leaves the Skewer standing in for the fuel rod and plasma launcher, and no real replacement for the plasma caster (for the banished anyway, the cindershot is close). Ofcourse the Skewer operates completely different to those two, so it’s a shame they don’t still exist, infact the fuel rod is functional in the games files!! May aswell have kept it in.
And finally the forerunners:
First off all the promethean weapons are gone… that’s a loss of 6 weapons right off the bat. Though there are some vague equivalents:
Boltshot at close range is now kinda replaced with the mangler/ plasma pistol. They won’t one shot but will kill fast if followed up with a melee.
Suppressor is dead. RIP
Light rifle is also dead, stalker rifle kills in the same amount of shots but isn’t as easy to use and doesn’t have the neat alt fire mechanic or small spread. RIP
The scattershot has been replaced with the heatwave. Similar ish concept taken to a greater extreme, but suffers from the same changes the bulldog does with reduced damage vs increased range & rof, meaning there is simply no one shot shotgun in the game.
Binary rifle is dead. RIP
Incineration canon is also dead. Funnily enough the ravager in the flight was almost like a mini one, but now it has been nerfed into the ground so no more.
And we do get the cindershot which is very cool.
Overall though, what we see is:
- lots of “loadout” weapons combined into one
- Heavy weapons & Snipers completely decimated
- Shotguns lowered damage but higher rof
- A fair few weapons that just aren’t very good currently
So overall, even if it isn’t the smallest it certainly feels small, is a lot slimmer than 4 & 5, and the UNSC & Forunner arsenals in particular are much smaller. There’s also the typical 343i cutting iconic weapons thing going on which at the very least adds a bias to vets that there is stuff missing.
This is NOT a beta. Beta doesn’t come out less than a month before release. The Game will change Little to none before its “true” launch date.
agree fully , there is too much hype around the game right now but the pink glasses need to be taken off. the game has serious issiues. and no i dont want to hear some fan excuses that “they gonna patch it x , its a beta etc” this game as a service concept could really harm this game in the long run because " they have 10 plus years time to do x". on the multiplayer part i returned to the mcc in less then a week intensive play , i l return for the campaign ( i swear we better have at least storywise some conclusion as i am afraid that for the sake of DLC we will have some type of cliffhanger stuff , this would disapoint me probably out of all things the most ) and then only for major patches ( and to be honest i dont think that we will have a typical “complete halo experience” until 2023 , yes its pesimistic but 343 dosent gave me much to be opitimistic about , since they took over only real positves i have is that they fixed mcc and building it into the experience it deserves to be all for at least yet basicly free ( the simple fact that they didnt drop the game at least should be apreaciated in the current industry )
