The Game That Was Promised

After playing a few matches last night and currently waiting for the update to finish, I decided to jump on the forums to read some feedback, and while some are legitimate bugs and issues with the games core gameplay and balance, the majority seems to be an outcry that what you’re playing isn’t “Halo Wars”

This will never be Halo Wars 1

What I’m trying to say is that the game you all wished for, a more fleshed out, full Halo Wars by Ensemble will never happen. The game they released was the product of love, sweat, tears, and MASSIVE gameplay changes during its production. For those of you that followed the first game in its infancy will know that the final product was nothing like what you expected.

There was a lot of outcry about the games simplistic design and limited features. The lack of freedom in base building and the overpoweredness of Leader abilities. As time went on and the fans kept at it you all discovered that there was rhyme and reason. You found that the simplicity bred new strategies and forced you to think about the battle, not about building makeshift borders around your base with supply pads. Basically, it was something new and once we all accepted that we began to admire the game. With Ensemble closing up shop just before launch we will never see what Halo Wars could have ultimately become.

This is Halo Wars 2

We’ve seen radical departure in Halo before, and tradition stands strong. What we are seeing now is a snapshot of an early build for a game once again in its infancy. A game that is taking the name of Halo Wars but doesn’t feel confined to it. It’s trying to test new waters and with this day and age we are able to publicly get our hands on what they are working on and be 343’s guide.

Don’t bash the game for what it is, the more hate that gets spread here the more distant the developers will be. It’s just human nature. The game is far from finished, declaring your hate/love for it now is just noise. Be more constructive with your voice. If they are trying to implement a new feature, don’t tell them to bin it because it’s different. Try it out and see if maybe they’re on to something, add on to it, give them IDEAS.

Finally

Give constructive feedback. Challenge yourself to see if you can make the game objectively better.

Also, forge mode, classic maps, controller config and classes pls try

well posted.

Ah constructive criticism.

Why are the people that give positive feedback and benefit the games development like you always drowned out by whiners and people that like games to be mindlessly cloned.

Finally found some sense on the forum, please never leave, we need people like you

Well put

It’s odd that the majority of posts I’ve seen from you in this forum are complaining about complainers. Take your own advice.

Non constructive posts and threads will be handled accordingly.

Well, mister monitor, if the complainers had been handled accordingly in the beginning we wouldn’t have complaining about complainers.

This is very true. If people don’t like the game they can always get Halo Wars: Remastered, this is if they sell it separately to the Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition.

Ill be getting remastered for sure.

I’d be very content if they did a little balancing and bug fixing. Tidy up the pathfinding (although that may cause unforeseen balance issues against air). Add some maps or something. I’d pay stupid money for new units/upgrades, leaders and factions though!

It’s nice to dream.

I loved HW1. I’d like to zoom out more and base build more like C&C.

I’m enjoying the beta, but hope at least we can zoom out further.

i only have one issue with what you said. The game is around 90% done. They released the beta to test the balancing and iron out the kinks in the coming months. They will not add anything or take away as any further addition will be dlc and patches.

Thanks for the replies guys.

You may be right that what we see now is what we get. Personally before the beta launched I was hoping that they mainly focused on controls and fluidity(path finding, easier selection, and 60fps). while I may not get all of that I’m hoping that they can perfect what they DO have.

New resource - keeping with the same style as other rts’s I love the new economy. This will add new points in maps to capture to gain more resources and adds a balancing act that was missing from the first game. Tech levels added a different play style and it worked well, but to prevent people from spamming units ad infinum the new resource is there to keep the pace of the game a bit more predictable. Remember, you can gain supplies for base building fast and early if your good, and having multiple bases now is absolutely vital.

Zooming out - this is actually what I always bring up in rts games. The fog of war is there to stop me from gaining a tactical advantage. It’s really just about being comfortable. When I unlocked the camera in Dota 2 for example(I know, not an rts) zooming out and seeing the map gave me a sense of my surroundings, and just being able to see it all felt cozy.

Impact - one thing I read that I agree with. The clashes between two armies need to be both readable and impactful. What I mean is that I need to know visually if a unit is getting damaged, making the bullets more visible may help with that. When a developer wants to make a visually unique and distinctive character, they look at the outline of their creation(think TF2, no matter what angle, what lighting, you can spot the scout in a lineup.) so the same should apply here. The marines, hellbringers, Spartans are a bit too small, too muddied, and they can be easily mistaken. Readability is priority numero uno to me.

Well said. I view it differently. I see it as criminal. You see I agree astoundingly with what Ensemble put into Halo Wars. It was a beautiful creation. And while you see Halo Wars 2 as a title with out boundaries I see it as stolen property. 343 takes a beautiful title and destroys it in the name of profit. They don’t care about it. They have no passion and love for what they do. It’s clear. Why take a great title and commit it to ruin? A sequel of something great should be an improvement on greatness not a fecal hurling abomination.

The HW we got from Ensemble was a butchered product that was rushed and wasn’t even going to be released. The Halo Wars we have wasn’t the HW they intended to make.

This was supposed to be Halo Wars: https://youtu.be/DceRcyVRYSE
