We know the current state of our community. We are one of the best and supportive communities found on Xbox LIVE… to an extent.
People leave and join our community daily. We get used to it. But why are they leaving do you think? Is it because of maps? The current state of the game? Or is it us? Even though our community is one of the best on Xbox, we are no where near from being cooperative with each other.
You might recall me making a forum similar to this earlier. Yes, I did… but I found it very misleading as I wrote in at about 3:00 AM.
Anyways, we need to come together as a community and act more like one. A lot of my friends have left Halo just for the way people treat each other. Now I know this is unavoidable and present in every online community. I’m just simply asking that you take the time to read the OP and tell me you thoughts, or even reflect on them and change the way you act online. I’m going to list what problems I have with the community below and explain them. I would appreciate if you did the same below.
Sexism:
If you have played Halo, you have come across this. My girl friend and I play Halo together for fun so we are constantly bombarded with messages containing sexist claims, among other inappropriate things. This makes it very uncomfortable playing Halo and based on my old thread peoples most popular things to say about this is:
“Mute them!”- Muting doesn’t work for messages.
" Block them!"- How would I know who sends these messages until they do?
" Set your settings up so it doesn’t have to." - I’m trying to make the point that my girlfriend shouldn’t have to do that.
Racism:
Everyone has encountered racism. It’s annoying and childish. For example, the British. They are ridiculed a lot online when you come across them, because us Americans think it’s funny when people sound different. It’s sad but true. The community need to grow up with racism if you ask me.
The Waypoint Community:
The Waypoint Community is a small portion of the Halo Community, but is actually a great example. Post a thread on how you think Armor Lock is ok and watch the thread explode. This is basically a good some up of the dark side of the Halo Community. There are sensible people out there like you and me, but the numbers are getting fewer and fewer sadly.
With this complaint and yours below, I hope the people who act like this wake up and fix the way they act. The internet is not a free pass to be someone you are not.
That’s about all I can think of right now, time to eat a sandwich.
> In addition to sexism, you men out there, don’t make you Spartans a female. It’s gross and very offensive. No one likes a G.I.R.L ( Guy In Real Life)
I would love for the Halo community to come together as you said. I have wanted something like that since Bungie’s Halo community. It is a hard fight though, and I’m as doubtful as I always have been about something like this coming to fruition.
> Most of the people who are going to post here after this will be idiots.
I wonder how many of those idiots who normally would post aren’t going to because you called them out…
OP, I agree completley with you, but children will act childish when there is no fear of punishment. I.e. i have 3 kids (2 boys and a newborn girl) and when there is no fear of any form of punishment or consequences, they act like little devils with no regard gor anything but themselves. Without any fear of reprisal, I fear online will just get worse and worse.
Understandable, and regrettably this seems to pervade Xbox LIVE itself.
> The Waypoint Community:
If you see overly-harassing posts or flames, then please report them so that a moderator can step in. There is nothing wrong with a heated debate if it does not cross the line into flaming or harassment, however.
> Most of the people who are going to post here after this will be idiots.
That is insulting, I am not an idiot, but what I am is a really pissed off man, how hasn’t had a lot of sleep.

^I approve this post^
Xbox LIVE is full a few types of people:
Frat boys
Little kids with squeaky voices, who swear up a storm that would make a Drill Sergeant blush
Nerds
Fanboys
Xbox Elitists
Racist & sexist scum
and every one else.
If you run into some one on Xbox LIVE who says things that are racist or sexist, block, mute, report, and avoid them, easy as that. If you run into any racist or sexist, swearing, or any personal attacks on you, report it to the mods, the mods will deal with it, they are very good at that.

1:) Yes, Snicker is an awesome mod, and a fun person to play Reach with.
2:) British people are funny, and some of my friends are British, and they are funny.

yeah, I’m kind of the same, I see it all the time in Halo, and other games, well… I see it once in a blue moon, I only -Yoink!- if it’s my friend’s body, and he was trash talking, or it’s my body, other than that, I don’t do it.

weird stealth confirms he’s an idiot and falls into the “most catagory”. Jusk kidding.
Anyway, back on topic. I don’t really see how this is an analysis of Halo 4’s community. This seems like Reach’s and it will continue on to Halo 4. The problem is the time period we live in and the various influences (whether they come from the internet, music, or even other kids at school) that young people are getting more exposed to. Unfortunately, this type of “influenced” community is unstoppable and will be in Halo 4.
I’m so sorry to hear about the hate mail you get while playing with your girlfriend (I wish I had one… ;D). I always play with my sister and we never get such messages. Sexism is wrong but our patriarchal society is one of the intrinsic factors that causes such beliefs.
Sounds great, but people aren’t going to turnover, wake-up and be a newly changed person xD. This behavior sticks with a lot of people for a while, even when you tell them about. I get many racist ridicules against me all the time. I just file complaint and move on.
Your friends should’ve stayed, we all have the bare this at some time. I’m not going to runaway from the community, because of immature people, besides I like halo way too much…
You used the British as an example for racism? i’m sorry but i find that laughable, honestly you should of picked American’s. Now this does not mean i hate american’s but honestly they are the most arrogant people i have ever met on Halo (except my american friend’s and several one’s who actually sent a good game message but then thats rare.)
But anyway i agree sexism and racism is pathetic and childish, in an ideal world it would not exist, alas…
It should be like Alton Towers. When you come into Waypoint forums there is a sign. Only IQ 100 and over can go onto the ride, while the rest are not allowed on but have their own separate forum where they can let out their pre teen rage. (343 iz dmb cuz Cod is bad n hAlO shld nt be Cod. Prks r frz girlz etc…)
Back to reality.
I haven’t experienced much sexism or anti british call outs on Xbox live because I live in party chat with 20 friends (who are all British) with whom I play nearly all my games with. Its a nice life. When i do venture out alone into the wilderness, I end of muting french people and their guests. Gr…

He said British people get picked on, they are not the pickers (wrong word choice).

This,
and on another note, I think it’s honestly worse for black people that’s just my opinion.

I know all about that. I get plenty of stereotypes thrown around at me if people know the two places I’m from (Africa, Canada) I don’t go into game chat often anymore.
