The future of the covenant

Now from the H5 campaign we know that Jul 'Mdama is dead, and the covenant’s final stronghold was overtaken by the Arbiter at Sunaion. There were still some remaining covenant that didn’t know the war was lost on Genesis in the final missions. I am struggling to see how the writers at 343 will continue with ANY sort of covenant in future games. They have no leadership left, no remaining characters we know of, and no strongholds.

Maybe im missing something, or there are characters from books that I don’t know about, but it seems to me like there won’t be any covenant in Halo 6.

I still believe there will be elites to fight with humanity and maybe they will throw in some Grunts to fight with you. But other than this, I don’t see how the covenant will play a role in Halo 6.

Is this ok with you? Is it ok for 343 to not use the original enemy and cornerstone of the original trilogy? From a gameplay standpoint, I think it will be fine IF the prometheans are coupled with a different type of enemy. There are many signs that point towards a flood return in Halo 6 so if both factions are present, gameplay should be fine.

I just find it hard to swallow that the classic “little -Yoinks!- in front, big ones in back” covenant enemies will be no more.

Let me know what you think

Well it was only Jul’s Faction of Covenant that was effectively wiped out. There are actually various Covenant splinter factions still out there. Remember that not every species sided with Arbiter’s faction on Sangheilios and the Sangheili and Jiralhanae are still going at each other at this moment in a continuation of the Great Schism at least 7+ years going by “The Return” story.

If I may make a historical prospective on this situation, I’ve got one right out of the War Between the States; I’m guessing the current condition of the Covenant remnants still sticking to the Prophets message is similar to the Army of Tennessee (C.S.A) after the battle of Franklin and Nashville. Way too many casualties and losses of valuable equipment and resources to be an effective fighting force or threat to the UNSC or the Promethans with the A.I.s. Probably just becoming isolated threat or just stop fighting and may end up surrendering to the Swords of Sangheilios, UNSC or the Created. Or just may end up choosing sides to stay alive out of pragmatism.

We still don’t know what happen to the Drones except that they stayed loyal to the remaining lesser prophets after the Great Schism.

And 343 has refused to tell us what the remaining Prophets are up to. That could work.

A religious zealot named Sali 'Nyon nicked a sizeable portion of Jul’s -Yoink- at the Absolute Record, including a vault full of treasures from Requiem. If 343 keeps the Covenant around it will be through him. I wouldn’t miss them, but 343 left themselves an out here.

They could just as easily show a story of a rising brute chieftain in the story line. Reuniting the raiding brute tribes, recomanding grunts, hiring jackals. Even a hunter “breeding” chamber would not be too difficult for a high command brute to obtain … Or steal.

They could bring back the prophets with a declaration of a “repaired covenant” and still have many die hard loyalists to aid them.

There are many ways 343 can bring back the covenant outside of Jul’s story arc.

If they get rid of the covenant it will ruin the campaign for me n my friends. We all can’t stand fighting the Prometheans and think they looks cheesy

There will likely still be Covenant. Though probably not very organized. To understand who we’ll be fighting in Halo 6, we really have to understand what Halo 6’s basic plot is, and the status of the Halo universe post-Halo 5.

Heck, for all we know, we won’t even fight Prometheans. Cortana hasn’t shown any interest in using Prometheans specifically; only the Guardians.

How are they cheesy? I felt they were rather unique; especially the concept of them being held together by hard-light, which I think is mostly an original concept created for Halo.

What’s wrong with them? How are the Covenant any better?

I actually really like the Prometheans. They’re newer so they might not be as “classic” as the Covenant.
But they’re pretty awesome in my book.

Maybe they’ll finally end Halo, 3 games too late. It wouldn’t really matter that much to me if there were little or not Covvies… So long as they were replaced with the Flood, not the Prometheans. The Prometheans are the worst faction in Halo history.

From what iv gathered from “Shadow of Intent”, it sounds to me like the remaining prophets know that the Halo rings aren’t something to be revered anymore. They know the truth behind what they thought was the great journey, and now they only care about hunting elites. So maybe that could be a story arc?

Possible Prophets or Brutes could return. I want the next game to continue the focus and inclusion of the swords oh sanhelios and the arbiter. Maybe the prophets will reunite part of the covenant and comply with Cortana and the guardians. Making a joint covenant-forunner group to fight against. And with this you would remain partnered with the swords of sanhelios. I’m thinking since blue team, osiris, palmer and halsey, and the arbiter are on sanhelios maybe they all will try to rendezvous with infinty by going to a vacant covenant world. Where coincidentally the new pro guardian covenant have small camps there. They get back to infinity and Infinity and the Arbiter’s forces work together once more.
