In terms of forerunner pistols obviously the Boltshot fulfills a role as a high aim assist sidearm at best you know it’s made fun of. Lets say you turnt up the red redicle range a bit and made it slighly doper than now. Nothin too crazy. Just keep the boltshot relevent but upgraded.
Look at the needler, supressor, boltshot. They could be looked down upon, but on your worst day they were connecting.
If I remember correctly the boltshot is a five shot kill regardless of aiming for a headshot…so basically the only thing keeping it balanced is the shorter RRR and the bullet velocity.
The projectile animation is a bit cartoonish, maybe make it more projectile like. Lower the aim assist just a bit in exchange for longer range. Making it closer to a true pistol with a bit of aim assist. Like a carbine pistol type performance.
I think it’s good as it is. The Boltshot isn’t more powerful than rifles like the Light Rifle, but it’s still potent enough to let you win a battle if you get a jump on your opponent.

We no longer have loadouts which is why I don’t see the harm

Currently we don’t. We don’t have any way of knowing if Infinite will see them return or not, either.

It’s fine as it is. You’d have to change up maps to mix up where they are currently placed if you made it more of a power weapon again.
I’d say it’s balanced. It’s the kinda gun that’s situational. The kinda gun you don’t go out of your way to pick-up like light rifle or green gun, but you still pick up if you happen to walk over it because why not. It definitely has its uses. I love the balance in Halo 5 because everything is balanced around the magnum in ways so that the non-power weapon pickups aren’t designed to replace the starter weapon, but instead offer you alternate strategies.
Outplaying a boltshot isn’t really hard tbh. It’s a decent weapon early game in Warzone, but past REQ 4, the rifles are already above it.
As for the way the gun plays, its tracking shots are much more preferable to that of the H4 boltshot shotgun.

After getting a few needler kills and almost capping middle point with a needler in warzone I don’t look down upon it as much but boltshot just isn’t very fun to use and is easily outclassed by magnum. However what would make it better is if reqs allowed you to also have the covenant/Promethean versions of UNSC standard weapons as standard weapons in warzone so players who would have used that weapon as their standard loadout in halo 4 can use it again in warzone.
